1. INTRODUCING MULTILAB-IV
1.1 INTRODUCING
Multilab-IV is a fundamental element of the Maselli BAS-01 and BAS-02
for the analysis and monitoring of soft drink production lines. Multilab-IV is a
complete system for monitoring and acquiring industrial data for PC which interfaces
with Maselli line analyzers.
The unit is designed and built to assist quality control laboratory technicians in their
work by providing the fast responses needed by today's increasingly powerful and high
speed production systems.
When connected on a serial line with the apparatus installed in the field, Multilab-IV can
satisfy a broad range of requirements:
• monitoring, control and management of up to 8 production lines
• transmission of plant performance data and information in real time
• direct editing of the current operating parameters on the production line
• generation and storage of up to 999 combinations of working parameters, called
recipes, each associated with a specific product
• transmission of a combination of parameters to the apparatus so that they can
become operational on the production line
All the functions needed to work with Multilab are displayed in the form of windows so
that even inexperienced personnel can use the system.

®
for personalizing Microsoft Windows XP. The options available which may influence
the functioning of Multilab-IV are:
a) IMPOSTAZIONI INTERNAZIONALI:
Multilab-IV can only work if the numerical format is set correctly; it is important
to set “point” as the separator of units from decimal figures and “comma” as the
separator of groups of thousands. To see if this parameter has been set
correctly, select the icon “Impostazioni Internazionali”.
In the “Numeri” window, modify the decimal separator to “point” and the symbol
for figure grouping to “comma” (see fig.).
In the “Valuta” window modify the decimal separator to “point” and the symbol
for figure grouping to “comma” (see fig.).

c) STAMPANTI E FAX:
Select the relative icon for checking and/or modifying the presence of one or
more printers connected to the system and the use of Print Manager for printing
management; then use the various controls to activate a connection to a
predefined printer to act as system printer.
For further clarification regarding this type of operation, please refer to the
manuals supplied with Microsoft® Windows.
d) SCHERMO
Select the appropriate icon in order to see all the system screen pages correctly,
then in the “Tema:” window select “Windows classico”.
(usually the folder is the C:\DATALAB unless a different path was chosen during the
installation phase of the Maselli Multilab program), giving it the sharing name
DATASRC, with the reading/writing privilege to all the users interested in its use.
At this point, on any other Personal Computer connected in the LAN local network, it
will be possible to browse the network resources, and once the network member
called SERVER is visualized, it will be possible to visualize it’s shared folder called
DATASRC.
These suppositions, once completed the Setup Wizard for the Remote Datamas (that
is the data process part of the Multilab-IV, since the control part exclusively pertains
to the SERVER computer), will guarantee that the remote Personal Computer can
visualize in real time, by means of its standard functions, explained in detail in the
following chapters, the data coming from the production lines, further than visualizing
all the numeric, graphic and statistic reports that draw from the database present on
the main computer called SERVER.
There is no limit to the number of clients that can be connected to a Personal
Computer which acts as a server, if not the limits imposed by the operative system in
use. For more information refer to the documentation provided with the SERVER
personal computer, concerning the maximum number of network connections
available towards other PC’s. The band width available on the network is a
parameter of which it is also important to consider. A network of at least 10 Mbit/s is
advisable.
It is necessary to select the pertaining Setup Wizard indicated hereafter if wanting to
interface a CLIENT Personal Computer, by means of a local LAN network connected
to a SERVER Personal Computer on which is operating a previously configured
Multilab-IV in order to receive data from one or more apparatus.
Press the “Next” key in order to carry on with the step that follows; to return to the
previous one, use the “Back” key. If wanting to stop the configuration operations and
exit from the Wizard program, press the “Exit” key, and the program will end without
saving the eventual settings.
4.3 GENERAL
In this step, the operator has to indicate Multilab-IV’s working directory. Select with
the appropriate controls the name of the disk unit and of the directory in which the
Maselli Multilab-IV program is present.
This box will normally show the correct directory, but in certain cases it may be
necessary to specify a different path.
After entering the data in this panel, click "Next" to go to the next step. If you decide
to interrupt the configuration procedure and quit the Setup Wizard, click on “Exit” to
close the program without saving your changes.
After terminating the data entry procedures in this panel, click “Next” to go to the next
step or "Back" to return to the previous step. On the contrary, if you decide to
interrupt the configuration procedure and quit the Setup Wizard, click on “Exit” to
close the program without saving your changes.
During normal use of Multilab-IV, all numerical and graphic display panels and
graphic, statistical reports etc. will indicate the relative data line by displaying the
name entered in this panel.
After terminating the data entry procedures in this panel, click “Next” to go to the next
step or "Back" to return to the previous step. On the contrary, if you decide to
interrupt the configuration procedure and quit the Setup Wizard, click on “Exit” to

5.1.3 MULTIMEDIA
Multilab-IV can exploit Windows multimedia capabilities by using an audible signal or
pre-recorded sound to signal alarm conditions on connected instruments.
First the software logo will appear together with program release information, then
Multilab-IV will open, presenting a series of control elements which will be fully
explained in this manual:
1) a control menu listing all available functions.
2) a toolbar will allow, with a simple click on the mouse, to quickly perform
important functions.
3) a “Quick Recall Bar” that provides fast call facilities for all the panels enabled.
The “Quick Recall Bar” can be replaced with alternative bars (Quick Report Bar,
Quick Graph Bar and Quick Stat Bar).
Generic information concerning the various menus available will be provided later.
The following chapters, on the other hand deal with the various data display frames
which appear depending on the different apparatus present on the line.
If you select “Printer Setup” you will be presented with the standard Windows printer
setup panel where you can set the various system printer parameters:
When you have selected the required printer, confirm by clicking OK.
“Print Active Panel” provides a printout of the currently active display panel. The
active panel is identified with a different colour status bar at the top (e.g. the panel at
the top left of the following figure). If you click this option with no panel is currently on
the screen, Multilab-IV will display an error message.
Select “Data Storage Options” to set the data saving time interval expressed in
seconds.
Select “Stop Data Acquisition” to interrupt the acquisition of data.
Select “Start Data Acquisition” to restart data acquisition if previously interrupted.
Multilab-IV usually runs in the User mode; the next level up, i.e. Programmer Level, is
reserved for Maselli personnel for maintenance purposes and is password protected.
Do not attempt to use this function. An error password displayed after each attempt
to enter an incorrect password.
Multilab-IV can control audible alarm signals; when an audible alarm is active, it can
be muted by selecting the “Silence Alarms” option in this menu.
