Accessing Accessibility Features

Step 1: Go to Settings Step 2: Go to Accessibility Step 3: Choose what


accessibility features you
want to utilize!! There are
so many to choose from.
In this presentation, we
will go over Siri, Zoom,
Display and Text Size,
Closed Captions and
Subtitles, and Assistive
Touch!
Siri
● Siri is your virtual assistant!
● She can
○ Answer questions
○ Tell you the weather
○ Respond the text message
○ Launch apps
○ Set a date in your calendar
○ Translate
○ Make calls
● Siri is a great resource for those who struggle to
type and read
● There are two simple ways to access Siri
○ Say “Hey Siri” and she will respond
○ Press and hold on the lock button
Siri

To access Siri, Once there, you can


go to Settings, set your preferences
and then scroll for Siri. You can
down until you change the voice,
language, when Siri
see Siri &
will be activated, and
Search whether or not you
want Siri to announce
incoming messages.
Zoom

● Zoom allows us to make the screen bigger


● To access Zoom
○ Go to Settings
○ Accessibility
○ Select Zoom
Zoom ON POSITION

● Make sure Zoom is turned on by ensuring


that the switch is in the on position
● To use zoom once it has been activated
○ Double tap three fingers to zoom
○ Drag three fingers to move around the screen
○ Double tap three fingers and drag to change
zoom
● Zoom can be daunting when using for the
first time, so play around with it to feel
more comfortable.
Display and Text Size
● To access this feature, go to
Settings, Accessibility, and then
select Display and Text Size
● Once you have selected this, being
to explore all of the features,
including
○ Bold text
○ Larger text
○ Button shapes
○ On/off labels
○ Auto-Brightness
○ Transparency
○ Color Filters and Invert
Display and Text Size
● Features including
○ Bold text
■ This makes the font thicker and easier to read
○ Larger text
■ Allows the user to increase the size of the font
to make reading it easy
○ Color filters and invert
■ Can be used to differentiate colors by users
who are color blind and aid users who have
difficulty reading text on the display
○ Auto-brightness
■ Saves your battery life and it adjusts the
screen’s brightness to give you the best
visibility possible
Closed Captions and Subtitles

● To access this feature, go to


Settings, Accessibility, scroll
Down to the Hearing section,
and select Subtitles &
Captioning
● When turned on, this feature will
display closed captions or
subtitles at the bottom of videos
● This is great for the deaf or hard
of hearing!!

● This is what they look like on a video


● You can customize your subtitles by
○ Changing the background
○ Increasing the font size
○ Creating a brand new style
○ Outlining the text
● All of these features make this an excellent
tool for those who struggle to hear
Assistive Touch

● To access this feature go


to Settings, Accessibility,
go to the Physical and
Motor section, select STEP 1
touch, and then select
AssistiveTouch
Assistive Touch

● This feature allows you to use your iPhone if you have difficulty touching the
screen, or if you need an adaptive accessory
● When activated, this feature will display a circular white and black button on
your screen
● You can customize this button to meet your needs, making this an amazing
accessibility feature for those who need help touching the screen

● When activated, this what you see on


your screen once you have tapped the
button
● You can access Siri, your notifications,
return to the homescreen, and access
your control screen all through this
button
● This reduce the amount of swiping that
needs to be done to access these
features, and replaces it with touching

● iPhones are an incredible way to
make information more accessible to
users through Siri, Zoom, Display and
Text size, Closed Captions and
Subtitles, and Assistive Touch
● Although this presentation discussed
five ways to make use of the iPhone,
there are a myriad of other ways, so
never stop exploring what your
devices can do!
