Superlit Pipes & Coupling

The document summarizes the key properties and benefits of SUPERLIT GRP pipes, fittings, and couplings. The pipe consists of multiple layers, including an internal resin-rich liner for corrosion resistance. Pipes allow a maximum flow rate of 4m/s and have standardized hydraulic coefficients. Fittings include bends, reducers, flanges, and tees. Couplings have full-faced rubber seals for tight joints and are pre-mounted to pipes for easy installation. Overall, the GRP materials have benefits like long service life, corrosion resistance, lightweight, and cost savings versus other pipe materials.

SUPERLIT GRP Pipes, Fittings and Couplings

SUPERLIT GRP Pipe

Pipe Layer Construction

Internal Layer & External Layer : The internal layer have a minimum thickness of 0,2
mm. This layer consists of %90 resin, %10 surface tissue. The raw material contents
and thicknesses are fixed for all DN, PN, SN class of SUPERLIT GRP FW pipes.

Liner Layer : The liner layer is a thermosetting resin rich layer forming the interior
layer of the pipe to give high corrosion resistance. The thickness of this layer have a
thickness of 0,8 mm. This layer consists of %60 resin, %40 glass fiber. The raw
material contents and thicknesses are fixed for all DN, PN, SN class of SUPERLIT
GRP FW pipes.

Structural layers & Core Layer : The composition of structural layers are also fixed
for all DN, PN, SN class of SUPERLIT GRP FW pipes. Structural layers consist of
glass fiber and resin, core layer consists of resin, glass fiber and silica sand. The layer
thicknesses change depending on DN, PN, SN class of SUPERLIT GRP FW pipes in
order to achieve satisfy required strength as per international standards EN 1796, EN
14364, ISO 10639 & ISO 10467.

1
Flow Rate
Recommended flow rate for the standard GRP pipe is 4 m/s maximum. Pipes
allowing a higher flow rate can be manufactured by special design.

Flow Coefficient
Ratings to be used in hydraulic calculations for SUPERLIT GRP pipes:
- Hazen–William flow coefficient: C = 150
- Manning coefficient: n = 0,009
- Colebrook–White coefficient;
k = 0.029 mm for the pipes manufactured by the continuous filament winding
method
k = 0.012 mm for the pipes manufactured by the centrifugal casting method

UV Resistance
Performance of GRP pipes is not negatively affected by UV rays. Observing color
changes on the surface, which do not affect the strength, is normal.

Poisson Ratio
Poisson ratio that can be used in standard engineering calculations for GRP pipes is
between 0.22 - 0.29.

Temperature
Service temperature of standard GRP pipes is between -40˚C and +35˚C. Special
pipes can be designed for service temperatures up to 50˚C.

Thermal Coefficient
Thermal expansion and contraction coefficient of SUPERLIT GRP pipes in axial
direction:

Benefits:
- Long Service Life:
Pipes are designed in compliance with the international standards to serve a
minimum of 50 years. Operating and maintenance costs are negligibly small.

- Perfect and smooth inner surface:

The smooth inner surface of SUPERLIT GRP pipes reduces hydraulic losses. Thanks
to its smooth inner surface, friction loss is at a minimum, and it keeps this
characteristic throughout its entire service life.

- Safe connections:
SUPERLIT GRP pipe joints are designed with the flexible connection method, and the
sealing is provided by couplings having full-face integrated elastomeric seal.

- Lightweight:
It has approximately 1/4 the weight of steel pipes, approximately
1/5 of ductile pipes, and approximately 1/10
of concrete pipes.

- GRP pipes with varying diameters can be nested together and thus, more pipes can
be transported using less vehicles. This means the cost of transportation can be
lowered.

- Installation is fast and easy. Requires no special equipment for handling and
mounting. Being lightweight means easy installation, even for longer pipe lengths.

- Resistance against corrosion and chemicals:

It does not corrode since it is not manufactured with metallic materials. As a
standard, it is designed to serve in a wide pH range.

- It has insulation properties and is not influenced by electric current.

- It does not require cathodic protection.

- It does not require inner and outer coating.

- Surge pressure absorption:

Additional pressure increases occurring due to surges are far less when compared
with metal pipes. They are designed to absorb 40% of the surge pressure, without
increasing the pressure class.

SUPERLIT Coupling (Full Faced Coupling)

Each length of SUPERLİT GRP Pipe shall be supplied with one SUPERLİT GRP
Coupling which has internal full faced rubber seal. This type of jointing, provides
more joint tightness and no risk for leakage of water. Every GRP pipe is connected
with a GRP full-face coupling.

Manufacturing Method

Full-Faced GRP Couplings are produced by filament winding production method to

meet the same quality standards as for the pipes, Full-Faced Couplings are fitted
with a high quality EPDM gasket (membrane).

The computerized machine for manufacturing the couplings operates as follows:

First it places a prefabricated EPDM membrane on the steel mandrel and then winds
glass roving impregnated with polyester resin around it. At the same time, it is
winding special roving fabric onto the coupling to reinforce the axial strength. After
the laminate is in place, the resin starts to polymerize once exposed to light with
additional heater unit.

Rubber seals used in couplings of SUPERLİT GRP Pipes shall be manufactured

according to the requirement of the supplied pipes and to the related standard which
is EN 681-1. They should be from EPDM and have shore hardness of (60 +/-5).

Advantages

SUPERLİT GRP Couplings shall be delivered as mounted at the end of the GRP Pipes
providing that the following advantages: There is no need for welding and/or
joining of the couplings to the pipes at site, Easy Handling & Installation, Time
saving and finishing the installation quickly as the couplings have already mounted
to the pipes.

• No silica sand is used in design and the structure is full glass.

• Zero infiltration and exfiltration
• Lower treatment costs at treatment plant
• No pollution of groundwater
• No root intrusion
• Different couplings available for direct burial, slip-lining, pipe-jacking, etc.
• Full face rubber EPDM rubber memrane
• Fast installations
• Couplings mounted at one end of the pipe at manufacturing plant
• Allows angular deflection up to 3° depending on the pipe diameter without
need for additional fittings.

6
Deflections

Joints shall have allowable angular deflection values as per the following table:

Nominal Angular Deflection Nominal Pipe Diameter (DN-mm)

(degree)
3° DN < 500
2° 500 < DN ≤ 900 mm
1° 1000 < DN ≤ 1600 mm