As described in the Window menu section, users can access panels and reports by
clicking the relative buttons on the quick bars. The panels and reports can also be
opened from the “Data” menu by way of the “Quick Recall”, “Quick Report”, “Quick
Graph” and “Quick Statistic” options, each of which opens a submenu containing the
bar options and the commands to scroll through the 96 items available for each one.
In this manner, the quick bar functions can be accessed also on systems not
equipped with a mouse, by using the necessary keystrokes. Note however, that the
use of a mouse is strongly recommended.
“Next Bar” and “Previous Bar” are equivalent to the Forward-Back keys mentioned
earlier.
The same functionality also applies to the “Quick Report”, “Quick Graph and “Quick
Statistic” submenu options to select the items in the relative bars.
Files transferred using the “Save Selected Files” option can be restored by means
utility standard of Windows “Windows Explorer”.
As explained earlier, Multilab-IV saves files to the subdirectory ARCHIVE which is in
the same directory as Multilab-IV program files (e.g. C:\DATALAB\ARCHIVE).
You can now choose a topic (usually the name of a data line) with which a memo is
to be associated. After selecting the required topic, i.e. the Class Name, a box will
open in which you can type the Memo you wish to save. Now click OK to save the
Memo and classify it as a note relative to the selected class (in the example, the note
will refer to line 1).
Note that the panel presents only boxes relative to the lines enabled. Each enabled
line features a button that serves to reset standard deviation and average values,
which automatically reset the relative quality coefficient values Pa, Pp and Ppk.
There are four types of bar: “Quick Recall Bar” to call display panels in real time,
“Quick Report Bar” to call numerical reports, “Quick Graph Bar” to call graphic reports
and “Quick Stat Bar” to call statistical reports.
Quick recall bar
The bars present up to 96 different panels/reports, divided into groups of six, which
can be selected by means of a button; to scroll between the panels/reports use the
Forward-Back keys marked “>>” and “<<”.
You can use the Window menu options to select one of the four available types of
bar.

variables. The updated list of variables available for the creation of personalized
reports is provided at the end of this chapter in the form of a series of tables.
Select the “Show Quick Statistic Bar” function from the Window menu, as indicated
earlier. Special “Statistic Bars” are created, depending on the configuration realized
for selection of the apparatus present in the lines.
The User report allows you to choose which variables to search in the database
(max. 6) and display in the table.
The database can be searched for:
• analog variables
• digital variables
In the example, the personalized report analyzes three analog variables and three
digital variables.
b) qualitative statistical report, i.e. a report in which the average and standard values
and quality coefficients Pa, Pp and Ppk are calculated for a given variable (e.g. Brix
or CO2) as shown in the following figure:
To use this panel, you must follow a sequence of steps, entering the relevant
parameters in the upper section:
Select the analysis start date with the From Date menu
Select the analysis end date with the To Date menu
Select the analysis start time with the From Time menu
Select the analysis end time with the To Time menu
Select the name of the product on which to run the search (or select All Products) in
the Product box.
Select the Data Tick interval between one datum and the next (this function is useful
if you have a large quantity of data and need a fast overview); if this value is left on
the default 0 all data will be examined; setting a value different from 0 means that
only data that are separated by at least this value (in seconds) will be considered.
During the data search the grid will be completed with approximately 500 records
each time; you can therefore select or deselect the Stop Every Page option so that
the program pauses or continues after each grid of values has been compiled.
There is also the possibility of filtering the data, excluding from the research all those
that were stored during the Line Stopped phase, that means during a plant fault or
when the production is stopped. The data found and considered by the Multilab-IV,
will therefore be more significant, because they won’t have any anomalous values.
To start the filtration, it is necessary to enable the option called Filtering by clicking
on the mouse:
Click Search to start the search within the selected time window.
If Stop Every Page is selected, click Continue to proceed to the next page.
To interrupt a search click on Stop; otherwise the search will proceed until reaching
the preset end date and time.
Example of search results
If a particular datum is associated with a long Memo, you can display the full contents
by clicking on the Notes box.
In this panel it is possible to select and divide the search intervals into a few minutes.
For example, if “From Time” is set to 00:00:00 and “To Time “ is set to 01:00:00 with
“Data Tick” set at 10 minutes, 6 intervals will be displayed holding the mean,
minimum and maximum target, the mean and standard deviation, the difference
between the maximum and minimum deviation value.
To export your data open the Export menu and specify the filename to be used for
the procedure. The data will be copied to the specified file in ASCII format in which
they are entered between quotes (“ ") which serve as field separators so that the
values they contain can be imported correctly. Any Memos associated with your data
will not be exported, thereby eliminating potential problems when arranging the
values in columns and incompatibility with the spreadsheet you intend to use.
You can decide to enable/disable one or more variables to be included in the report.
The complete list of variables available for each device connected to Multilab-IV is
included at the end of the relative Setup Wizard section in the initial chapters of this
manual.
Variables can be Analog, Digital, Product Names and Memo Notes. After selecting
the variables the selection panel is managed just like a normal numerical report as
already described in this chapter. All settings made in the panel in the User report
function will be retained in the memory and re-proposed the next time the report is
opened.
For each graph enabled select the start range and end range values for the Y axis,
bearing in mind that the minimum value of Ymax-Ymin is 0.1.
Enable or disable the Auto-Range option (normally this function is enabled) that
allows to automatically size the graphics’ Y axes.
If you intend to print the graph, you can now specify the title (the name will appear at
the top of the page). If you do not intend to make a printout this option can be
skipped.
Selection of Y axes range values and titles for printouts
There is also the possibility of filtering the data, excluding from the research all those
that were stored during the Line Stopped phase, that is, during a plant fault or when
the production is stopped. The data found and considered by the Multilab-IV, will
therefore be more significant, because they won’t have any anomalous values. To
start the filtration, it is necessary to enable the option called Filtering by clicking on
the mouse:
Click on Search to start searching the data within the selected time window
To interrupt a search click on Stop; otherwise the search will proceed until reaching
the preset end date and time.
To display Memos, which are shown on the graph as small yellow rectangles with a
number, right click the mouse with the cursor on the relative rectangle. The memo
note will now be displayed.
Memo note displayed by right clicking the mouse
You can also regenerate or/and delete a portion of the data retrieved by the search
by clicking Select or left clicking the mouse and dragging the resulting broken lines
onto the required area. When the data have been selected click Redraw to search
data in the newly selected time interval or push the Delete button to delete the
selected data. If your system is not equipped with a mouse you can select a portion
of data, after pressing the Select button, by using the <<, <, >, >> buttons to move
the broken lines onto the required data area.
