Table 1: Preferred Methods For Storing Data.: Purpose of Programming

Computing involves using computer technology to complete tasks through designing software and hardware systems. Programming is the process of giving step-by-step instructions to computers to perform tasks and produce desired results. This is done through programming languages that provide rules for telling computers what operations to perform. The goal of programming is to convert problem solutions into computer instructions through writing programs, testing them, and making corrections so the computer can complete the intended task. Learning programming helps understand how computers work and determines if one has an analytical mind for programming.

I. What is Computing?

Computing is the process of using computer technology

to complete a given goal oriented task. Computing may
encompass the design and development of software and
hardware systems for a broad range of purposes to aid in
the pursuant of scientific studies, making intelligent
systems and creating and using different media for
entertainment and communication.

II. What is programming?

A program is a set of step-by-step instructions that directs the computer to do the tasks you want it
to do and produce the results you want. Computer programming is a way of giving computers
instructions about what they should do next. A set of rules that provides a way of telling a
computer what operations to perform is called a programming language.

The end goal is to create something: that could mean anything from a web page, or a piece of
software, or even just a pretty picture. That’s why computer programming is often described as a
mix between art and science; it’s technical and analytical, yet creative at the same time.

Purpose of programming
To convert problem solutions into instructions for the computer. This can be done through
preparing the instructions of a computer program and running those instructions on the computer,
testing the program to see if it is working properly, and making corrections to the program. The
programmer also writes a report on the program.

Advantages of learning Programming

 It helps you understand computers. The computer is only a tool. If you learn how to write
simple programs, you will gain more knowledge about how a computer works.
 Learning programming lets you find out quickly whether you like programming and
whether you have the analytical turn of mind programmers need. Even if you decide that
programming is not for you, understanding the process certainly will increase your
appreciation of what programmers and computers can do.
