III. Procedure:
EXPLORE: Game: Message Relay
The students will be divided into 5 groups. Each group will have their own opportunity to
play the game. Each Group should assign a member as Observer another as a commentator.
Mechanics:
The 8 remaining members of the group will occupy the corners and sides of the
room surrounding the class and they will be tasked to do the following:
1. The first member will get the message inside a bowl and will memorize it then
relay it to the second member;
2. The second member then relay the message to other members of the group
until it reach the last member;
3. The last member will write the message on the board.
4. Each member only have 60 seconds to the message to another

5. The group who got the message correctly will be the winner.
After the game the students will answer the following question?
What do you think are the factors why group (winner) has effectively delivered
the message?
Why is it that other groups have failed to deliver the message?

Drill/Review: Concept Map


To activate prior knowledge of students about the lesson they will be asked to do the
following:
(Board Work or Written)
Students will write anything that comes into your mind when you hear the word
’’Communication’’.
After that the students will be ask to justify how such word or phrase is related to the given word.

Motivation:
Short Video Clip Viewing
(The History of Communication and its Evolution)

After viewing the Short Clip the students will answer the following questions:
1. What have you seen in the video?

2. When did communication started? In what specific age/period?

3. If you were watching and listening attentively, narrate the evolution or change in the

means of communication since the time it was discovered.

4. What do you think will happen if human beings have not discovered communication?

5. Why is it a need for a human being to communicate?

Statement of Learning Outcomes:


Other than the basic needs, a person should communicate in order to live a better
life. At the end of the lessons students should be able to:
1. Define communication.

2. Distinguish the unique feature(s) of one communication process from the other.

Activity 1. Group Work (5 members)
Each group will be given with a set of strip papers printed with words which comprise
various definition of the word Communication.
The group should arrange the word in order to create a definition of communication.
If the group is finished they should read their definition that they were able to create.
Definitions:
Communication is a process by which information is exchanged between individuals
through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior. _Merriam Webster’s
Dictionary
Communication is imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using
some other medium` _Oxford Dictionary
” Communication is transfer of information from one person to another, whether or not it
elicits confidence. But the information transferred must be understandable to the receiver’
– G.G. Brown
James Carey famously defined communication as "a symbolic process whereby reality is
produced, maintained, repaired and transformed"
Communication is a process that involves the exchange and the development of ideas to
achieve a particular goal or purpose. (Redoblado.2016)

Based on the definitions the students should write down common words or relating words
from each of the definitions.

Those are the different definitions of communication according to experts. Now, What
are important elements of communication?

Discussion of the Elements of Communication
Communication is a transfer of idea from one person to another.
Questions:
1. Who is the source of ideas being sent to the receiver? Sender
2. In order to communicate, a sender needs an instrument to be able to transmit his
feelings, thoughts and ideas. What do you call that instrument?
3. It refers to the way message is being sent. What is it?
4. Who receives the message from the source?
5. What do you call the ideas, thoughts and feelings sent as a response to the message
sent by the sender?
6. Is there a possibility that a sender can become a receiver?

7. When there is lacking in one of the elements, do you think communication can take
place?

Why do we need to communicate?

Summary/Generalization

1. Sender- This is the person that initiates the process. It is also a person who is

responsible of the transmission of ideas to the receiver.

2. Receiver- This is the person who interprets the message from the sender.

3. Message- This is the idea sent by the sender.

4. Medium- This is the channel through which the message is delivered. It may be Oral,

Written, or even non-verbal.

5. Feedback- This is the response to message. It also confirms that the message has

been correctly interpreted.

Communication is a process through which message the message is being

transmitted.

Processes

1. Encoding- is the process of transforming one’s ideas, feelings, and thoughts into

sounds, signs and symbols.

2. Decoding- is the process of interpreting encoded sounds, signs, and symbols to

understand the message sent.

Noise- noise is an intervening factor which could cause communication breakdown.

following situation. You may use art materials for a creative output.

1. A new student is having an interview with the guidance counselor.

2. A teacher reporting an incident to a parent over the phone.

3. A news reporter is broadcasting updates about Martial Law in Mindanao

4. A romance author is telling the story of two lovers.

5. Group of students is having a discussion about their project.

considered as a sender in this communication?

write a letter. Communication can also be done through writing. What element of

communication is being described?

5. Joyce Bernal is a journalist. She often can be seen on television featuring beautiful

tourists’ spots in Antique. There are positive comments and response to her blog sites

too. What element of communication is the Joyce’s followers refer to?

List at least five communications you’ve made during the week end. Determine the
