COMMAND DIRECTION FORM (ICS FORM 202a)

Purpose: The Command Direction form supplements the ICS 202 form by documenting the SMEEC/ IC
strategic direction and guidance through Key Decisions/Procedures, Priorities and
Limitations/Constraints for use during the next operational period.

Preparation: The Command Direction form is completed by the Planning Section and approved by the
SMEEC/ IC at the SMEEC/ IC Objectives Meeting. The form aids with Command Direction for
the IC Daily Guidance Meeting and when preparing the Incident Action Plan.

Distribution: The Command Direction form may be included with the IAP and given to all supervisory
personnel at the Section, Branch, Division/Group, and Unit levels.

Item Title Instructions


Version # Enter the version number for the form.
Incident Name Enter the name assigned to the incident.
Operational Period Enter the Operational Period for which the form applies with Time (24 hr) and Date
(DD MMM YY). For example, 0800 15 Oct 19 to 0800 16 Oct 19.
Priorities Enter clear, concise statements of strategic direction for managing the response. These
priorities are for the incident response for this operational period and for the duration of
the incident. Listed in order of importance.
Limitations and Enter clear, concise Limitations (must do) and Constraints (must not do) that are agreed
Constraints upon by the SMEEC and IC.
Key Decisions Enter operational guiding measures from the SMEEC and IC. Provide and Procedures
IMT process guidance for delegation of authority, agency cooperation, cost sharing,
resource ordering and other administrative guidance.
Approved By Enter the signature and date of approving parties.
Prepared by Enter name of the person preparing the form. Enter time (24 hr) and date
(DD MMM YY).
