FORMAL EDUCATION
Formal learning is education normally delivered by trained teachers in a
systematic way within a school, higher education.
In field of education, many of us recognize that the growing gap between the
rich and poor correlates with a gap in quality of schooling. As ICT are being
incorporated into school programs, the capacities for different districts to
access, purchase and maintain technological resourced school schools where
new technology is scare, students may also access to internet and educational
technology in their homes.
ICT also focuses on modification of the role of teachers. In addition to
classroom teaching, they will have other skills and responsibilities. Teacher will
act as a virtual guides for students who use electronic media.
ICT also helps students for building successful careers and lives, in an
increasingly technological world.
NON FORMAL EDUCATION
The current emphasis on creating “knowledge-based” societies has made
“learning” throughout life more important, which in turn requires an education
system to have greater flexibility to enable learners to enter and leave the
system at different points in time. Moreover, a wide range of education
providers, including universities, NGOs, Government agencies, and the private
sector, needs to be involved, particularly because learners, who have diverse
learning styles, would need different kinds of skills from formal, non-formal,
informal, and distance and open learning institutions. This has set the context
for improving adult literacy worldwide and countries have been trying to
harness the power of ICT to achieve the same.
ICT can be used to develop livelihood skill and thus contribute to poverty
alleviation. Livelihood skills training is a common activity. The use of ICT as a
tool in such training is an engaging way for learners to develop these livelihood
skills.
ICT can be used as an effective and affordable tool in the professional
development. It is a tool for capacity building.
ICT tool can improve the overall effectiveness of monitoring and evaluation. It I
used to promote literacy for community empowerment.
INFORMAL EDUCATION
Informal learning takes place wherever people have the need, motivation and
opportunity for learning. Examples of informal learning include includes self-
directional, networking, coaching, mentoring and performance planning.
It contributes lifelong learning and uses a variety of methods, and can take place
anywhere at any time, so ICT is one of the main source for learner to learn
where they are.
Networking is one of the most effective channels for informal learning as it is
massive opportunity for knowledge sharing, whereby knowledge seekers are
connected together with subject experts.
The informal learning environment of television, video games, and the internet
are producing learners with a new profile of cognitive skills.
RESEARCH
Use of ICT tool for making research data and information available are plenty
in numbers today, but the best use of ICT tools would be to improve cognitive
skills and thus help discriminate, analyse and create information rather than
simply accumulate.
As usually research process deals with large amount of complex information
and requires a lot of skill to analyse and organise these well, any ICT tool which
helps the researcher give meaning and precision along with adding value to the
information generated would be rather above the one which help in just
gathering information.
Generally, ICT tools help researcher in the following research related tasks-
Identify appropriate information sources
Critically analyse information
Research effectively
Manage information
Use information to extend and communicate knowledge across subject
fields
Search up to ten database and electronic resources simultaneously
