AIRFOIL PROTOTYPE
Name of the Airfoil: Clark Y Airfoil
Advantages and Disadvantages of Clark Y Airfoil

 Advantages
1. The flat bottom simplifies angle measurements on propellers
2. Makes for easy construction of wings on a flat surface
3. Has been an adequate airfoil section; it gives reasonable overall performance in respect of its lift-
to-drag ratio
4. Has gentle and relatively benign stall characteristics.

 Disadvantages
1. The flat lower surface is not optimal from an aerodynamic perspective
2. It is rarely used in modern design

8. Paint Brush
9. Lotus Paint
10. Adhesive Tape
Step by Step procedure of the Project
1. Cut each 1 ft picture of Clark Y Airfoil
2. Paste it on the Plywood using Adhesive Tape
3. Cut the plywood base on Airfoil design
4. Use sandpaper to assure all airfoils are equal in shapes
4. Divide the Airfoil into five points for the stringers
5. Cut each divided points top and bottom equal to the width of the bamboo sticks
6. Insert 1 ft bamboo sticks for the stringers in the five divided points
7. Cut 4 inches bamboo sticks
8. Insert 4 in bamboo sticks for spars
9. Cut the first divided point from the trailing edge for the flaps
10. Shape the flap to an airfoil shape using Sandpaper
11. Add 2 cut the same airfoil shapes for the first right and left end of airfoils
12. Assemble using Thumb tucks at both sides 2 thumb tucks each
13. Use sandpaper for finishing and cleaning
14. Apply Lotus Paint on the project 1’st to 3’rd coat
15. Wait 1-2 hours for each coat time to dry
Conclusion
Clark Y is the name of a particular aerofoil profile. Its simplicity having flat on the lower
surface makes it easy to construct and have a better aerodynamic performance. Therefore I can
conclude it is the main reason why it is widely used in general purpose aircraft designs, and much
studied in aerodynamics over the years
