About this guide

You can use the transport buttons on your MPC Renaissance or MPC Studio to send
MMC (Midi Machine Control) messages from the MPC plugin to other software
running on your computer.
For example, you can control the Pro Tools transport directly from your MPC
hardware control surface.
MPC Plugin MMC Controller Setup 1
This short guide explains how to set up MMC control on your computer.

NOTE
MMC controls are provided in addition to MIDI control change communication
which is described in the MPC Reference Manual.

NOTE
This only applies to MPC when running as a plugin. MMC control is not generated by
the standalone application.

Setting up your computer

The first step is to configure your computer to work with MMC.
Please read the appropriate section below:
◾ Mac OS MMC setup
◾ Windows MMC setup

Mac OS MMC setup

Shut down your DAW, and ensure that you are not running the MPC software.
Open the Audio MIDI Setup application, which can be found in Finder under
Applications>Utilities.

In Audio MIDI Setup, open the MIDI window (use the Window>Show MIDI Window
menu entry).
You will see the MIDI Studio window, looking similar to this:

Double click on the IAC Driver icon to open the IAC Driver Properties window:

Ensure that Device is online is selected. If the Ports section is not visible, click on
More information.
Click on the + button to add a new port, and then click on the new port in the list
above to change its name. Set the name to MPC MMC. (It is important that you set
this name correctly.)

MPC Plugin MMC Controller Setup 3

Start your DAW and load the MPC software into a track as a plugin.

IMPORTANT
MMC transport control will only operate when you have the MPC plugin loaded on a
track. If you remove the MPC track, the MMC transport control link will be broken.

You must now configure your DAW to listen to MMC control messages. This is
explained in the Setting up your DAW host sections below.
Note that for some DAWs, the MMC settings are stored per-project, rather than as a
global DAW setting. This means that you will have to set MMC controls up for each
new project you create.

Windows OS MMC setup

To use MMC controls from the MPC Windows plugin you must install an additional
MMC control utility.
If this is not yet installed then load MPC as a plugin within your DAW, and open the
MPC Preferences window ( >Edit>Preferences...). Select the Hardware tab, and
switch the Transport Controls selector to DAW. Follow the on-screen prompts to
launch the installer, and then restart your DAW.
The MPC MMC control utility will appear as a system tray icon. It will start
automatically when your computer reboots. This icon has a menu entry that allows
you to enable/disable MMC transmission, as required.

IMPORTANT
MMC transport control will only operate when you have the MPC plugin loaded on a
track. If you remove the MPC track, the MMC transport control link will be broken.

You must now configure your DAW to listen to MMC control messages. This is
explained in the Setting up your DAW host sections below.

global DAW setting. This means that you will have to set MMC controls up for each
new project you create.

Setting up your DAW host

To use MMC controls you must enable them in your digital audio workstation. This is
a different process for each host.

Pro Tools setup

Open Pro Tools, and insert the MPC software on a track.
Select the Setup>Peripherals menu item, and click the Machine Control tab.

MPC Plugin MMC Controller Setup 5

In the MIDI Machine Control Remote (Slave) section, tick the Enabled box, and

created earlier (or chose All MIDI Inputs). Ensure the MMC Device ID is set to 127.
Click OK.

Ableton Live setup

IMPORTANT
Ableton cannot be set up to listen to MMC control from the MPC plugin. Ableton
requires additional MIDI timecode synchronization information, which cannot be
sent from a plugin.
