VMware Licensing FAQ

TARGET AUDIENCE OF THIS DOCUMENT

This FAQ is intended primarily for Dell EMC and VMware Direct Sales, Channel Partners, and Dell EMC Deal
Support who are quoting and ordering VxRail™ Appliances using MyQuotes.

OVERVIEW
The Dell EMC VxRail Appliance, the exclusive hyper-converged infrastructure appliance from Dell EMC and VMware, is the easiest and
fastest way to stand up a fully virtualized Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) environment. It provides a simple, cost-effective,
hyper-converged solution that delivers compute, network, storage, virtualization, and management for a wide variety of applications
and workloads.

Built on the foundation of VMware Hyper-Converged Infrastructure software and managed through the familiar vCenter interface, the
VxRail Appliance provides existing VMware customers an experience they are already familiar with. Seamless integration with
existing VMware tools, such as vRealize Operations, lets customers leverage and extend their existing IT tools and processes.
Additionally, the VxRail Appliance is discoverable and visible in VCE Vision™ Intelligent Operations for a comprehensive IT core-to-
edge management ecosystem.

VxRail Appliance is an integrated hardware and software solution. The Appliance is pre-installed with vSphere, but it does not include
the vSphere license. VxRail is capable of running different editions of vSphere (also known as Bring-Your-Own vSphere License).

GENERAL VMWARE LICENSING QUESTIONS
Q: What VMware software is bundled with VxRail?

A: Every VxRail comes bundled with VMware vSAN 6.2 (ENT), vCenter Server U2 (STD) and vRealize Log Insight 3.3.1 (vCenter Server STD). See
table below for bundled and required VMware software for VxRail.

Q: Is vSphere licensed with VxRail?

A: No. vSphere is no longer bundled with VxRail. However, VxRail requires vSphere and is vSphere enabled (vSphere license key must be entered).

Q: What is the difference between VxRail 3.0 and later VxRail releases from VMware software licensing standpoint?

A: The main difference between VxRail 3.0 and later VxRail releases from VMware licensing standpoint is that with the later VxRail releases, vSphere
licenses are not sold with VxRail. vSphere licenses must either be obtained separately, when a VxRail is purchased, or existing licenses can be
leveraged using the VMware Loyalty Program (see VLP section).

A: Why are vSphere licenses no longer sold with VxRail?

A: vSphere licenses are no longer sold with VxRail to provide customers the flexibility to obtain vSphere licenses in a similar manner to how they
obtain most other VMware software.

Q: Is the VMware Loyalty Program (VLP) still applicable to VxRail

A: No. As customer must now bring their own vSphere licenses to activate VxRail, VLP is no longer applicable for VxRail.

Q: How can I purchase vSphere licenses for VxRail?

A: You can purchase vSphere licenses from VMware, Dell EMC or from any authorized VMware partner.

Q: Can vSphere licensed for VxRail purchased from Dell EMC be transferred?

A: No. VMware vSphere licenses purchased from Dell EMC for VxRail are term-based. This means that these license cannot be transferred to
another VxRail or to another system and that they expire when the Dell EMC support for the VxRail appliance ends. This provision has two
exceptions: (1) when VxRail hardware is replaced under Dell EMC warranty, and (2) when VxRail hardware is refreshed by a newer model of
VxRail.

Q: Is there a difference between vSphere licensed from Dell EMC and other vSphere licenses for VxRail?

A: Yes. vSphere licenses for VxRail obtained from existing ELAs or purchased from VMware or other resellers are generally perpetual, and can be
transferred to other VxRail appliances and to other authorized equipment. Please verify the licensing terms that apply to you.

Q: What editions of vSphere are supported with VxRail?

A: VxRail supports the following editions of vSphere (version 6.0 U2): vSphere ENT +, vSphere ENT1, vSphere STD, and vSphere ROBO (STD and
ADV). In addition, VxRail supports the vSphere included with Operations Manager (VSOM), Horizon STD, ADV and ENT, and vCloud Suite.

Q:

What are the differences between VxRail with vSphere STD and VxRail with vSphere ENT +?

A: The main differences between VxRail with vSphere ENT+ and VxRail with vSphere STD are derived from load-balancing and related capabilities
offered by Distributed Resources Scheduler (DRS). (See https://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/compare for a detailed
comparison between vSphere editions). VxRail with vSphere Enterprise Plus is recommended for best VxRail experience. The table below
shows some of the main differences between VxRail with vSphere ENT + vs. VxRail with vSphere STD.

Q: Can I upgrade VxRail with vSphere STD capabilities to VxRail with ENT+ capabilities?

A: Yes. VxRail capabilities can be upgraded to vSphere ENT+ level by enabling vSphere ENT+ on VxRail.

vSphere ENT is no longer offered by VMware. However, vSphere ENT licenses under supported ELAs can still be applied to VxRail
using the VLP process.

Q: What vSphere editions and VMware packages enable VxRail with vSphere ENT+ capabilities?

A: vSphere editions and packages that enable VxRail with vSphere ENT+ capabilities are vSphere ENT+, VSOM, Horizon and vCloud Suite.

Q: What vSphere editions and VMware packages enable VxRail with vSphere STD capabilities?

A: vSphere editions that enable VxRail with vSphere STD capabilities are vSphere STD, vSphere ROBO STD, and vSphere ROBO ADV 2. VMware
offers no packages with vSphere STD. The vSphere Essential and Essential Plus editions are not supported by VxRail. The table below offers a
summary of the VMware editions and packages supporting STD and ENT+ functionality. See the table blew for a visual representation.

