Mains preparation.

Preparing for Mains is like participating in a marathon. The duration is long,

almost 4 months. Your motivation level on the first day and the last day should
be same and high on average. There is a lot of stress and frustration. So you need

a stress buster, a hobby. Mine was to listen to music and if alone to sing along as
well. Just make sure that 90% of your time is devoted to studying.

subjects. Now you need to build on that with practice. The procedure is the same topics
as in Prelims. Start with previous year questions and keep on revising. Join a

test series and sincerely attempt all the tests - even if you have not prepared good answers
for them.

I bought ESE, CSE and IFS previous year both solved and unsolved books. Select question

a subject. Start with ESE in first revision. Add CSE and IFS questions in the next Add 3 credentials
revision. Mark all tough questions. Practice them thoroughly in the next round.
Answer a question
Go on attempting questions always first without assistance. In Mains, you have

to write. Solve each question till the final answer with proper steps. This would number
give you enough practice of writing and also will help you develop the knack to
solve quickly.

Revision is the key to cracking this exam.

You should at least revise thrice before the exam and it should finish 15 days
prior to the exam. No matter how well you have understood the concept, you are
bound to forget it in 10–15 days. Revision helps the concepts stay fresh in your
memory. The last 15 days should be relaxed with oral revision of all the notes,
concepts and test series questions.

To ensure that all subjects are covered, make a stack of all your notes subject
wise. The subject that you have not revised in a while, its notes will be always at
the bottom of the stack if you put your notes at the top each night like me.

During Exam, Question Selection is the most important step

The question paper consists of 2 sections. Section 1 has 5 questions. Section 2 has
3 questions. You have to attempt 5 questions in total. The first question of each
section is compulsory. Additionally, you have to attempt at least one question of
Feed each section. So there is a lot of margin. Take at least 10 minutes in the
beginning to select questions.

tests. So join a test series. Attempt each paper as seriously as the real one. In the

Use Bullet points. Don’t write long paragraphs.

No need to derive each and every formula that you use. Judge the extent

Requirement of writing Given, to find and assumptions also depends on

a plus point.