You can also zoom the X axis using the zoom-in or zoom-out buttons in the X Axis
Zoom section; this section also allows you to choose the degree of enlargement or
reduction (2x or 4x).
You can enable up to four graphs choosing, for each one, up to four variables each
of which is assigned a distinctive colour. The complete list of variables available for
each type of device connected to Multilab-IV is included at the end of the relative
Setup Wizard section in the initial chapters of this manual.
It is advisable to choose variables with values in a comparable range for each graph,
considering that the vertical (Y) axis can be personalized. On the contrary, if you
want to generate graphs of non-uniform variables (e.g. Brix and CO2) you should use
two separate graphs, i.e. with different Y axes.
The variables can be either Analog or Digital. After selecting the variables the
selection panel is managed just like a normal graphic report as already described in
this chapter. All settings made in the panel in the User report function will be retained
in the memory and re-proposed the next time the report is opened.
To use this panel, you must follow a sequence of steps, entering the relevant
parameters in the upper section.
Select the analysis start date with the From Date menu
Select the analysis end date with the To Date menu
Select the analysis start time with the From Time menu
Select the analysis end time with the To Time menu
Select the name of the product on which to run the search (or select All Products) in
the Product box.
There is also the possibility of filtering the data, excluding from the research all those
that were stored during the Line Stopped phase, that is during a plant fault or when
the production is stopped. The data found and considered by the Multilab-IV, will
therefore be more significant, because they won’t have any anomalous values. To
start the filtration, it is necessary to enable the option called Filtering by clicking on
the mouse:
Click the Search button to start the search for data within the selected time window.
To interrupt a search click on Stop; otherwise the search will proceed until reaching
the preset end date and time.
To use this search panel perform the steps already described for statistical reports in
this heading. As regards the qualitative reports, they are created by analyzing the
variables one is interested in (for example the Brix value) and by comparing them to
some reference values, such as, for example, the Target and the High and Low
alarm values. Normally these reference values are drawn from the Multilab-IV
database. It is however possible to enter manual reference values, for example in
order to perform simulations or because the values stored on the database are not
correct for the analysis which has to be performed.
To choose between using the values drawn from the database (predefined option) or
entering values manually, the section called Reference Source can be used:
If Database is selected, the values will be automatically drawn, while if the Manual
option is selected, 3 boxes will open where the previously mentioned target and
alarm values will be inserted, to be used for the calculation of the Pa, Pp and Ppk
coefficients:
In this case press the Min and Max Target keys in order to manually insert the values
that are to be used in the analysis.
There is also an option called Gaussian, which allows to generate a gaussian curve,
by using the values drawn from the database, that represents in graphic format, the
quality of the data collected by the Multilab-IV during a specific production.
After having pressed the Search key, at the end of the data collection, the following
results will be obtained:
In this case you must enter analog variables in pre-defined order; specifically, to
calculate the quality coefficients Pa, Pp e Ppk you must utilize, in sequence:
• The variable to be analyzed
• The variable containing standard deviation values for each data segment
• The variable containing average values for each data segment
• The variable representing the production target value
• The variable containing the production High limit
• The variable containing the production Low limit
The complete list of variables available for each type of device connected to Multilab-
IV is included at the end of the relative Setup Wizard section in the initial chapters of
this manual. Variables can be either Analog or Digital. After the variables have been
selected the report generation panel is treated exactly the same as a normal
statistical report, as described earlier in this chapter.
All settings made in the panel in the User report function will be retained in the
memory and re-proposed the next time the report is opened.
The frame illustrated displays the program’s control panel. The panel shows some
sections reporting in real time data regarding the production in the various controlled
lines; these sections are customized according to the apparatus connected.
If an entire frame is flashing, it means that there is a problem on the serial
communication between Multilab-IV and the related unit, so in that case check that:
• Serial cables for communication with the apparatus are connected
• The apparatus are switched on and working.
If, instead, only Brix and/or CO2 values are blinking with reversed colors, check if the
measured values exceed the set-point.
In normal functioning, the frame shows the name of the product in process with the
values Brix, CO2 plus relevant Offset and it reports some general information about
the plant: lines conditions, Brix and CO2 alarms, position of the controllers with
position of the Brix actuating valve and pressure of the carbocooler or injection CO2
flow.
The lines from 1 to 4 are shown on the video at start-up: to see the display with the
data of the lines from 5 to 8, select the push-button Next placed in the lower part of
the panel.
Anyway, Multilab-IV shows only the lines enabled in the Mlab Setup Panel as will be
explained later in this manual, leaving empty the unused lines areas.
By selecting the icon situated on the top right hand side of the panel, it will be
possible to pass directly to the Multilab-IV’s Data section that allows the analysis of
the received data as already indicated in the previous chapters.
It is not necessary to use the combination Alt-Underlined Letter as usual for every
standard Windows application, since there is an internal special keyboard
management in order to have a faster Multilab-IV keyboard use.
2) Send to the apparatus specific working parameters for each product using a
simplified panel that can be activated by selecting the push-button Line n (1-8),
located in the upper part of the panel. This key may include the generic wording Line
n or directly the name of the line, that can be customized in the Mlab Setup section,
as follows. The parameters of the several products must have been previously set
and stored as indicated in the previous item.
3) Check and modify directly, in real time, the operating working parameters of a line,
selecting the push-button Parameters A-D (relative line 1-4 or 5-8 depending of the
line group visualized at that time), placed in the lower part of the panel. The
modifications made using this method are temporarily and will be lost after a power
off of the system or a transmission of a product parameters block.
14.4.2 INFORMATIONS
The push-button Info can be selected to see displayed some technical data about
the hardware and the version of the software installed on the Multilab-IV unit.
On the contrary, that means if the differentiated management of the users wasn’t
enabled on the system, the mentioned above key will appear as disabled, in a light
grey color.
After selecting the desired language: English, French, Italian or Spanish, all
information on all various panels will be visualized in that language (English language
is the default one).
The IB-0X section allows to define which serial port can be used to communicate with
the instruments connected to the system. As predetermined port appears COM1, but
by means of the vertical shifting bars, it will be possible to select other ports from
COM1 to COM20 (if present on the PC).
The following sections called Auxiliary 1 Auxiliary 4, allow to select other serial ports
in order to communicate with the external devices such as PLC or Personal
Computer or, in general, with external data acquisition systems. For what concerns
this specific matter, there is a chapter, dedicated to Data Acquisition, at the end of
this manual.
