DESIGN CALCULATION REPORT
Rev. Date : 20 March, 2020
Page : 3 of 7
1. Introduction
The aim of the present document is to explain and record the design calculations carried
out for a “Camera supporting structure”
This structure is used for supporting camera’s height of structure is 12m. A box (400x
500 size) is mounted at level of 4.5m. Weight of single camera is 2kg.
2. Design Philosophy
The analysis has been done using the structural analysis software STAAD Pro. A 3D
model of the structure has been prepared using the beam elements and analysis has
been carried out for different types of loads and their combinations which are explained
in the later part of this report.
Design of steel elements like columns & beam have been carried out by the software
STAAD Pro SS6 as according to IS 800:2007 (Limit State Design) which has been
explained in detail in the later part of this report.
3. Design Loads
In general, the dead load includes the self-weight of structure, weight of roof sheeting,
Insulation pipes etc.
A. The self-weight (10% extra for nodes & connections) of the steel members of the
structure is considered in the Dead load case.
B. Weight of one camera considered is 2 kg and applied as nodal load in staad.
The seismic loads have been calculated, according to IS-1893 (Part -1), following the next
considerations:
The seismic response of the structure has been calculated using the STAAD Pro
software, considering as mass source the dead loads of the structure, sheeting etc.
The nomenclature and description of the specific load patterns used in the calculation m
odel is defined in STAAD Pro.
The wind loads have been calculated based on the parameters established for the stand
ard site conditions. For wind loads design code IS-875 (Part – 3) has been followed. The
following parameters have been considered for wind load calculation:
Basic Design Wind Speed of 47 m/s has been considered as per IS875: Part3.
Terrain Category: 1
Probability factor K1=1
Terrain factor K2=1.0
Topographical factor K3=1.0
Wind directionality factor Kd=1
Area Averaging Factor Ka=1
From the above parameters the design wind speed comes out to be 47 m/s and wind pr
essure comes out to be 1.325 KN/m2. Using area averaging factor Ka=1 and wind directi
onality factor Kd=1 design wind pressure becomes 1.325 KN/m^2. The rest of
parameters, such as the roughness factor, external / internal pressure, net pressure, dra
g and force coefficients, have been taken from the code and applied subsequently as
Uniformly Distributed Load.
The pressure coefficients has been worked out from Table 31 of IS 875 part 3 for single f
rame sections and these are 0.7 for column member (DVs>6) & 1.2 for cantilever part (D
Vd<6) . Slope. The subsequent loads have been applied in model.

A load case defines how loads are to be applied to the structure, and how the structural
response is to be calculated. The nomenclature and description of the specific load cases
used in the calculation model is as follows:
The program design in STAAD. Pro is based on a set of loading combination. The load co
mbinations are made according to IS 800:2007and IS875: Part 5 for Limit State design c
onditions. In total there are 29 load combinations formed for limit state condition each i
n accordance with table below:

4. Structural Model
The structure has been modeled in 3-dimensions for structural analysis, in which
mathematical model for the real structure is modeled. The same is presented below.
5. Design Calculations
Please refer Annexure –A for Staad Input & Output File for “Camera
supporting structure”
Please refer Annexure –B for Foundation design for “Camera supporting
structure”
The 3D models have been checked for stress and are well within the allowable limits.
For Strength check refers annexure-A. Refer Annexure – B For Foundation design check.
