Introduction/ Overview:
Since birth we have experienced science. These experiences began our search
to understand, to ask questions and look for evidence to support answers.
In this lesson, you will learn and discover more about science and its relation
to technology, the effects of science and technology to society, the comforts
brought about by modern appliances as well as the disadvantages they
create.

Pre-Assessment:
The following are questioned to be answered:
a. What is Science? Has it something to do with superstition or
something to do with what is true? Explain.
b. How it is related to technology?

Objectives:

 Define the Nature of Science

 Relate science to daily activities.
 Enumerate applications of science in the form of technology

Lecture Notes/ Lesson:

To start our day’s lesson, I would like you to look at the illustration of
students who spent their wonderful time on the beach with their senses
surrounded by the beauty of nature. They see the leaves of coconut palm
trees shining in the late afternoon sun. They hear the waves gently lapping
on the shore. They feel a cool breeze caressing their cheeks and they listen to
the birds singing their songs. As the students enjoy their experience, may
questions come to their minds. Why do you think they are asking questions?
Please give a brief answer.
Let’s have a short activity
Activity 1:
 List down questions relating to Science that you have been asking
yourself all these years. These questions will be answered as we go along
in various topics.
Let us Also connect our study of science with our local folklore, which
means that we will connect that with traditional stories, customs and
habits of a particular community or nation.

Activity 2:
 I will ask you to give examples of local superstitious beliefs. How do you
feel about them? Are they true or not?
 Please be aware of the danger of believing in stories that will block
your emotional growth

I will cite some common examples:

1. Fear of evil spirits in the forest that could prevent you from exploring
your environment.

2. The belief the you remember everything you read if you sleep with a
book under your pillow. This might encourage you not to study
diligently but believe in “magic” as a way of getting things done.
Activity 3:
On your activity sheets, fill up the chart as directed.

Beliefs that give you Positive Beliefs that give you negative
reinforcement emotions

Beliefs to choose from:

Legends of Creation Stories of Aswang Kapre
