GUIDELINES ON HOW TO DEVELOP INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL

THINGS TO CHECK
1. Syllabus * Should be OBEdized with the following key requirements:
- Curriculum Map:
1. All Program Outcomes and Course Outcomes must be properly
mapped.
2. All Course Outcomes must be mapped with the Program
Outcomes
If there is/are course outcome/s that is not mapped with the
Program Outcomes, then that means the course outcome is not
contributory to the achievement of the Program Outcomes, hence,
a need to revise.
- Constructive Alignment:
1. Course Outcomes (CO) should be aligned with the Program
Outcomes (PO)
2. Course Contents (CC) should be mapped with the Course
Outcomes (CO)
3. Learning Activities (LA) should be aligned with the Teaching
Activities (TA)
4. Assessment Tasks should be aligned with the Learning Activities
5. Assessment Tools should be aligned with the Assessment Tasks
- Many methods, various learning activities: an OBEdized
syllabus
makes use of different methods so as to justify the various learning
activities that are to be undertaken by the students to maximize
learning
- Authentic Assessment: apart from the traditional paper and pencil
test is the inclusion of authentic assessment where students are
evaluated based on their performance. Such performance based
assessment could either be in the form of a product or a process

2. Course Outline * Outlining should be done by properly identifying the major


concept/topic with that of the sub-topic and the sub-sub-topic (if there
is any) all presented in the proper order.
* Use Roman Numeral to indicate the major concept; natural number
to indicate the sub-topic and sub-sub topic respectively.

3. Course Content * Should be presented based on how it was presented in the course
outline,
* Important concepts/topics should be discussed comprehensively.
Text should be supported by drawings or illustrations (if necessary).
* E-resources may be included for additional explanation to certain
concepts.

4. Learning Activities *should be designed based on the syllabus


* should be anchored/aligned to a particular teaching method
* should be contributory to the achievement of the desired learning
outcomes
* must be arranged progressively (simple-complex)
* should include rubrics if it is performance based
* The type of activity should be indicated
* Learning activities must be stated clearly
5. Evaluation * must observe the guidelines in test construction
* indicate the type of test given with clear directions
* must be within the content coverage only
6. Assignment * must be specific and with clear directions
* it should contribute to the students’ mastery of the lesson learned or
could be an advance reading/notes on the next lesson as reflected in
the syllabus
7. References * Select updated book references or e-resources (at least 5 yrs back)
* Old reference books/materials may be used for as long as the
contents are still very significant/important for the lesson/s.
* Use the latest APA format on references/citations
