Auto-Tune 7.1.7 TDM/RTAS OS X Notes: Installation
Auto-Tune 7.1.7 TDM/RTAS OS X Notes: Installation
7 TDM/RTAS OS X Notes
Thank you for purchasing or evaluating Auto-Tune 7 TDM/RTAS for Mac OS X. While
the Owner's Manual contains all the platform-independent information you'll need to get
the full benefit of Auto-Tune 7 (and we really encourage you to read it), this file includes
specific issues unique to the TDM OS X version.
INSTALLATION
The Auto-Tune 7 TDM/RTAS installer will automatically install the plug-in in the correct
location, and no reboot of the computer will be necessary.
Note: RTAS capability is built into Auto-Tune 7 TDM/RTAS. Not only is it not necessary
to separately install an RTAS version, doing so can cause all sorts of annoying
problems.
AUTHORIZATION
Authorization is the process by which this software is allowed to run on your computer.
Detailed instructions covering the available authorization options will be found in the file
“Authorization Read Me” which is included with your software download.
NOTE: You will not be able to launch Auto-Tune 7 until you have completed the
authorization process and downloaded your authorization to your iLok smart key.
For those upgrading from older versions of Auto-Tune, is it critical to note the following:
Auto-Tune 7 will NOT open sessions created with Auto-Tune Evo. (The addition of the
time manipulation capabilities would require you to completely re-track your audio,
effectively negating any previously made edits in the session.)
For that reason, we have configured Auto-Tune 7 such that it and Auto-Tune Evo can
be active in your DAW simultaneously.
Auto-Tune 7 (like Auto-Tune Evo before it) will also NOT open sessions created with
Auto-Tune 5 or earlier versions. The improvements made to the core technology are so
extensive that it just won’t work.
For that reason, we have also configured Auto-Tune 7 such that it and Auto-Tune 5 and
all earlier versions of Auto-Tune can be active in your DAW simultaneously.
However, it’s important to note that Auto-Tune 5 (and earlier versions) have long been
discontinued and we will not be releasing future updates to any of them. Consequently,
it’s inevitable that between computer OS advancements and host updates, those earlier
versions will eventually stop working.
If you have current saved sessions with instances of Auto-Tune 5 or earlier that you
may need to access into the indefinite future, we offer the following suggestions:
• If you are satisfied with the current Auto-Tune settings, use whatever method your
host offers (bouncing, offline editing, etc.) to permanently render the corrected tracks.
• If you believe you will need to keep editing into the future, remove the instances of the
earlier versions of Auto-Tune and replace them with instances of Auto-Tune 7.
PLUG-IN USE
Auto-Tune 7 can be used as a real-time TDM or RTAS plug-in, or from the AudioSuite
menu.
DSP USAGE
In most cases, Auto-Tune 7 uses an entire DSP chip except when running on a 321
chip at a sample rate below 50 kHz. Auto-Tune 7 (bass) always uses an entire DSP
chip.
Avid HD cards will support 48 kHz and lower sample rates. 321 chips on HD/Accel
boards support up to 96kHz. 192 kHz is not supported on current Avid DSP boards. 192
kHz is supported with the RTAS version if your computer is capable of handling it.
HIERARCHICAL MENUS
With Pro Tools' hierarchical plug-in menus, Auto-Tune 7 will be found in the category
"Pitch Shift."
In order to take advantage of Auto-Tune 7's Graphical Mode Sync capability, you must
be using Pro Tools HD 7.2 or later.
Due to the way Pro Tools captures some data, only the items in the lower portion of the
Options Dialog (inside the "box") are permanently saved as defaults.
Due to the basic architecture of TDM systems, Auto-Tune 7's time manipulation
functions are not available in TDM and the associated controls are disabled. To make
use of these functions, use the RTAS version.
For best performance, we recommend a buffer size of 1024 when performing time
manipulation in the RTAS version.
The Transpose control is disabled (along with the Formant Correction and Throat
Length controls) in the TDM version. To make use of these functions, use the RTAS
version.
Attempting to shift pitch by a range of more than one octave by moving Note Objects,
Curves, or by drawings Lines can result in artifacts. For most pitch-shifting applications,
the RTAS version is preferred (especially since it also offers Formant Correction and
Throat Modeling).
When Auto-Tune is used as a real-time insert in Graphical Mode, it is not able to detect
when a segment of audio has looped when using Options->Loop Playback.
Consequently, you should not enable Loop Playback. Specifically, when correcting a
segment, do not play the segment in Loop Playback mode. If desired, stop playback at
the end of the segment, relocate to the start of the segment and play again. Note that
Loop Playback is handled correctly in AudioSuite mode.
MODIFIER KEYS
Pro Tools does not make the Command (Apple) key available to Auto-Tune, so the
various Command key combinations are not available.
You may have the option to use Auto-Tune 7 TDM in other properly configured hosts
(e.g., in DAE mode in Digital Performer or Logic). However, please note that our TDM
versions are designed specifically for Pro Tools, so we cannot guarantee 100%
functionality in other host applications and do not officially support such use.
