The IDU is an indoor unit of the OptiX RTN 950 Radio Transmission System. It performs the
functions such as service accessing, multiplexing, intermediate frequency (IF) processing,
system communication and control. To ensure easy installation and normal operation of the IDU,
the customer needs to make proper preparations according to the requirements of the IDU.
The construction of the telecommunications room complies with the relevant local standards.

Huawei can provide the following types of cabinets for the customer:
l The rear and side parts of the cabinet are installed close to the wall.
l A space of not less than 200 mm height is reserved above the cabinet.
l A minimum of 800 mm width space is reserved in front of the cabinet for maintenance.
If multiple cabinets are installed in a telecommunications room, the common cabinet layout is
shown in Figure 1-3.

The input power of the IDU is the DC power. Table 1-1 lists the requirements for the input
power of the IDU.
NOTE
l The recommended fuse capacity of 20 A can meet requirements under the maximum power
consumption. Customers can compute the fuse capacity according to the actual power consumption.
The fuse capacity should be larger than or equal to (total power consumption x 1.5)/(rated power supply
x 87.5%). For example, when the rated power supply is -48 V and the total power consumption of the
IDU is less than or equal to 420 W, the fuse capacity can be set to 15 A.
l If the IDU is installed in a cabinet, the customer can purchase the DC power distribution unit (PDU)
from Huawei. This PDU inputs two channels of -48 V/ -60 V power supply and outputs eight channels
of 20 A -48 V/ -60 V power supply.
l If the customer can obtain only +24 V DC power or 110 V/220 V AC power, the customer can purchase
the power module from Huawei. For the relevant information, consult Huawei engineers.

l If two or more outdoor cabinets are connected to each other through signal cables (except
the situation where only optical fibers are available), you need to add a lightning-protection
unit to the electrical interface of the signals transmitted from the cabinets.
1. The cable between two cabinets is longer than five meters.
2. The cable between two cabinets is shorter than five meters, no equipotential cable
between cabinets exists, and the ground cable of a cabinet is longer than five meters.
3. The cable between two cabinets is shorter than five meters, the interconnected cabinets
do not share a ground bar, and no equipotential cable between cabinets exists.

DDF
If the IDU accesses the services through cables, the DDF needs to be installed in the
telecommunications room. The requirements for the DDF are as follows:
If both the IDU and the service equipment are installed in a 19-inch cabinet, the customer can purchase the E1
panel from Huawei. The E1 panel provides 16 75-ohm E1 cables for the IDU.
The underfloor cabling method is applicable to the telecommunications room where an ESD
floor is laid. In the case of underfloor cabling method, take certain measures such as moisture-
proof, rodent-proof, and fireproof measures for the groove or trough where cables are laid.
The overhead cabling method is applicable to the telecommunications room where no ESD floor
is laid. In the case of the overhead cabling method, cable routing facilities such as cable tray and
upward cable ladder are made available.
NOTE
The customer needs to work with Huawei engineers to plan the cable route of the IDU and to compute the cable
length.
Dust-Proof Requirements
The density of the dusts whose diameter is more than 5 micrometer is less than 3x104 g/m3. The
dusts are non-electric-conductive, non-magnetizable, and noncorrosive.
l The windows are sealed with two-layer glass, and the doors are equipped with dust-proof
sealing bars.
l The slippers and uniforms are always clean.
l The control room and the switching telecommunications room are separated from each
other by an fused glass wall to prevent people from frequently getting into or out from the
switching telecommunications room.
l The relative humidity in the telecommunications room is properly high within the allowable
range to minimize electrostatic absorption of the dusts.
The telecommunications room is equipped with air conditioners to meet the preceding
requirements. The settings of the air conditioners are as follows:
l Temperature: 18oC to 28oC (generally, the temperature is set to a range from 20oC to
25oC)
l Humidity: 30% to 75% (generally, the humidity is set to a range from 50% to 60%)
Lighting Requirements
l The telecommunications room is not exposed to direct sunshine to prevent certain
components such as circuit boards from being aged or deformed due to long-term
irradiation.
l The average illumination is 150-200LX and free of dazzling light. Generally, fluorescent
lamps are installed on the ceiling.
l The telecommunications room is installed with emergency floodlights.
Safety Requirements
l The equipment is equipped with proper fire fighting devices and materials.
l The plugs and sockets with different voltages in the telecommunications room are marked
with distinguishing flags.
l Dangerous materials such as flammable and explosive materials are forbidden in the
telecommunications room.
l The holes reserved at the top of the floor are equipped with safety covers.
l The civil engineering in the places such as the telecommunications room and corridor is
completed and the indoor walls are completely dry.
l The ground load of the telecommunications room is not less than 450 Kg/m3.
l The minimum indoor height (net height below the beam or ventilation pipe) is not less than
three meters.
l The size of the main doors in the telecommunications room meets the requirement for
moving the equipment. All the locks and keys are available.
l The ventilation equipment is installed in the telecommunications room.
l The ceiling, walls, doors, windows, and grounds of the telecommunications room are
sturdy, do not generate or accumulate dust, and can prevent dust and sand from entering.
l The ceiling does not have leaky water and dust. The decorative materials are nonflammable
or fire-resistant.
l Moisture-proof measures are taken for all the grooves and troughs. The side angles are flat.
In addition, the ground and cover are seamless.
l The lighting and electrical pipes are laid in a hidden manner.
l If an ESD elevated floor is available in the telecommunications room, the ESD elevated
floor meets the following requirements:
– The height of the elevated floor ranges from 300 mm to 450 mm.
– The impedance meets the relevant standard.
– The floor boards must be laid tightly and firmly. In the case of each square meter of
floor space, the horizontal tolerance cannot be greater than 2 mm.
– In the case of the ESD floor or the floor covered with semi-conductive material, certain
copper foil is used to ground the floor at several points (the copper foil is press-adhered
between the concrete floor and semi-conductive floor, and is connected to the ground
wire).
l If no elevated floor is available in the telecommunications room, an electrostatic conductive
floor is laid. The conductive floor meets the following requirements:
– The volume resistivity ranges from 1.0 x 107 to 1.0 x 1010 ohms.
– The electrostatic conductive floor must be grounded for electrostatic discharge.
– All the cable routing holes on the ground must be covered.
l The floor of the telecommunications room must be flat, tidy, and clean. The number,
position, and size of the reserved hidden pipes, ground grooves, and holes meet the
requirements of the technological design.
l The seismic fortification intensity of the telecommunications room meets the following
requirements:
– The main buildings of the telecommunications room are designed with the basic degree
plus one degree.
– When the equipment is installed, certain seismic fortification enhancement measures
are taken according to the local basic design degree.
l Generally, the floor of the telecommunications room is not decorated with pattern materials.
The wall surfaces and ceiling must be in bright, light, and elegant color.
l The lightning-proof design of the equipment meets the local regulations or rules for the
telecommunications room.
An IDU can be installed in the same outdoor cabinet as a wireless base station, if the outdoor
cabinet meets the corresponding IDU installation requirements.

