2.0 SCOPE, PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE

The scope of this method statement covers the installation of steel door frames and shutters.
The purpose of the documentation emanating from this statement is to ensure that quality
control objectives are maintained and accurate records are established for all related activities.
The objective is to ensure that the construction plan is executed, controlled and documented in
compliance with the contract drawings and specifications.

4.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS

Specific safety measures have to be follow ed as applicable. All safety measures are covered
separately in the project safety plan.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 Project Manager should ensure:

• The steel door frame and shutter works activities are carried out according to
specifications and drawings.
• Work progress is carried out according to the planned program and all the equipment
required to execute the works are available as per the project planning and are in good
condition.
• Coordination with the Consultant, Site Engineer, Safety Engineer and Subcontractors for
the safe and proper execution of the work.
• Specific attention is paid to all safety measures and quality control in coordination with
Safety Engineer and QC Engineer and in line with HSE plan and Quality plan.

5.2 Project Engineer should ensure:


• The steel door frame and shutter works activities are carried out according to the
specifications and drawings.
• Provision of all necessary information and distribution of responsibilities to his
construction team.
• The work progress is monitored in accordance with the required program and reports
the same to the Project Manager

• Coordination with the Safety Engineer to ensure that the works are carried out in a safe
working atmosphere.
• Coordination with the QC Engineer for test s to be carried out and initiate for the
inspection for the finished works.
• The implementation of any request that might be raised by the Consultant.
• Efficient daily progress has been obtained from all the equipment and manpower
engaged in the work and check the same against the daily report received from the
Foremen.
• The pass age of all the revised information to the Foreme n and ensure that it’s being
carried out properly.
• Coordination with the surveyor and plan the survey works in advance as per the work
sequence.

5.3 QA Engineer should ensure:

• The carrying out of the works as per the specifications and the related quality procedures.
• Inspection of the completed works and requesting for the Consultant’s approval.
• Maintena nce of complete inspe ction and test records for any further reference.

5.4 Safety Engineer should ensure:

• The implementation of all safety measures in accordance with the HSE plan and that the
whole work force is aware of its proper implementation.
• The implementation of safety measures is adequate to maintain a safe working
environment on the site.
• Inspection of all the site activities and training personnel in accident prevention and its
proper reporting to the Project Manager and the Consultant.
• The site is maintained in a clean and tidy manner.

5.5 Forman should ensure:

• The carrying-out the work and the proper distribution of all the available resources in
coordination with the Site Engineering on a daily basis.
• Daily reports of the works are achieved and coordinated for the future planning with the
site Engineer.
• Incorporate all the QC and Safety requirements as requested by the concerned Engineer.
• Meeting with any type of unforeseen incident or requirement and reporting the same to
the Site Engineer immediately.

6.0 PROCEDURE / METHOD TO BE EMPLOYED:

6.1 Steel Door and Frame


• The Steel door and frame shall be approved by the Consultant.
• Frame and doors shall be stored under cover on the building site on wooden sills.
• Approved drawings/type of door shall be checked before starting any works.
• Location/opening shall be checked prior to the installation.
• Plumb and level shall be checked for the jambs and heads of the frames.
• Frame alignment shall be checked.

6.2 Fixing of Frame


• Structural opening will be introduced in the block or concrete wall to suit frame
size.
• The frame shall be temporarily braced to maintain squareness.
• The approved clamps shall be built into the frame to form a connection between
the frame, the wall and the grout.
• Two spreaders shall be provided to maintain the door -opening dimension.
• Brass screws shall be used for frame fixing.
• The steel frame shall be fixed in the opening after the completion of the block
work.
• Grouting to the sides of the frame shall be done for keeping the frame in
location and in plumb.
• Edge forms shall be provided on both sides of the walls to prevent the grout from
leaking.
• The steel frame shall be delivered galvanized and the final coats shall be painted
at site to the approved color and by spray application.
• All frames shall be covered properly to protect them from damage.
• Approved threshold shall be fixed.

6.3 Fixing of Door Shutter


• Doors shall be stored under cover in the building.
• Approved drawings for the type of doors shall be checked before installation
starts.
• Doors shall be checked for their marking dimension and squareness prior to
fixing.
• Doors are supplied self -etch primed from the manufacturer, compatible to the
final paint system.
• After the approval of the final paint system, it shall be applied as per
manufacturer's recommendations.
• In case of any further touch-ups, it shall be done as per the manufacturer’s
recommendations.

• Door shall be hung on the doorframes using the specified hinges. Plumb and level
shall be checked.
• All steel doors shall be provided with a complete set of ironmongery as indicated
on the ironmongery schedule.
• All screws used for the doors shall be counter sunk and dressed flush after
installation and painted.
• The doors shall be covered properly after installation to protect them from
damage.

6.4 Ironmongery
• Approved Ironmongery, standard hinges, locks and handles shall be delivered
and fixed along with the door shutter and frame.
• Master key cylinder shall be delivere d for the appropriate doors.
• Approved panic bars shall be used for the appropriate doors.
• Approved door closers & stoppers shall be fixed to the appropriate doors.

7.0 MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS:

• Charge hands
• Masons
• Carpenters
• Unskilled labors

8.0 MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Approved steel door frame and shutter


• Brass Screws
• Sand
• Cement
• Approved quality paint
• Approved Threshold
• Approved Ironmongery

9.0 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT:

• Mason’s tools
• Light projectors
• Stand-by generator

10.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY PROVISIONS

• All the safe practices will be adopted during the steel door frame and shutter works.
• Special work permits, wherever required, shall be obtained before commencing work.
• All necessary personal protective equipment must be used.
• Full body harness shall be provided for the labors on working platforms above 2m in
height.
• Proper access for the labor and equipment sha ll be provided for the works.
• All machinery shall be checked for maintenance records.
• The site shall be cleaned from all the debris, steel waste, nails etc

11.0 Q.C. APPROVAL AND OTHER DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS

• All the quality control documentation related to the steel door frame and shutter works
should be approved before commencing the work. And as follows:
Ø QCP for the steel door frame and shutter works
Ø ITP for the steel door frame and shutter works
Ø Project Quality Plan
Ø Project HSE plan
Ø Check list sheets for the steel door frame and shutter works