Once the serial ports which have to be used for the several functionalities are
selected, press the Save key, in order to save the defined settings.
In case the same ports were erroneously selected for different functionalities, an
error message like the following will appear.
At this point change the number of serial ports so that there will be no relationship. In
case the Personal Computer doesn’t have enough ports for the additional
functionalities, select ports which have high numbers (for example COM20-COM19-
COM18 etc.) that will not be used, but will not create a problem for the system.
To be able to use the users management, it is necessary, first of all, to enable this
functionality by means of the following list where the Yes option has to be selected:
Another general option that concerns the users management is the following, and it
concerns the possibility of having a single password request or for each operation:
If the Confirm Password = Yes is selected each critical operation will require the use
of the password in order to make sure that the user that is operating is actually the
one appointed by the administrator.
For each user that is wanted to control, select the box Ab (enabled). A series of keys
and boxes will appear, which have the following meaning and must be correctly set
for each single user:
a. Name: this is the user’s identification name (maximum length = 15 characters)
b. Password: this function allows to define the password which pertains to the user
(maximum length = 10 figures) Caution: the passwords must be different for each
user. In case there are two or more corresponding passwords, the problem will be
notified to the administrator so that he will change them.
c. Level: the selection of the level implies the access or the ban to use some of the
Multilab-IV program’s functionalities:
• LEVEL 1: it allows to make changes inside the simplified use panel of the
Multilab-IV, but it prohibits to change the recipes, the analyzers’ parameters and
to enter in the Mlab Settings.
• LEVEL 2: it allows to make changes on all the system except for the Mlab
Settings section.
• LEVEL 3: it’s the level with the highest privileges and allows the Multilab-IV’s
control, therefore the variation of all the system’s operative parameters, recipes
and settings. Obviously also the level required for the modification of the users.
Once the operation for the attribution of the users, password and use levels is
concluded, press the Save key first and then the Exit one.
After making the required configurations, press the Save in Memory button to save
the selection.
The first setting to make concerns the type of Relay card mounted on the Personal
Computer on which is working the Multilab-IV. For this purpose there is a selection
table in which it is possible to choose between the ISA type Relay Card (old type relay
card for ISA type bus) or PCI (last generation relay card for PCI type bus, generally
used in modern applications).
Once the type of relay card to be used is selected, it is possible to pass to the choice of
the single relay outputs.
Multilab-IV has the possibility to use up to 8 relay contacts enabled by 8 that are fully
configurable. In this panel, the operator has to set the function controlled by every
alarm relay, choosing among:
• High Brix: alarm relay is enabled if the measured value exceeds the Brix high
alarm value.
• Low Brix: alarm relay is enabled if the measured value exceeds the Brix low
alarm value.
• Global Brix: alarm relay is enabled if the measured value exceeds the Brix low or
high alarm.
• High CO2: alarm relay is enabled if the measured value exceeds the CO2 high
alarm value.
• Low CO2: alarm relay is enabled if the measured value exceeds the CO2 low
alarm value.
• Global CO2: alarm relay is enabled if the measured value exceeds the CO2 low
or high alarm.
• High Oxygen: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the high Oxygen alarm
threshold.
• Low Oxygen: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the low Oxygen alarm
threshold.
• Global Oxygen: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the high or low
Oxygen alarm threshold.
• High Conductivity: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the high
Conductivity alarm threshold.
• Low Conductivity: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the low
Conductivity alarm threshold
• Global Conductivity: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the high or low
Conductivity alarm threshold.
• High pH: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the high pH alarm threshold.
• Low pH: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the low pH alarm threshold.
• Global pH: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the high or low pH alarm
threshold.
• Global Line: the alarm is activated if the value exceeds the high or low Brix
and/or CO2 and/or Oxygen and/or pH and/or Conductivity alarm threshold
pertaining to a certain line.
• General: the alarm is activated in case any alarm condition occurs on any line.
• IB alarm: the alarm is activated if there are alarm conditions on the IB-01/IB-04.
After having selected the function, the operator has to set the line (1-8) which the
alarm relay has to control: if it has been selected "General" function, it is not possible
to set the line because they are all automatically selected.
In the right side of the panel, you have finally to choose if the alarm has to be silence
able or not. If you set the alarm as silence able, you can silence it selecting the push-
button Silencer placed in the main panel.
In this reading panel, that means without any modifiable parameter, the operator can
check when and how the calibrations of the concentration analyzers (Brix/%) and CO2
analyzers were made. The calibration list includes, in chronological order, all the
calibrations performed during the last year of activity, and they are automatically
canceled after this interval of time.
The panel is divided in two distinct sections, respectively the one concerning the
concentration measurement, and the one concerning the carbonation measurement.
There is a column that indicates the calibration’s date and time, the line number on
which it was made, the name of the product circulating in the line, the time taken for the
calibration (in case it was a calibration with “Sampling” as afterwards explained), the
type of calibration (1 = Immediate, 2 = with Sampling), the calibration’s result (Y =
successful, N = not performed), the values detected by Maselli units, the values
detected from the lab and their difference. It is also possible to visualize the name of
the user that has carried out the calibration if the control of the users, and the pertaining
identification passwords, have been enabled as indicated in this section of the manual.
Select the OK button to return to the Mlab setting panel.
In this panel it is possible to configure the relative apparatus installed and the
addresses for each line.
For each line a maximum of one Brix measuring instrument and a CO2 measuring
instrument are permitted. For IB series apparatus, the addresses must be between 1
and 8, while, for UR and UC series, it must be between 1 and 32. In any case, the
address must correspond to that programmed in the analyzer. No address is
necessary for connection with Refractometer UR-15 as it only concerns acquisition.
With the Remote silencing option, it is possible to silence, further to the alarms locally
controlled by the Multilab-IV, also the alarms connected to each apparatus. This
functionality is extremely useful in case a centralized control of all the production lines
is required from the lab. On the contrary leave this option disabled.
The Optomux Baud Rate frame allows to set the Baud Rate, that is the speed (9600
Baud pre-defined setting) used for the connection of a data acquisition system by
means of the Optomux protocol (see chapter Data Acquisition).
