Quadratic Graphs

- Quadratic graphs are produced when expressions of the form y=ax^2+bx+c are plotted. - The graph will be parabolic in shape. If a>0, the curve is open upwards. If a<0, the curve is an inverted U-shape. - To solve quadratic equations graphically, the graph of the quadratic expression is drawn. The solutions are the x-intercepts where the graph crosses the x-axis at y=0.

Quadratic

graphs
Expressions of
the
type y=ax4bxtc are called quadratics
when
they are
plotted they produce parabolas .

the curve is -

If Oko ,
the curve is an inverted U shape .

Answers
First make a
table ,
as shown below .

Now draw axes ,
with -3 Ex E3

and 0
EYE 9 , plot the
points and
join :

them to make a smooth curve .

This is the graph

of y=x
This
type of graph is called • •

parabola

Example 2

Use the graph of y = E- 5×+4 to solve the equation :

To
find the solutions the equation need to out the values
of you find X

you should focus your attention points

Show on

These
points are the
points where the graph crosses the x -
axis .

The solutions are the x -

intercepts .

the solutions
Therefore are x=t and x -4
