1. See the vocabulary on page 36, search for the meaning and make
sentences with them.
Snow and Ice
 Blizzard/snowstorm is a very heavy fall of snow, usually when there is
also a strong wind blowing at the same time.

o Sentence: Yesterday in California was a great snowstorm.

 Hail: pellets of frozen rain which fall in showers from cumulonimbus


clouds.

o Sentence: The news had said tomorrow will fall hail at night.

 Sleet: rain containing some ice, as when snow melts as it falls.

o Sentence: The water falls back to the earth as rain, snow, sleet, or
hail.

Wind
 Tornado: is a violent rotating column of air extending from a
thunderstorm to the ground.

o Sentence: A tornado has devastated some Dominican Republic's


provinces.

 Gale: is a strong wind, typically used as a descriptor in nautical contexts.


o Sentence:

 Breeze: is a gentle wind.

o Sentence: when I go to the beach, I can feel the breeze.

Rain
 Storm: a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and
usually rain, thunder, lightning, or snow.

o Sentence: Maria was a storm that devastated Puerto Rico.

 Flood(floo): is an overflow of water that submerges land that is usually


dry.
o Sentence: One years ago, a storm caused flooding in five
Dominican Republic's province.

 Heavy rain: It is defined as rainfall greater than 100 millimeter in 24


hours.

o Sentence: Heavy rains caused flooding in some areas of the


Florida coast.

 Shower: Showers, also known as rain showers, have a shorter duration


than rain.

o Sentence: Juan is waiting for the shower to stop to go to school.

 Drizzle (drizol): light rain falling in very fine drops.

o Sentence: It was a drizle yesterday morning.

Sun and Clouds


 Sunshine: direct sunlight unbroken by cloud, especially over a
comparatively large area.

o Sentence: This room gets sunshine.

 Sunny spells: is when the sun shines through the clouds before or after
rain making it seems like Jesus is descending upon us.

o Sentence: I like sunny spells because I think are beautiful.

 Light clouds: Iridescent clouds are a diffraction phenomenon caused by


small water droplets or small ice crystals individually scattering light.

o Sentence: No rain but there were some light clouds.

 Heavy clouds: clouds that look dark and grey as though it will soon rain.
o Sentence: Dark and heavy clouds were in the sky.

2. Study the chart on page 37.


Will (future simple) is used to express future intentions that are decided at the
time of speaking (spontaneous offers, promises and decisions):
Come on, I'll help you with those bags.
Will (future simple) is used to make predictions that are based on personal
judgement, opinion, or intuition.
I'm sure you'll have a lovely time in Italy.
Be going to refers to future intentions that have been decided but have not been
fully planned:

We're going to get married. (referring to a past decision)


The present continuous tense refers to fixed future events and emphasizes that
plans or arrangements have already been made:

We are getting married next month. (the wedding has already been
arranged)

3. Organize and plan you one-week vacation (place, when, activities).

My vacation in New York.


Every day in the morning I will get up at 8:00 AM and go to bed at
12:00 AM. I will go to Macdonnals from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
On days 1 and 3, from 2 PM to 7 PM, I will go to Central Park with
my cousin Rosalía to take photos and pignic.
On day 2 we will go to the pizzeria from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
On the 4th we will go to Brodway at night to take pictures.
On the 5th we will go to visit Cinthia the full day to go shopping for
clothes.
On the 6th we will go to Times Square at night.
On day 7 I will buy gifts for my family and friends in the afternoon
and at night I will return to the Dominican Republic.