The Aux Port Protocol frame allows to select the communication protocol used by the
Multilab-IV and available on the auxiliary serial ports, on which the user can interface
external data acquisition systems. (pre-defined setting OPTOMUX protocol).
b. Laboratory Brix: this option indicates whether the measurement system, used for
laboratory comparisons is the refractometric or densimetric type. This setting is used
for the calculation of the product’s Target, and the densimeter or refractometer
setting, affects the type of calculation that has to be made. The formulae and the
calculations made are indicated in detail in the chapter dedicated to Sugar inversion.
c. Touch Screen: This option allows to handle a virtual keyboard, that appears at the
bottom of the screen in case one is working with a screen sensitive to touch (Touch
Screen). Normally leave this option with the Off value.
d. Recipe Control: This option allows to disable or enable the recipe control from the
Multilab-IV side. In case it is required to send the recipes to the analyzers from the
PC that contains the Multilab-IV (predefined option) it is necessary to select the item
MLAB. On the contrary, that means, by selecting item IB, there will be no possibility
to send the recipes to the connected instruments. Normally use the MLAB option.
f. Warning threshold: This value indicated in percentage, is the alarm threshold above
which the advanced diagnostics system entered in the Multilab-IV will supply an
alarm criterion. Predefined value = 70%. In case this warning threshold is exceeded,
the Diagnostics keys, present in the operative panels of the Multilab-IV, will transform
into a Warning, and if they are pressed, it will be possible to enter in detail on the
reasons that have generated the alert status. For further information on the advances
diagnostics possibilities, refer to the chapter dedicated to this matter.
It is subsequently possible to establish the name of the line on which one is working
by means of the Change key, which allows to enter an up to 20 character line
identification, that will automatically appear on the several panels of the Multilab-IV
system.
In the panel called CO2 Cntr. Type, it is possible to indicate if the IB-01-IB-0/IB05 is
working on a saturation or injection CO2 controlled line (if the system doesn’t provide
a CO2 control, it is suggested not to modify the pre-defined setting "carbocooler").
In this panel it is possible to set, for every single line, the wait time for the automatic
calibration phases. With the sliding selectors Wait and Average it is possible to
establish the time, indicated in seconds, both for the wait before carrying out the
calibration and the integration time of the received values that will be used at the end
of the Sampling cycles in order to carry out the calibration itself. These operation are
explained in detail in the chapter that follow.
• In the Wait time, insert the time necessary, for the personnel appointed to the
quality control laboratory’ to reach the production line.
• In the Average time insert a value of some tenths of seconds in which the
Multilab-IV system carries out an average of the values received by the
analyzers, so that for the calibration, it will be possible to use a very reliable value
since it has been averaged in the time.
Once the secrete password is entered, pointed out by some asterisks, for secrecy
reasons, the new user will be recognized and may operate on the system with the
privileges assigned to him:
The panel shows the actual version of Multilab-IV software, the way with which the
system is operating, the RAM memory still available and further it informs if the
system is equipped with a math co-processor.
After consulting the panel, select the button "OK" to come back to the main panel.
The panel on which you are working become flashing: furthermore, the graphic
realization shows all possible ways towards connected panels. The operator, by
evaluating the group of reachable panels, can choose the most appropriate one for
the further operations to be effected.
After finishing the consultation of the help panel, select the push-button "OK" to
return to the main panel.
On startup, the Products panel is displayed as shown in the Figure below; the
subsequent screen pages are displayed according to the type of apparatus/line
selected.
On the left side of the panel it is placed the panel Product Operations, including the
main operations that the Multilab-IV unit can perform with the products; Capture
from IB, Send to IB, New Product, Save on Disk, Recall from Disk, Delete
Product.
When the selection has been made, the Products panel takes on a new form to
display two boxes which were not seen earlier.
The first frame includes the fields Product Name, Number of identification of the
Product and kind of Product.
In order to store in a product block the parameters received from a line, compile this
frame inserting Name and Number with which later the system will have to identify
this product. If a product name and a product number are already present, they can
be used to store the received parameters.
Use the frame IB Product Section placed on the right side of the panel to consult
and eventually modify the values acquired from the line.
This box has specific functions depending on the line selected; the main functions
are described in successive sections in this chapter.
Save the data recalled by the line under form of product by selecting the push-button
Save On Disk. If the push-button Save on Disk is not used (for instance because
the operator only wanted to consult the data without saving them), all the operations
and the eventual modifications done on the parameters will not be stored and will be
lost.
When the selection has been made, the Products panel takes on a new form to
display two boxes which were not seen earlier.
The first frame includes the fields Product Name, Number of Identification of the
Product and Type of Product.
To be able to save the parameters received from a certain line, enter the data the
system will subsequently use for identifying the product. If the name and number
have already been selected, these can be used for saving the new parameters
received.
Use the frame IB Product Section placed on the right side of the panel to consult
and, if necessary, modify the values acquired from the line.
This box has specific functions depending on the line selected; the main functions
are described in successive sections in this chapter.
Save all data set in the previous operations by selecting the push-button Save on
Disk. If the push-button Save on Disk is not used (for instance because the operator
only wanted to consult the data without saving them), all the operations and the
eventual modifications done on the parameters will not be stored and will be lost.
By using the function Listed by order it is possible to visualize the products already
memorized in the program in two ways:
1. in alphabetical order, according to the names of inserted products
2. in numerical order, according to the identification numbers of products; in this
case a series of push-buttons are present in order to facilitate the product number
selection; in groups of 100 products each
When the selection has been made, the Products panel takes on a new form to
display two boxes which were not seen earlier.
The first frame includes the fields Name, Identification Number and Type of the
required product.
Act on this frame only if you want to modify the identification data of the recalled
product, for instance if you need to save the actual parameters with a different name
or ID number.
Use the frame IB Product Section placed on the right side of the panel to visualize
and/or modify all parameters of the recalled product.
This box has specific functions depending on the line selected; the main functions
are described in successive sections in this chapter.
Save the data set by selecting the Save on Disk If the push-button Save on Disk is
not used (for instance because the operator only wanted to consult the data without
saving them), all the operations and the eventual modifications done on the
parameters will not be stored and will be lost.
15.2.4 SEND TO IB
With the function Send to IB, it is possible to transmit from Multilab-IV to the
apparatus, a product to have its parameters become operating in line.
The function Send to IB is allowed and can be selected only if previously a product
was called on the panel by one of the functions: New Product, Capture from IB or
Recall from Disk.
After selecting the push-button Send to IB, the Multilab-IV asks on which line the
parameters of the currently loaded It is necessary to select among the proposed list of
lines:
Set the line on which the product has to be transmitted. If the selected line isn’t on, a
notifying message will appear and it will eventually be necessary to repeat the
operation when the line is turned on again.
By using the function “Listed by order” it is possible to visualize the products already
memorized in the program in two ways:
1. in alphabetical order, according to the names of inserted products
2. in numerical order, according to the identification numbers of products; in this
case a series of push-buttons are present in order to facilitate the product number
selection
Select the required product and act on the OK button to cancel. Multilab-IV will display
this message to confirm:
Confirm the operation with the Si button to cancel the selected product.