NOTE
The customer can compute the capacity of the fuse according to the actual power consumption. The formula
is (Total power consumption x 1.5)/(Rated power supply x 87.5%).
The APM30H and TMC11H need to use different power terminals to supply power to the IDUs.
Therefore, note the following points when configuring the power supply:
l For the APM30H, use LOAD4 to LOAD7 to supply power to the OptiX RTN 950.
NOTE
For a power terminal that supplies power to the OptiX RTN 950, change the fuse capacity to 15 A
and ensure that the equipment power consumption is not higher than 460 W.
l If the TMC11H uses the DCDU-03B, use LOAD6 to LOAD8 to supply power to the OptiX
RTN 950. For the OptiX RTN 950, ensure that the power consumption is not higher than
368 W.
l If the TMC11H uses the DCDU-03C, use LOAD7 and LOAD8 to supply power to the
OptiX RTN 950. For the OptiX RTN 950, ensure that the power consumption is not higher

NOTE
When installing an IDU in an outdoor cabinet, adhere to the following surge protection and grounding
requirements:
l A protection group cable is installed on the IDU and connected to the ground bar on the cabinet.
l The service cable need not be grounded for surge protection.
l The IF cables need to be grounded at a position 0.5 m to 1.0 m away from the outdoor cabinet.
l The outdoor cable tray includes the horizontal cable tray and the vertical cable tray, and
needs to be installed according to the design drawings.
l The outdoor cable tray is connected directly to the outdoor ground grid in the steel bar
welding mode.
l The outdoor ground bar is generally installed in a position below the outdoor feeder
window, hence functioning as the ground point of outdoor cables.
l The outdoor ground bar needs to be connected to the outdoor ground grid.
13
DDF
If the IDU needs to receive services over cables, the DDF needs to be installed inside the cabinet.
Two types of DDFs are available inside the cabinet: surge-protective DDF (namely, SLPU) and
ordinary DDF.
The SLPU takes a case-shape structure, 19 inch wide and 1U high. Figure 3-11 shows the
exterior of the SLPU.
INSIDE OUTSIDE
The SLPU provides the surge-protective function with theUELP,UFLP, andUSLP2 units.
l Universal E1/T1 surge protection unit (UELP): a common E1/T1 surge-protective unit that
is an optional configuration in the SLPU. OneUELP unit provides surge protection for four
E1/T1 signals.
l Universal FE surge protection unit (UFLP): a common FE/GE surge-protective unit that is
an optional configuration in the SLPU. OneUFLP unit provides surge protection for two
FE/GE signals.
l Universal signal surge protection unit 2 (USLP2): a common E1/T1 surge-protective unit
that is an optional configuration in the SLPU. OneUSLP2 provides surge protection for
four RS485 signals, or four E1/T1 signals, or eight alarm signals.
NOTE
The SLPU is required if the cable is routed for more than five meters outdoors.
Battery Backup
When the AC power input of the APM30H is normal, the APM30H provides -48 V DC power
supply to the radio transmission equipment and charge the configured storage battery. When the
AC power input of the APM30H is abnormal, the storage battery provides -48 V DC power
supply to the radio transmission equipment. The built-in AC/DC power system of the APM
power cabinet manages the charging of storage batteries and monitors the environment inside
the cabinet.
NOTE
In addition to storage batteries, battery backup can be provided by means of a battery cabinet.
The APM30H and TMC11H can both be used as outdoor cabinets and require similar operating
environment. The requirements for environment parameters are listed in Table 3-2.
IDUs are installed inside the OMB, which is then mounted onto a pole.
1 HEUA 2 DCDU-03
2 3
When being installed in the OMB, the OptiX RTN 950 functions as a relay only. When the OptiX
