Quiz #6: Submitted By: Shaloom Tariq 18-Arid-3039 Submitted To: Mam Sadaf Hamid

The document contains a student's quiz submission containing two questions and solutions. Question 1 asks to calculate the number of soldiers over 6 feet tall in a regiment of 1000, given the mean and variance of soldier heights. The student correctly solves this using the normal distribution. Question 2 asks when the normal distribution is used, and the student answers that it is used when the distribution of a population factor approximates a normal shape, such as for heights, weights, and test scores. The normal distribution is important as it models many real-world phenomena.

Question 1:
The mean height of soldiers is 68.22 inches with variance of 10.8 inches. Assuming the
distribution of heights to be normal, how many soldiers in a regiment of 1000 would you
expect to b over 6 feet tall?
Solution:
X = 68.22
Ϭ2 = 10.8
Ϭ= √2 10.8 = 3.28
Above 6 feet = 72 inches
For X= 72
Z= X-X / Ϭ
= 72- 68.22/ 3.28
=1.15
P(z> 1.15) = 0.3749
Solider above 6 feet will be = 1000× 0.3749= 375 Ans…
Question 2:
When we use normal distribution?
Solution:
The normal distribution is widely used in understanding distributions of factors in
the population. Because the normal distribution approximates many natural
phenomena so well, it has developed into a standard of reference for many
probability problems.
The normal distribution is the most important probability distribution in statistics because
it fits many natural phenomena.
For example, heights, blood pressure etc.
