/*The need for producing more energy increases with our rising need for
commercial,
industrial, and residential space.
In any industrial facility, turbines and motors are used to produce
rotational
mechanical motion to perform different kind of tasks. */
The industrial power transmission market works with basic & conventional
methods of power transmission.
Open-drive products like belt drives, chain drives, gear drives, etc.
have their own set of advantages and disadvantages.
Moving onto belt drives, they are used to transmit motion from one shaft
to another with the help of a thin inextensible belt that runs over two
pulleys.
It is basically a looped strip of flexible material that mechanically
link the rotating shafts.
There are various kind of belt drives available in the market such as
flat belt, V-belt, rope drive and timing belt. It is important to select
the right kind of belt drive, depending upon:
-Power to be transmitted
-Direction of belt motion
-Shaft’s velocity and Velocity ratio
-Service conditions
-Distance between shafts and space available
In this, the shafts rotate in the same direction that means the direction
of rotating is the same as driving and driven pulley.
If the shafts are having a more distance between driver and driving
pulley
then there must be the upper side will be slack side and the below side
will be the tight side.
So as we have seen in the open type belt drive transmission, both the
driver and the driven pulleys rotate in the same direction....
but what if we need to rotate the driven pulley in the direction opposite
to that of the driver pulley and we just can't move the
driver pulley to meet this requirement...
in that case we can just cross** the belt such that there is a contact
between the
top and bottom belt*(animation of turning the open type belt to cross
belt)
then the driven pulley will rotate in the direction opposite to that of
the driver pulley, which is usually powered by a DC motor ....
heY!!(hurrah!!** whatever) (confetti animation) we just achieved it ...
and also there is less slip compared to open type belt drive...
now we can say this because the angle of contact (alpha) is more here
(**show the angle of contact)
but we have achieved this at what cost (**avengers 'but at what cost'
pic/ but there is a down side to this) ...
there is a considerable wear and tear in the belt ...
as you can see the adjacent parts of the belt are continuously rubbing
against each other and therefore with time
the belt wears off, and at some point it cannot be used.
but still this has its own advantages...well as we have seen .... (**
like a points chart animated point by point)
>> we can get the direction opposite to that of the driver
>> the contact angle is larger therefore the slip is reduced
also we can reduce the wear and tear in the belt by increasing the
distance between the pulleys is feasible
though this type of belt drive is very rarely used it has quite a
significance amount of importance in transmission** (better last sentence
required)
