The great Nammalwar had a great desire to remain in Tirumala all his life and do

mind in Alwar Tirunagari, could not be fulfilled. When Sri Ramanuja sought ways to
make the desire come true, his disciples remained silent. One disciple named
Ananthalwan decided to follow his Acharya’s wish of going to Tirumala and setting up a
garden, though it would mean being physically away from him. He expressed his
willingness to go and serve the Lord. At that time, Tirumala was a terrible forest with
fierce animals like tigers and leopards and also very poisonous serpents and other
poison-spewing creatures. The brave way in which Ananthalwan went to that terrible
place and proceeded to clear the forest and establish a garden elicited the admiration
of Ramanuja who thought of his disciple as a hero-warrior.
