0 INTRODUCTION

What is an Engineering? Many people think that engineering was a tough course and
cannot go far in this profession but actually it is true and why it is true is because nothing in this
world is easy and if we learnt about it, then it became easy. Engineering is a vast and wide job
application because engineering can cover air water and ground from vehicle to building and also
chemicals. Engineering is the mind in all plans when it comes to build, innovate nor maintain
building for example. Engineering have a lot of responsibilities hanging on their hands because
they are the one who will take responsible if any accident happens at the building or vehicle they
invented.

Engineer must be very ethic and well-disciplined because when there is an engineer who
is not well discipline, accident will occur and there will be a loss of life. That is why each and
every engineer who takes any engineering occupation must follow these engineering ethics so
that the engineering produces nowadays were very quality and capable of avoiding small
accident from occurring. To be in the engineering scope, an engineer must have the highest level
of integrity and standard of honesty when it comes to work. In engineering, the engineer also
needed to be creative so that when problem show up, engineer can find ways to solve those
problem by just using anything so that the problem would not causes much trouble. In addition,
engineering not only uses mind to think, but also practical work in this occasion.

For example, a chemical engineer work in a plant not straight away become an engineer,
but first these engineer will learn how to be a technician or learnt lesson teaches by the senior
engineer in a plant by doing those dirty stuff and work in a plant. To be a good engineer, there
are few principles of ethical codes engineer must obey so that there will be lots of integrity and
honesty in their work. Integrity engineer is an engineer that does not taking any bribe like
nowadays news so famous about an engineer taking bribe for their own profit and that is why
certain project in Malaysia have lots of accident and not have much quality in their work.

2.0 DISCUSSION

Based on research done previously, chemical engineering or mechanical or civil, in fact this
engineering is a member of the professional community that is defined not only by training and
practical work, but also to the work and responsibilities in the service of the general public in
developing the industrial sector and in particular the approval of certain standards and behavior
in carrying out their work. Among the tasks of engineers who are ethical in their careers is purely
technical in the plant and as an example, engineers are expected to use the proper data, perform
calculations correctly, and comply with the various codes and protocols are available, the
practice in the design, construction, and operations. In addition, the code of professional ethics
has provided clear guidelines which reflect the common understanding of the professional
community about what to do.

This situation can put an engineer in a position where the best course of action is not clear
in such cases, the code prioritize what is considered ethical and responsible behavior. By
entering this code, engineers can expect the support of the professional community if conflict
arises as a result of action taken in accordance with the established code of ethics. It provides
guidance to engineers in the expectation expressed by engineer’s peers. A code of ethics set of
guidelines which can be self-regulating profession, and dismiss individuals who through their
behavior will damage their reputation, credibility, and effectiveness of the profession. Support
and maintenance of the code can be beneficial to all members of the engineering profession.

Furthermore, this were few fundamental principles for codes of engineering ethics that
engineers should uphold and advance the integrity, honor and dignity of the engineering
profession by using their knowledge and skill to grab the attention of investors and also the boss
and CEO of a company in order to develop the project. Besides that, being honest in dealing with
their client by giving their best to gain client interest on developing certain project with client’s
company. Then, engineers need to improve the efficiency and prestige of engineering to reduce
fatalities at work or at the project site. because when an accident occurs, the investor will
immediately feel afraid of their investments and will continue to withdraw.

 There are few principles codes of ethic in the engineering field that engineers from all
occasion need to abide these codes to ensure pure quality on work and surrounding:

A. Engineers shall hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public
in the performance of their professional duties.

This kind of ethic usually tasked to safety and health engineer where their job is to
ensure the safety of those worker onsite plus the safety of each equipment uses during
developing the project. The responsibility borne by these engineers is great because these safety
engineers played with the lives of workers and the life of their own, and these engineers who will
conduct inspections every week depending on the cases and also the equipment used in the
project to ensure the safety of workers, the project site, and also the safety of the public living
near the project site. Whenever an accident occurred, these engineer are the one who are
responsible and will be interrogate firstly by the police nor the company based on the accident
happen. During work on site, these engineer must ensure that there is no pollution such as dust
haze, release sound more than working hour near the residency area.

B. Engineers shall continue their professional development throughout their

advantages so that those engineer can work for long time of period without any problem in the
company.

C. Engineers shall consider environmental impact and sustainable development

Usually, these ethic is abiding by environmental engineer where these engineer are the one who
responsible on surveying the environment of the project site, whether it is suitable or not to do a
multi-million value plant there. During the development of the plant, these engineer will do a
survey on the project site and the area surrounding the project site. Plus, these engineer will
always ensure that the environment are safe for the worker to work so that there are no fatalities
incident happen that would cost loss for the company and high responsible taken for the engineer
of environment. Thus, these engineer not just doing the observation on surrounding only, but
also including the ground and soil, whether it is capable of sustaining the weight of the plant and
the geology of the site as well.

3.0 SUMMARY

Engineering is a field where knowledge and skills are applied in the profession to build or
maintained certain things such as building, car and etc. Sometimes being an engineer also can
become an inventor by inventing new stuff to build a better world. By being an engineer, there
also needed to be a good engineer so that there will be no unwanted incident happen during
workplace or after certain project has been done and being used by normal citizen and causes
loss in their life. Therefore, it will be a nightmare for an engineer if that kind of cases happen in
their life. Thus, there is way to prevent those cases or incident just by following and practice
these few codes of ethic being discuss before this, so hopefully in the future will be a lots of
better and integrity engineer and there will be no more cases of engineer in the news.
