Lecture 1 PDF

This document appears to be the introduction to lecture notes on quantum field theory by Sidney Coleman. The first chapter discusses units, translational invariance, rotational invariance, and Lorentz invariance for a single free particle. The introduction notes that relativistic quantum mechanics has a reputation for difficulty, and will address why this is the case before getting into technical details.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
This is Physics 253, course in Relativistic Quantum Mechanics. The subject
of this course is Relativistic Quantum Mechanics. This is the subject that
has notorious reputation for difficulty and indeed as the course progresses
you will see this reputation is well deserved. The first question that I should
address before I get into any technical details is why is it difficult?