The Options frame allows the operator to obtain a printout of the parameters of
already existing products; it allows also to recall or store on disk the existing
parameters database.
The second printed page refers to the values pertaining to the Brix and CO2.
The following panel contains all the groups of recipes; by selecting a group of recipes
with a double click, all the recipes assigned to that group will be displayed. Using the
“Select” button or a double click, the recipe will be retrieved.
Select “Export to” to save, on a hard disk or on a floppy disk, a file with all the
existing products or, select Load From Disk, to recall the products previously saved.
The products are exported and memorized in a “txt” or “xls” format depending on the
settings carried out in the generic settings page.

The panel for the simplified control of the IB-01 is showed as follows:
In the upper area of this panel is visible the product’s name. In the central area the
operator can see the Brix% and the CO2 concentration values received from the
analyzers. The lower part of the panel contains a series of control buttons. The
purpose of this panel is to manage the principal parameters of the production line
which can be accessed by just a few pushbuttons and therefore by means of a
number of operations reduced to the minimum.
It is important to note that by means of the Panel pushbutton it is possible to choose
whether to visualize the panel in complete mode, that is, which includes the direct
calibration Brix and CO2 pushbuttons, or in simplified mode, without the mentioned
above pushbuttons. For the normal use of the simplified panel, it is possible to
choose the Simplified mode. For what concerns the visible displays on this manual,
they were taken in complete mode, in order to give more information possible on the
program’s use.
After the introduction of the new value, Multilab-IV will calculate the needed offset and
will send them to the IB-01/IB-04 unit. After few seconds the display will visualize the
new exact value, aligned with the laboratory analysis.
The CO2 Calibration push-button is used to calibrate directly the CO2 analyzer of the
IB-01/IB-04 system, by introducing the reference value from the laboratory; in this way
Multilab-IV calculate automatically the offset value that must be introduced in the
analyzer without any calculation needed from the operator side.
Pressing this push-button, it will appear a panel in which the operator must introduce
the exact value that the analyzer should read:
After the introduction of the new value, Multilab-IV will calculate the needed offset and
will send them to the IB-01/IB-04 unit. After few seconds the display will visualize the
new exact value, aligned with the laboratory analysis.
The Syrup Value button is used to call up the relative control panel for setting and
printing off the syrup concentration value.
A new calibration concept called Sampling was introduced in order to simplify the
Multilab-IV’s alignment with the laboratory.
This type of calibration, more evolved than the previous ones, allows to calibrate the
instruments in synchronism with the line, even after a certain time which is normally
necessary for the lab’s chemical-physical analyses performance, avoiding in this way to
introduce errors due to the fact that the analyzers were calibrated considering the value
of a sample drawn from the line some minutes before and therefore no longer
belonging to the product actually flowing in the pipe.
Practically, this type of calibration is made by means of a real and proper cycle,
independent for each measurement line (it is possible to perform up to 8 calibrations in
a totally asynchronous way) according to the following events:
1) Beginning of the calibration.
2) Waiting time. This time, that can be set from the Multilab-IV system’s setting panel,
represents the time in seconds that is almost necessary for the laboratory’s
operator to reach the production line and take the samples that have to be
measured.
3) Integration time, necessary to obtain a more accurate and stable reference
measurement.
4) Reference result wait. This wait can be also very long since the values measured by
the system are stored in a temporary memory.
5) Entering of the reference values measured in the lab.
6) Decision on the calibration’s result. In case the detected differences are too high, a
further inspection of the values is required, there for in this phase it is possible to
decide if to effectively perform the calibration or to not accept the measured and
entered values.
7) End of the calibration. The measurement instruments are therefore instantly aligned
with the analyses carried out in the laboratory.
To start the Sampling procedure press the pertaining button present in the middle of the
simplified panel.
Instantly the writing on the button will change and the Wait message will be displayed
to indicate that the system is waiting for the interval of time required by the operator to
reach the production line.
At the end of the waiting time, the writing on the button will change again to indicate
that the system is performing the integrations on the concentration and carbonation
measurements.
At the end of the waiting time, the writing on the button will become Lab Value, to
indicate the end of the sampling and the wait for the analysis values that have to be
provided by the lab.
At this point, by pressing the Lab Value button a window will appear requiring the
concentration value measured by the laboratory as shown in the following picture:
Choosing the Cancel button, it is possible to avoid entering the data pertaining to the
concentration, for example, in case it is wanted to perform only the CO2 analyzers
calibration, or in case the lab isn’t able to provide a reliable value. Normally it is
necessary to enter the concentration value and press OK to confirm. A summarizing
window is therefore obtained; this displays the value measured by the Maselli
instruments, the value measured by the laboratory and their difference. The operator
can now calibrate by pressing button Yes, or abandon the calibration with button No.
The same sequence is then repeated for what concerns the calibration of the CO2
analyzers. In fact they are the following windows are displayed in sequence.
A window will appear requiring the CO2 value measured by the lab as shown in the
following picture:
Choosing the Cancel button, it is possible to avoid entering the CO2 data if, for
example, it is required to perform only the calibration of the concentration measurers, or
in case the lab isn’t able to supply a reliable value. Normally it is required to enter the
CO2 value and to press OK to confirm. A summarizing window will then appear showing
the value measured by the Maselli instruments, the value measured by the lab and their
difference. The operator may now calibrate by pressing button Yes or abandon the
calibration with button NO.
At the end of these operations it will be possible to have the perfect alignment between
the Maselli instruments and the laboratory.
With the Line Status function it is possible to enable or disable the Line Stop signal
handled by the IB-01 unit, that can be useful to disable in case the pre-production or
post-production phases need to be controlled; for example, to visualize the analyzers’
status during the washing or during the passage of the so-called production queue,
between a product and the one that follows, that normally can’t be seen and measured.
With the Alarms Output function, it is possible to locally disable the control of the
alarms, therefore, only on the Multilab-IV system, for a specific line. At the pushbutton’s
subsequent pressure it is possible to re-enable the original control of the alarms.
With the Save Param. On Recipe function, it is possible to update the current recipe, in
case variations were made on parameters contained in it (for example the alarms’
value) and it is wanted to keep these variation memorized for a further use. In case no
recipe has still been sent to the line, the pushbutton will appear as disabled. In case no
parameter was changed compared to the original recipe, the operator will be advised
by a warning message, since the updating will not be required.
