BMIT1703 IT Fundamentals and Applications

ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS
SEMESTER 1, 2020/2021

Objective
This coursework aims to provide students an opportunity to explore business software and enhance
their understanding of the software features in terms of word processing, spreadsheet editing and
digital presentation editor.

Grouping
This is a group-based assignment. Each group with a minimum of FOUR (4) members and maximum
of FIVE (5) members. Every student in the group is responsible for finding, analyzing and preparing the
assignment report. All students should contribute evenly to the tasks assigned.

Plagiarism
All work is to be the result of the student's own individual and group effort. Assignment contents are
not allowed to be copied from the Internet or from other students. A student who plagiarizes will
receive zero point credit on the assignment.

It is not acceptable for students to submit identical answers, by simply copying the work done by
another student or group. Assignment that is copied from another student or group will be marked as
failed. Refer to the attachment of the Plagiarism Statement and Declaration Form. Read and
understand the plagiarism statements and then write your name, your student ID, and signature for
declaration.

Late Policy
The assignment should be submitted on the due date stated below unless there are legitimate reasons
for the student’s inability to complete the assignment by due date. As a general rule, no extension of
time will be granted. Assignment received after the due date without legitimate reason will be
penalized.

i) Late Submission within 1-3 days: Total marks to be deducted are 10 marks.
ii) Late Submission within 4-7 days: Total marks to be deducted are 20 marks.
iii) Late Submission after 7 days: Coursework will be rejected and ZERO marks shall be awarded.
Submission date: Week 10:
(Softcopy should be uploaded and hardcopy should be submitted before 12 noon.)

Assignment Submission Mode: Hardcopy and Softcopy
This assignment contributes 40% of the overall course assessment. The marks allocations are divided
into:
Assignment Submission Report Format =10 marks

Section A: Spreadsheet software = 50 marks


Section B: Presentation software = 35 marks
Section C: Individual Presentation = 5 marks

Total = 100 marks (to be converted into 40%)

Section A: Excel Workbook [50 marks]


Transaction and Analysis Worksheets
Correctness of the contents with appropriate fields and records. Appropriate usage of features
of the application such as formulas, functions such as IF statements, LOOKUP functions, SUM, (30 marks)
MIN, MAX, etc., conditional formats and other extra features. Design of the worksheet with
consistency in term of background and foreground (fonts, images, titles, etc).

Pivot table and Pivot Chart


A pivot table for an analysis based on the results.
Pivot table must be meaningful for the management to make decision. (10 marks)
Correctness of the pivot table and pivot chart with useful analysis and with proper titles or labels.

Charts
TWO (2) different types of Chart to compare different kinds of data.
Correctness and suitability of the charts analysis with proper titles and labels. (10 marks)
Appropriate and attractive chart elements and formatting that enhance the appearance.

Section B: Power Point Presentation [35 marks]


Content and Design of the Power Point Slide
Display appropriate content such as data, charts, images, that are relevant and useful to the
given task. Consistency and attractiveness in each slide in term of background and foreground (20 marks)
(fonts, tables, titles, etc). Effective visual display of content.

Knowledge and skill


Appropriate usage of features of the application such as animations, transitions, audio/video (15 marks)
files, hyperlinks and other extra features.

Section C: Individual Presentation Performance [5 marks]


Present with body language, voice tone and clarity.

Section A: Creating a workbook containing FIVE (5) Worksheets [50 marks]

Question 1: Ticket Sales for Theme Park

School holiday is coming and the theme park in your country will be organizing events to attract more
people to the park. As the event manager, you need to keep track of all the customers and their ticket
purchases and prepare different types of analysis on ticket sales.

You are required to present the analysis to the management and suggestions on how to attract more
customers in the future.

Question 2: Registration for Charity Walk

One of the biggest annual events of your company is the charity walkathon where the organizer raises
funds for non-profit organizations or societies. As the organizing committee of your company, you
need to keep track of all the participants and their registrations and prepare different types analysis
on the registrations.

You are required to present the analysis to the management and suggestions on how to attract more
participants in the future.

Question 3: Sales for New product

The company that you are currently working in is launching a range of new products. As a member of
the marketing team, you are required to keep track of all the products sales and prepare different
types of analysis on the sales.

You and your team are also required to present the analysis to the management and suggestions on
how to attract more customers and improve the sales in the future.

Requirements for Section A

• Create worksheets to
o Store relevant information and records with proper fields and labels.
o Include reliable and consistent transaction and analysis.
o Example of analysis:
o Subtotal and Total Sales calculation
o Total sales by each product
o Total sales by each date
o Product that has the highest and lowest sales and etc.
• Create a pivot table and pivot table for an analysis based on the summary.
• Create TWO (2) different types of Charts to compare different kinds of data with suitable title
and labels.

Section B: Creating slides for presentation [35 marks]

Once you have completed Section A, you and your group members need to design and prepare
relevant and attractive power point slides for your presentation which include the analysis of the
results, the cause of the results, reasons on decision making, as well as a suggestion of improvement.

Requirements for Section B

You are required to use Microsoft PowerPoint to prepare the presentation slides. In your slides:

• It must have of minimum 10 slides and maximum 15 slides.


• Contains appropriate features of the application such as animations, transitions, audio files,
hyperlinks and other extra features.
• Consists only essential information of content such as text, pictures, table, and/or charts.
• Embedded video clip to enhance your power point presentation.
• Structure the presentation slides:
o A beginning slide
o An introduction/overview slide.
o Contents slides
o A conclusion slide
o An ending slide

Instructions for submitting softcopy assignment

Section A: Save the file as “Your class-G1-Question Number-Section A” (E.g. 1DAC1-G1-Q1-Section A)

Section B: Save the file as “Your Class-G1-Question Number -Section B” (E.g. 1DAC1-G1-Q1-Section B)

Create a folder and rename it as “Your Class Group Number” (E.g. 1DAC1G1) and transfer the Submission
form, Assessment form, Section A, and B into the folder and upload to Google Classroom.

Submission Details and Report Sequence

Instructions for submitting hardcopy assignment

• Assignment report is to be properly bound (stapling at the top, middle and bottom of left gutter
position) with Assignment Submission Form as the cover page. Be eco-friendly, transparent sheet
is NOT required as part of the report.
• Use A4 sized paper with printing on one side only except for thicker papers.

Organize your report in the following sequence:

1. Assignment Submission form (as a cover page) and Plagiarism statement form
2. Assessment Form
3. Plagiarism Statement
4. Plagiarism Statement Form
5. Table of Contents
6. Section A: Microsoft Excel worksheet. Note: Print 1 worksheet in one page only
7. Section B: Microsoft PowerPoint slides. Note: Print 6 slides in one page only.

(Note: Section A and B - print in landscape orientation and color)

8. Softcopy of the assignment report to be uploaded to Google Classroom. Only Assignment Group
Leaders are required to upload the softcopy into Google Classroom.
