Visual Arts Reflective Journal


Marking Scheme

The Journal
- Should display your ability to critically analyse and connect meaning to artworks.
- Plagiarism results in the debarring of the student to write any CSEC exams and a possible
suspension of 5 years. In other words, do not cut and paste directly from sources, without
any reference to it.
- A Bibliography is important in reflecting a variety of sources used in the journal research.

Visual Elements
- Pictures should be of a high quality.
- Visuals should be captioned (e.g. title, date, size, medium, etc…)

Process
- The development process should be properly documented.

Marking Scheme

Visual Presentation of Cover
Cover Design should be reflective of theme. It should also have:
- Visual Arts Reflective Journal

- The Title/Theme (even is the student is using 2 themes).
- Candidate’s Number, but not candidate’s name.

Overall Visual Presentation of Journal


Creativity (3); Neatness (2); Cohesive Layout (5)

Note: Includes proper use of borders and labels.
Use fixatives for charcoal and pastel pieces.

Presentation of Visuals
- Images should be clearly labelled/captioned and formatted.

- Images must also be relevant and supportive of theme and content.

Sample of the Chosen Artist’s Artworks


At least 5 samples of artwork, which must be relevant/linked to candidate’s own work
e.g. technique, skill, media and theme.

Remember that images should be of high quality, properly formatted, labelled and
relevant to your theme or task.

Candidate’s Samples
- Candidate is required to submit 10 samples (5 from each expressive form), using
excellent documentation of the art making process (analysis, photos of process,

sketches, experimentation, etc…)
- Candidate must show average 4 – 5 steps of the process (sketch to final).

Theoretical Content
- Appropriateness of title
- Communication of information (vocabulary, grammar, articulation of ideas)
- Legibility
- Evidence of Historical (History of Option), Cultural (How it is traditionally used in
T&T?) and Contemporary Content (How it is used today?).

- Data Gathering (4-5 data sources) – use a variety of books, Internet, interviews.
- Critical Analysis – candidate should demonstrate insightful and creative thought
in their expressions and interpretations – use of elements and principles of
design, emotional aspect (inspiration), attention grabbers, impact, making a link
between the artist’s and candidate’s work.

Appendix (optional)
This may include the transcript of the interview.

Terms specific to T&T – you may decide to use a footnote as an alternative.
