Personal protective equipment is not the solution to every problem related
Head Protection
Hearing Protection
to chemical or physical hazards on the job. It is the last solution selected
Protecting the Body from a list of three possible options. The two solutions considered before
Lab and Field Clothing protective equipment are:
Protective Clothing
Nomex Coveralls 1. Engineering Controls: remove the hazard, either by initial design or by
Hand Protection applying methods of substitution, isolation or ventilation.
Gloves
Foot Protection 2. Administrative Controls: These control exposure to hazards by limiting
Respiratory Protection work time in the hazard area and scheduling much of an employee’s
Fall Protection work in a non-hazardous location.
