1. What is Transposition?
In order that voltage drop are equal in all conductor =s, we generally interchange the positions
of the conductors at regular intervals along the line so that each conductor occupies the original
position of every other conductor over an equal distance. Such an exchange of positions is
known as transposition.
2. What are the line constants a transmission line?
Line constants are Resistance, Inductance and Capacitance are the line constants of a
transmission line.
3. What is Short Transmission Line?
When the length of an overhead transmission line is upto about 50km and the line voltage is
comparatively low (<20KV), it is usually considered as a short transmission line
4. What is Medium Transmission line?
When the length of an overhead transmission line is about 50km- 150Km and the line voltage is
moderately high (>20KV <100KV), it is considered as a Medium transmission line.
5. What is Long Transmission line?
When the length of an overhead transmission line is more than 150km and the line voltage is
very high (>100KV), it is considered as a Long transmission line.
6. What is Voltage Regulation?
The difference in voltage at the receiving end of a transmission line between conditions of no
load and full load is called voltage regulation.
7. What is transmission efficiency?
The ratio of receiving end power to the sending power of a transmission line is known as the
transmission efficiency.
8. What is the justification in neglecting line capacitance in short transmission lines?
Due to smaller length and lower voltage, the capacitance are small and c\hence can be
neglected.
9. What are the most commonly used methods for the solution of medium transmission line?
Most common methods for the solution of medium transmission line are,
(i) End Condenser method (ii) Nominal T Method (iii) Nominal ∏ Method.
10. What is Nominal T Method?
In this method the whole capacitance is is assumed to be concentrated at the middle point of
the line and half the resistance and reactance are lumped on its either side,
11. What is Nominal ∏ method?
In this method, capacitance of each conductor (i.e. line to neutral) is divided into two halves;
one half being lumped at the sending end and the other half at the receiving end.
12. How the transmission line constants are considered in the long transmission line?
In long transmission line the line constants of the transmission line are uniformly distributed
over the entire length of the line.
13. To determine the generalized circuit constants how the voltage and currents are expressed?
To determine the generalized circuit constants or A B C D constants input or sending end voltage
and currents are expressed in terms of output or receiving end voltage and currents.
14. What is Ferranti Effect?
The magnitude of the receiving end voltage in medium and long transmission lines can be
greater than the sending end voltage. This phenomenon is called the Ferranti effect in power
systems.
15. What are the Feeders?
A feeder is conductor which connects the distribution substation to the area where the power is
to be distributed.
16. What are the distributors?
The distributors are the conductors which will bring the Electrical connection from transformer
center to the pole which is nearer to the consumer premises.
17. What are service mains?
The cable connected between the distributor and the consumer terminal is called as the service
line or service mains.
18. What are the different types of feeders used in the distribution systems?
The feeders used in the distribution system are,
Radial Feeders, Parallel Feeders, Ring Main or loop Feeders and Interconnected network or
meshed systems.
19. What are the voltage levels in the secondary distribution systems?
In the secondary distribution systems voltage level for 3 phase is 400 to 440V and for 1-phase it
is 230 V.
20. What are the different distribution systems in secondary distribution?
Different distribution systems are,
(1) 3-Phase 3Wire system
(2) 3-Phase 4 wire system
(3) Single phase 2 wire system