With the Send Product function, it is possible to sent a recipe, that is a set of
parameters to the IB-01 unit, as indicated in the chapter concerning the products
control. If the Send Product key is pressed, a selection window like the following one,
will open, in which it is possible to choose a set of product parameters to be used,
among those already stored:
With the "Listed by order" it is possible to list, in two different ways, the products
already stored in the program:
a) in alphabetical order according to the product’s name
b) in numerical order, according to the product’s identification number; in this case
there is a series of buttons to facilitate the choice of the product’s number, reachable in
groups of 100 products each.
Once the product that has to be sent in the line has been selected, press the Select
push-button, or to end the operation without any enter, press the Cancel button.
If a Diet product has been selected, Multilab-IV will arrange the automatic switch of the
analyzer in the Standard/% measure range without any operation by the operator side;
further there is no limitation about the current measuring range (like with the other
method described in the previous chapter), so it is possible to send parameters product
also when the IB-01 was already running with the Standard/% range.
With the Next Line or Previous Line pushbuttons, it is possible to go to the simplified
control of the following or previous line, among those enabled in cyclical way inside the
system, till the starting line on which one was initially working is reached again. The
lines which aren’t enabled are automatically skipped.
To exit from this panel the operator must press the push-button labeled Main. Multilab-
IV will return back in the Main panel.
In the upper area of this panel is visible the product’s name, the central area contains
fields for displaying and calibrating the values given by the analysis units whilst a
series of control buttons is found in the lower section of the panel. The purpose of
this panel is to manage the principal parameters of the production line which can be
accessed by just a few pushbuttons and therefore by means of a number of
operations reduced to the minimum.
For what concerns the visible displays on this manual, they were taken in complete

After the introduction of the new value, Multilab-IV will calculate the needed offset and
will send them to the IB-04/IB-05 unit. After few seconds the display will visualize the
new exact value, aligned with the laboratory analysis.
The Alc. We. Calib. button is used for calibrating the Alcohol Weight parameter. It is
necessary to carry out calibration with one value, if the system is installed on a line
producing alcoholic beverages, and with two values if the system is installed on a line
producing beer.
When calibrating with two values it is necessary to set a parameter selected from
Alcohol Volume - Alcohol Weight - Plato - Extract. The correction effects the
Refractometric Zero and the Sonic Zero values.
Selecting this type of calibration, a panel appears in which the operator must enter
the values given by the Laboratory.
The Inversion button is used to call up the relative control panel for setting and
printing off the syrup concentration value.
Choosing the Cancel button, it is possible to avoid entering the data pertaining to the

alarms, therefore, only on the Multilab-IV system, for a specific line. At the pushbutton’s
subsequent pressure it is possible to re-enable the original control of the alarms.
With the Param. Saving In Recipe Save Param. On Recipe function, it is possible to
update the current recipe, in case variations were made on parameters contained in it
(for example the alarms’ value) and it is wanted to keep these variation memorized for
a further use. In case no recipe has still been sent to the line, the pushbutton will
appear as disabled. In case no parameter was changed compared to the original
recipe, the operator will be advised by a warning message, since the updating will not
be required.
With the Send Product function, it is possible to sent a recipe, that is a set of

18.3 ADDRESSING
Multilab-IV is able to decode a series of commands to read a value or series of
values inside the instrument. These values can be either analog or digital, and are
listed in the following tables.
For each different production (Brix, Regular, Diet Brix or Standard %), you have to
use the specific start and end values. First of all request the digital values of a line: in
this way you can understand the kind of production and request the desired values of
that line.

Before analyzing the answer which Multilab-IV will give, let us first study a generic
Optomux response to a request for N different analog values
Axxxxyyyywwww .... nnnnkk<cr>
where:
A Start answer character.
xxxx
yyyy N 4-digit hexadecimal answer values to the request.
wwww
nnnn last requested value. (n = 0-15).
kk Checksum of the string starting from the first character after the start answer
character A until the last character of the last transmitted value.
<cr> "Carriage return" character (ASCII 13).
In the specific case of the previous example, in which the request for the analog
value in position 15 of the second page of values of line 1 is effected, the answer
string might be the following one:
A1800C9<cr>
where:
A Start answer character.
1800 Hexadecimal data value answer to the request.
C9 Checksum of the string starting from the first character after letter A and
ending with the last character of the last transmitted value.
<cr> "Carriage return" character (ASCII 13).
After having decoded the received string, it is necessary to convert the data value in
terms of its start and end range, as reported in previous tables, using the formula:
examined variable, as reported in the tables of the previous section, we can obtain
the following result:
Axxxxkk<cr>
where:
A Start answer character.
xxxx All the answer values on the value page to which the request refers
kk Checksum of the string Axxxx string starting from character A and ending
with last value sent character.
<cr> "Carriage return" character (ASCII 13).
In the specific case of the previous example, which requested the digital values of
line 1, the answer string might be the following:
A1BA4E8<cr>
pos.15 pos.0
After the conversion into the binary form, the received bits must be interpreted as
values inserted in the requested page as previously described in Table 4 of the
previous section. From this table we can see that if, for example, the bit 15 ("Pump
Status") is set to 0, the value coupled to it "OFF". If the bit 12 is = 1, then the "CO2
Alarms" value is in "On" mode.
The resulting table of the received values from the previous example can be
summarized as follows:

The answer given by the Multilab-IV will be a string of ASCII characters with a global
length of 236 characters, ending with the sequence <CR><LF> (that is, Carriage

is determined by the need of this manual but, really, there are no separators or new
paragraph starts, except for at the end of the string itself):

To correctly understand the indicated string please consider the following notes:
The lines that follow are used to point out the position of each one of the 236
characters of which the string is composed, numbering the position itself, the first line of
which corresponds to the hundreds, the second to the tenths and the third to the units.
In case the numbers haven’t reached the tenth, the visualized line will only include the
units, while the remaining ones will be hidden. The same thing for the numbers lower
than a hundred, for which, the hundreds line will, in that case, be hidden.

20. DIAGNOSTICS
20.1 DIAGNOSTICS
This chapter describes the improved possibilities of diagnosis on the system, entered
with the latest Multilab-IV releases. The Diagnostics section is available only on the
lines on which an IB-04 type second generation,IB-04, IB-05, UR-22, UC-05,
UR20.on-line analysis system is mounted. In case of an IB-01 instead, the
diagnostics and the pertaining keys for its switch-on will be rendered invisible.
ZERO BRIX
The percentage value is connected to the absolute value (Regular productions) of the
zero correction of the refractometric unit UR-21. Very high values indicate that, since
the initial calibration, the instrument had a shift and that it could, therefore, be in a
drifting phase.