Q: What VMware support level is required for vSphere licenses for VxRail?

A: VxRail customers must purchase VMware Production Level support for vSphere licenses for VxRail Appliances.

Q: What are the differences in licensing models between vSphere ENT+, STD, vSphere Desktop, and vSphere ROBO?

A: Both vSphere ENT + and STD are licensed by physical CPUs. By contrast, vSphere ROBO is licensed by the number of VMs. vSphere Desktop is
licensed by the number of individual or concurrent users. See the table below for more details about the differences between the vSphere editions
and packages.

Q: What version of vCenter is required to access VxRail Appliances from an external vCenter?

A: VMware vCenter Server 6.0 U2 and VxRail software is also required.

Q: Can a customer transfer VMware software bundled with VxRail (e.g., vSAN, vCenter and Log Insight) to another servers?

A: No. Software bundled with VxRail is node-locked, and the bundled software is non-transferrable.

Q: Can a customer leverage existing licenses and ELAs for VSOM, vCloud Suite, or Horizon packages with VxRail?

A: Yes. VMware VSOM, vCloud Suite, and Horizon packages with existing licenses and ELAs can be leveraged with VxRail leveraging VLP. See the
VLP section for details.

Q: Can the bundled VxRail VMware Software be transferred to another system (VxRail or otherwise)?

A: No. Bundled VxRail VMware Software is term-based. Therefore, these licenses are valid for the term of the VxRail appliance and cannot be
transferred to another VxRail appliance or to another system, with the exception of hardware replacement under Dell EMC warranty due to failure.
In the above case, the software instances must be removed from the old HW and the serial number of the old VxRail system must be replaced with
the serial number of the new VxRail system in any data records associated with the transferred VMware software.

Q: Can a customer use vSphere licenses purchased as part of an Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) for VxRail?

A: Yes, as long as the customer has the number of physical CPU vSphere licenses available from one or multiple vSphere licenses and is under
current support contract with VMware or Dell EMC.

Q: How does a customer activate vSphere licenses for VxRail?

A: Please consult the Dell EMC VxRail Ordering and Licensing Guide for vSphere license activation instructions for VxRail.

Q: Can a customer mix different editions of vSphere (e.g., Enterprise + and Standard) in the same VxRail Appliance?

A: No. Each appliance must have the same edition of vSphere.

Q: Can a customer mix appliances with different editions of vSphere (e.g., Enterprise + and Standard) in the
same VxRail cluster?

A: No. Features that are enabled at the cluster level fall back to the least common denominator. Mixing different editions of vSphere in a cluster is not
a best practice, although different edition of vSphere license can be assigned to a specific ESXi host.

Q: What happens if a customer does not maintain support contracts for vSphere licenses?

A: Customer will not be compliant with the VxRail licensing terms and conditions and will not be ineligible for VxRail support.

Q: Who should a customer call for VxRail support?

A: Customer must call Dell EMC for support of all VxRail components (VxRail Manager, vSphere, VMware vSAN™, VMware vCenter Server™,
VMware vRealize® Log Insight™, and hardware).

Q: What happens if a customer calls VMware for VxRail support with vSphere license
used in a VxRail?

A: VMware will redirect the support call to Dell EMC.

Q: How does a customer renew vSphere licenses?

A: The process to renew support is simple:

o VxRail support is renewed directly with Dell EMC.

o vSphere support is renewed directly with Dell EMC or the VMware Partner who sold the VMware-provided support
agreement.

Please note that it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that support is current for both vSphere licenses and the VxRail Appliance.

Q: What happens to the VxRail at the end of the Support term (1-5 years)?

A: At the end of the support term

o vSphere (perpetual) licenses can be transferred to other VxRail systems or to different solution.

o All the other software licenses purchased as part of the VxRail (e.g., VxRail Manager, VMware vSAN, vCenter Server,
vRealize Log Insight) are non-transferrable.

Q: Does VxRail support NSX?

A: Yes. The vSAN software that is bundled with VxRail include vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS) and can support NSX.

VMWARE HORIZON QUESTIONS

Q: What are the licensing options for Horizon software?

A: In contrast to many other VMware software products that are licensed by CPU, Horizon software is licensed per Named or Concurrent user. Each
Named user license must be assigned to specific user, while a Concurrent user license can be shared across different users but not
simultaneously. Concurrent user licenses are a good fit for virtual environments with a high number of users who share machines throughout the
day, such as students and shift workers.

Q: What are the different editions of VMware Horizon software?

A: There are three editions of Horizon—Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise. Please review the Horizon FAQ
(https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/horizon/vmware-horizon-7-fa pdf) to understand the differences between these versions.

Q: How is Horizon licensed on VxRail?

A: There are two use cases for Horizon on VxRail: VDI dedicated workloads or mixed workloads (VDI and data center workloads).

Q: How do I license Horizon for VxRail running dedicated VDI workloads?

A: For dedicated VDI workloads, you need to purchase the desired version of Horizon software (Standard, Advanced, or Enterprise) for your target
number of users.

Q: How do I license Horizon for VxRail in mixed workloads?

A: To run VDI in a mixed workloads environment you must license vSphere ENT+ (licensed per processor) and the version of Horizon required for
your workloads (Standard, Advanced, or Enterprise).

Q: As Horizon software includes vSAN, Log Insight, and vCenter, will I be overcharged?

A: Horizon “Add-on” licensing options for VxRail exclude vSphere, vSAN, vCenter, and Log-Insight, and address the overlap issue. In addition,
vSphere Desktop or vSphere Ent+ can be purchased a la carte for mixed VDI workloads.
