winning the rook.

2 1.f6! Bxf6 (if 1…gxf6 2.Bxe7 Qxe7 3.Qg4+ Kh8 4.Qf5 and mate on h7) 2.Bxe7
Bxe7 3.Qe4 with a double attack on e7 and h7. White wins a piece.

3 Again 12.Bxh7+! is a winning sacrifice Kxh7 13.Qh5+ Kg8 14.Nf3 f6 (see next
puzzle).

4 1.Bf5! Black (Kasparov) couldn’t find a defense and gave up his Queen with
1…exf5 (if 1…Nc7 2.Bxc7 Kxc7 3.Rxe6+-)2.Rxe7 Bxe7 3.c4! opening lines against
the King. Black resigned.

5 1.Ng5!! hxg5 (if 1…bxc5 2.Bh7+ Kh8 3.Bg8!) 2.Bh7+ Kh8 (Kf7 3.hxg5+-) 3.Rxg4
gxh4 4.Nf3! g5 (see next question).

6 Another sacrifice 1.Nxg5!! Bxg5 2.f4 Nf6 (if 2…Bf6 3.Qg6 Qe7 4.Rhxh4+! Bxh4
5.Bg8!! winning) 3.Rxg5 Nxh7 (see next question).

5.Kh2 Qh1+ 6.Kg3 Qg2+ 7.Kf4 Qg3 mate.

9 1.Nxg7! destroys the King position. The game continued 1…Qd8 but after
2.Ngf5 the White attack is decisive. If 1…Kxg7 2.Nf5 winning or 1…Nxd3 2.Rxd3
Qd8 3.Bg5.

10 Another sacrifice 1.Nxg5! hxg5 2.Bxg5 with the idea Rf3-Rg3 gives White a
decisive attack.
