Special Feature
Co-operative Type Block Instrument.
Single line Block Instrument
It is Token less type Block Instrument.
Authority to Proceed is OFF aspect of the LSS.
Block instrument either works on CF of 2700Hz or 1800Hz.
Modulating frequency of 65Hz, 85Hz and DC supply +Ve, -Ve
online is used for different codes.
Overhauling period is 7 years.
It can be used in Non-RE as well as RE area.
It is used for Single line Block Section and Twin Single line.
When train enters in Block section at TSS, automatically TOL

Power Supply
There are Four sets of batteries required namely Line Battery,
Local Battery, External Battery and Telephone Battery.
1. Line battery :(DC-DC converter or Dual bank battery).
Voltage is depending on the length of the block section and
gives a working current of 110 mA on line.
2. Local battery : It is of 24.0 V and is used for giving the supply
to the transmitter and receiver and also operating relays,
indicators, lock magnet etc. of the instrument. Secondary
cells or DC-DC converters are generally used.
3. External Battery: It is of 24.0V, used to repeat the external
conditions to the instruments according to the requirements
of the circuits.
4. Telephone Battery: It is of 4.0V, used for block telephone.
Generally Dual bank battery or dry cells or DC-DC converter
is used.

PARTS
1. Galvanoscope: This indicates direction of
incoming and outgoing line currents. The
resistance of the coil is 18.2 Ohms.
2. Time Release Indicator: Normally the
indicator displays white with caption
"Locked" and changes over to green with
caption "Free“ operated. The resistance of
the coil is 200 Ohms (SWG 35, 4950 Turns).
3. S1 Switch with counter: It is used for
Normal cancellation. The counter registers
the numbers of such operations.
4. S2 Switch with counter: It is used for
Push Back cancellation. The counter
registers the numbers of such operations. 10
PARTS
5. TOL Indicator: It is a latch type indicator having two
number of coil Reverse coil (500Ω) (SWG 39, 6040 Turns)
and Normal coil (200Ω) (SWG 36, 4500 Turns). This
indicator displays a white indication when supply is given
to Normal coil and displays red indication with caption
"Train on Line" when supply is given to Reverse coil.
6. PB1: Push button1 This is a push button used to transmit
DC pulses for exchanging bell code signals.
It used to acknowledge TOL Buzzer.
It used to Press along with PB2 for extending co-operation.
11
PARTS
7. PB2: Push button2 This is a push button Pressed
along with PB1 for extending co-operation.
8. Operating Handle: It have three position ‘Line Close’ (N),
‘Train Going To’ (L) and ‘Train Coming From’ (R) position.
Contact positions of the handle are shown below.
12
PARTS
Operating Handle(O.H.) is free to be turned between
(X and Y), (R and D) and (L and B). Operation of O.H. is
controlled by an electrical lock.
13
PARTS
Lock notch are available at ‘Y’ ‘D’ ‘X’ ‘X'’ and ‘B’
Position. When O.H. is turned from ‘LC’ to ‘TCF’ lock is
effective at ‘Y’. When turned from ‘TCF’ to ‘LC’ lock is
effective at ‘D’. When turned from ‘LC’ to ‘TGT’ lock is
effective at ‘X’ and ‘X'’. When turned from ‘TGT’ to ‘LC’
lock is effective at ‘B’. Locking at ‘X'’ is called check lock
and provided to ensure conscious operation.
The block handle assembly consists of 24 pair of spring
contacts which actuate during the course of handle
operation.
‘M’ lock Coil Resistance is 310Ω. (SWG 32, 10800 Turns)
14
PARTS
9. Single Stroke bell: This is mounted on top of the
instrument and is used for receiving bell code
signals. The bell coil is wound to a resistance of
310 ohms and requires about 70 mA for
operation.
15
PARTS
11. SM's Key: It is provided to prove authorized operation
of B/I. When key is removed it locks S1, S2 switch and
shunt key mechanically and the instrument will be
in-operative for all functions except for the reception of
bell code signal or reception and transmission of TOL
code.
17
PARTS
13. Transmitter: This gives a frequency modulated output
when the DC feed is connected to the transmitter.
Based on the loop between 5&6 or 5&7 MF of 85Hz or
65Hz is selected. Loop completed through the relevant
selection according to the condition of the Block
Instrument.
18
PARTS
Transmitter
Level Adjust Switch: It is a three position switch low (1mW),
medium (3mW), and high (5mW) associated with the
transmitter. The level of the signal output of the
transmitter can be adjusted by this.
Impedance Switch: This is a switch having two positions.
600Ω and 1120Ω. Switch is kept in 600Ω B/I works on
arial line and 1120Ω when works on Quad cable. Some
make is going to have three position 600Ω, 1120Ω and
1300Ω. It is used for proper impedance matching.
19
PARTS
14. Receiver: It receives the FM signals
transmitted from the other end
and gives DC output for energizing
either CR1 or CR2 depending on
the modulating frequency of the
code received. The receiver supply
through the relevant selections.
20
PARTS
Receiver
Impedance Switch: Just like Transmitter it also have
impedance switch two positions. 600Ω and 1120Ω.
Switch is kept in when 600Ω B/I works on arial line and
1120Ω when works on Quad cable. Some make is going
to have three position 600Ω, 1120Ω and 1300Ω. It is
used for proper impedance matching.
21
PARTS
15. Telephone: It is used for communication purpose.
16. Double lock & key: It is provided so that no person can
open the B/I (except S&T Official with consent of SM.)
17. Turn Table: It is used turn B/I for maintenance and For
attending failure.
18. Terminal Board: It is used termination of wiring.
Block Counter: It is used as a Base of B/I and house
terminals for interconnection between B/I and Relay
Room.