RTN 950 needs to be connected to E1 or FE/GE cables, you need to install the OptiX RTN 950
in the APM30H or TMC11H based on the power supply. Figure 4-4 shows the OptiX RTN 950
installed in the OMB.
FAN FAN
DCDU-03B
FAN FAN
In the OMB, the maximum input current is 12 A for the transmission equipment, and the power
consumption of each equipment is less than 420 W. The total power consumption of the transmission
equipment is less than 460 W.
l The DC-powered OMB supports the –48 V DC power input. DCDU-03 provides nine –48
V DC outputs. DCDU-03 can also be configured with different circuit breakers to meet the
power supply requirements in various scenarios.
The ODU is an outdoor unit of the OptiX RTN 950 Radio Transmission System. The ODU
provides the functions such as frequency change and power amplification of the radio frequency
signals. To ensure easy installation and normal operation of the ODU, you need to make proper
preparations according to the relevant requirements.
Pole
Tower
U-type latch
Four point five inches can also be approximately 115 mm based on the round up method.
l The length of the pole meets the following criteria:
– If the 0.3 m or 0.6 m antenna is installed, the length of the pole needs to be not less than
0.9 m.
– If the 1.2 m antenna is installed, the length of the pole needs to be not less than 1.2 m.
(In the case of the RFS 1.2 m single-polarized splitting antenna and dual-polarized
antenna, a 2.0 m pole is required.)
– If the 1.8 m, 2.4 m, or 2.5 m antenna is installed, the length of the pole needs to be not
less than 2.0 m.
– If the 3.0 m, 3.2 m, or 3.7 m antenna is installed, the length of the pole needs to be not
less than 2.7 m.
l If the wind speed is not faster than 30 m/s, the turning angle of the antenna cannot be more
than one-third of the half-power angle of the antenna.
l The arm length of the support needs to meet the requirements (the arm length needs to be
particularly considered if the 1+1 ODU is directly installed).
l The support can bear the weight of the antenna, ODU, and coupler.
NOTE
l The customer can purchase the support that complies with the relevant standard and is provided by Huawei,
or contact Huawei engineers to obtain the support drawing and purchase the support in the local market.
l The customer needs to determine the position of installing the antenna with Huawei engineers, and ensure
that sufficient space (a minimum of 400 mm x 350 mm) needs to be reserved on the rear side of the antenna.
The self-provided antenna must use a flange interface (that is, the antenna can be installed in
separate-mounting mode). Table 5-1 lists the requirements for the interface.
For information about whether the antenna performance meets the requirements, consult Huawei
engineers.
l The outdoor ground system needs to be designed with a uniform ground grid and needs to
be connected to the indoor ground system. The ground grid needs to comply with the local
surge protection and ground standard.
l The foot of the tower needs to be connected directly to the outdoor ground grid.
l The outdoor cable tray needs to be connected directly to the outdoor ground grid.
l The outdoor ground system can be connected to the outdoor ground bar or grid to function
as the ground point of the IF cable.
l The ground resistance needs to be less than 10 ohms.
When you install an ODU on a tower, the requirements for the ground system are as follows:
l If the PGND cable of the ODU has a cross-sectional area of not less than 10 mm2, a ground
clip is used to connect the ODU to the tower.
l The ground cable of the IF cable needs to be a plastic insulated copper cable with a cross-
sectional area of not less than 6 mm2. A IF cable ground clip is used to connect the IF cable
at three positions, namely, the position one-meter below the ODU, the cable ladder in the
lower part of the tower, and the outdoor ground bar.