ZERO CO2
The percentage value is connected to the absolute value of the of the UCXX
carbometric unit’s zero correction. Very high values indicate that, since the initial
calibration, the instrument had a shift and that it could, therefore, be in a drifting phase.
The grey round crown of the graphic representation, indicates the optimal operation
band. The lines should remain inside this band. The band’s low limit can be set in the
Setup panel (Default value = 70%). If one or more control parameters exceed the round
crown, a “Warning” condition is activated.
In this way, a diagnostic section will be visualized, specific for the UR-21 refractometer
as shown in the following picture:
In this specific section for the refractometer, it is possible to visualize the image coming
from the UR21’s CCD, updated in real time, and the absolute values of the most
significant optical parameters, which are:
• Maximum detected derivative
• Led Performance
• Brix Zero value
• Number of Brix Calibrations for each production, performed in the last 4 hours
In this way, a diagnostic section will be visualized, specific for the UC-04 carbometric
unit as shown in the following picture:
In this specific section, it is possible for the carbometric unit to visualize the graphic
performance of the pressure measured inside the UC04’s measurement cell, further to
the absolute values of the most significant parameters, which are:
• Difference between the Line Pressure and the Minimum Pressure of the UC-04
cycle
• CO2 Zero Value
• Number of CO2 Calibrations for each production, performed in the last 4 hours
In this way, a diagnostic section will be visualized, specific for the sensors as shown in
the following picture:
This section visualizes the values measured by the different sensors present in the
system, and their values are translated into the respective measurement units selected
in the Multilab-IV Setup panel.
• value of the temperature sensor located on the UR-21
• value of the temperature sensor situated on the UC-04
• temperature difference between the two sensors
• value of the pressure sensor located on the UR-21
• value of the pressure sensor located on the UC-04
• pressure difference between the two sensors
• value of the Humidity sensor
In this specific section for the refractometer, it is possible to visualize the image coming
from the UR-20/22’s CCD updated in real time, and the absolute values of the most
significant optical parameters, which are:
• Maximum detected derivative
• Led Performance
• Brix Zero value
• Number of Brix Calibrations for each production, performed in the last 4 hours
• For the UR-22 Refractometric Unit a value is displayed for the interior humidity level
20.5 PRINT
In the diagnostics panel is enabled a print pushbutton, that generates a report that can
be printed with graphics and numbers, summarizing and inclusive of all the operation
parameters of the IB-04 system. Following is shown an example of a print report
obtained by the Multilab-IV Diagnostics.
The setting panel of the reference values for the percentage calculation will be
activated as shown in the following picture:
On the panel’s left appear as optimal the used parameters values, while on the right
appear the values of the same parameters in real time. To include a certain value in the
percentage calculation, it is necessary to click on the pertaining “incl” box. After the
calculation is enabled, it is possible to set the optimal value for that parameter by
pressing the Change key.
Afterwards, the operator will have to enter the desired reference value, that will
correspond to the 100% of the variable in exam:
For what concerns the “Brix Calibration” and “CO2 Calibration” parameters, it is
only possible to reset their value by pressing the Reset pushbutton since an ideal
comparison value doesn’t exist for them.
In case the instrument is perfectly working and wanting to use the current values as
ideal parameters, it will be possible to act on the pushbutton called “Set the value
on the line as optimal values”.
Instead, if wanting to set again in the Multilab-IV system the predefined optimal
values, it is sufficient to press the pushbutton called “Default Value.”.
At the end of the settings, it is necessary to press the “Save” key, so that the
modifications performed will be stored in the system’s memory.
To end the reference parameters setting phase, press the “Exit” key.
Inside the Multilab-IV Setting panel there is a frame Brix di Lab. which allows to select:
The second parameter that has to be determined is the desired dilution ratio, i.e. the
ratio between the syrup concentrate and water, that can be set both in the Recipe
Management panel, and in the real time operation panel.
The predetermined value for the desired dilution ratio that can be set both in the
Recipe Management panel, and in the real time operation panel.
The predetermined value for the dilution ratio, in case new recipes are created, was
fixed at 5.4, and it can freely be changed.
It will be necessary to act on the key called Syrup Value. that allows to introduce the
value of the concentrated syrup measured in the Lab, according to the previously
defined modalities (Refractometric or Densimetric). A panel will be displayed where the
Brix value of the concentrated syrup is inserted.
The value proposed by the Multilab-IV in the panel is the theoretical one, calculated
with the Dilution Ratio and Brix Target values, set in the recipe in use. At this point the
operator will have to:
1) Select the box called Fresh Syrup, since the first value that has to be inserted will
be the starting-point for the calculations that follow
2) Insert the value for the fresh syrup, according to these modalities:
a. In case the proposed value is correct, it is necessary to confirm the value with
the OK key.
b. In case there is a discrepancy between the proposed value and the measured
one, due to the wrong value assigned to the dilution ratio in the recipe, or to a
syrup with different characteristics compared to the considered one, set the new
value that has to be used for the fresh concentrated syrup.
A confirming message, concerning the new inserted values, will appear in order to
avoid digitation mistakes:
If the “NO” key is pressed, all the data insertion procedure is ended without any
variation being recorded, while if the “Yes” key is pressed, a mask will appear requiring
the Tank’s identification. All the data pertaining to sugar inversion are in fact recorded
on a local database.
After the tank’s identification code has been inserted, it will be necessary to insert also
the Brix Target. The predetermined value for the Target is the one stored in the
parameters of the recipe which is being use:
Once the Brix Target’s value is confirmed, a further summarizing mask will appear,
indicating the correct dilution ratio that has to be used for the current recipe and the
calculation that will follow:
As usual the new inserted value has to be confirmed in order to avoid digitations
mistakes:
After the Yes key is pressed, will be performed the correction of the Brix Target and
Brix Zero parameters pertaining to the refractometer, that will be visualized, on a
summarized timetable, as shown in the following figure:
At this point, in case the syrup keeps inverting, it is possible to insert other syrup
concentration values, and the Multilab-IV system will continue to correct the Brix
Target and the Brix Zero, as just indicated.
If carrying on, as already shown at the beginning of the charter, in sequence will appear
the introduction mask, of the identification of the new Tank, the confirmation mask and
the Brix Target and Brix Zero values will be again recalculated.
In case a new recipe is sent to the IB-01/IB-04 system, the eventual Brix Zero and
Brix Target corrections made due to the Sugar inversion, will be cancelled.
