Enrichment Activities: Grade Level: 11 Quarter: First Subject: General Mathematics Competency

This document provides an enrichment activity on finding the domain and range of exponential functions. It begins with introducing domain and range, and provides examples of finding the domain and range of various exponential functions. Students are then asked to practice identifying the domain and range of additional exponential functions through drills, analysis, and writing the domain and range using set builder notation. Finally, students are tasked with writing 5 exponential functions given the domain and range.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Competency:
Finds the domain and range of an exponential function
Introduction:

Exploring exponential functions. The graph of an exponential function is a

necessary tool in describing its behavior and characteristic's -it's intercepts,
asymptotes and zeros and also it's domain and range.

Guide questions:

1. What is domain? Range?

2. How to get the set of domain?
3. Is the range of an exponential function a set of real numbers?

Springboard:

Domain (D) is a set of possible value of x in an exponential function.

Range (R) is a set of possible value of f(x) or y in an exponential function.

Example 1: Example 2:

Find the domain and range of f ( x )=3 x Find the domain and range of f ( x )=−3x

D :(−∞, ∞) D :(−∞, ∞)
R :(0 ,∞ )
R :(−∞, 0)
Example 3:
Example 4:
x
Find the domain and range of f ( x )=3 +4
Find the domain and range of f ( x )=−3x +4
D :(−∞, ∞)
D :(−∞, ∞)
R :( 4 , ∞) R :(−∞, 4 )
 Have you observed the pattern?
 Look at the domains, what conclusion can you give?
 How can we get the set of range using this function : of f ( x )=bx−h +k

1x
1. g ( x )=−5 x 3. h ( x )=
4
2. f ( x )=6 x 4. t ( x )=0.5 x

ANALYSIS: 2 points
Identify the domain and range of the following exponential functions:

1. g ( x )=−5 x −4 3. h ( x )= +1
4
2. f ( x )=6 x−2 +3 4. t ( x )=0.5 x−3+ 8

CRITICAL THINKING: (3 points)

Write the domain and range of each function using the set builder notation:
D= { x | x is _______________ }
R = { y | y is ______________ }

1. f ( x )=−3x−3−3 3. y=−2x+1 +5
2x
2. f ( x )=5 x +7 4. g ( x )=− +3
