SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS

I. Objective:

At the end of the session, the students are expected to:

▪ Compute the point estimate of the population mean.


▪ Differentiate point estimate and interval estimate.

Directions: Given the following letters, form a word that corresponds to each of the statement
below.
1.) Set of all people, objects, events or ideas you want to investigate.

Drill: THE MEAN MACHINE


The students will have an online drill using the site “The Mean Machine”. If online
activity isn’t possible the teacher may provide activity sheets containing set of numbers
where the students need to solve for the value of the mean.
B. Presentation
ACTIVITY: HOW OLD AM I?
The students will be group into 10. Each group will create a group
chat/messenger room so that they can discussed and gather information to answer the
activity. The teacher will be included in the group chat/messenger of each for facilitating
the said activity. The presentation of the output of each group may be done in the
group chat/messenger room of then whole class.
TASK: Gather data about the age of your classmates today. Tally the
corresponding age under the Tally column and write the corresponding number
under the Frequency column.

ABSTRACTION

An estimate is a value or range of values that approximate a parameter. It is


based on sample statistics computed from the sample data.

Estimation is the process of determining the parameter values.

A point estimate is a specific numerical value of a population parameter. The


sample mean X̅ is the best point estimate of the population mean. It is obtained by
getting the “mean of the means” of all sample.

An interval estimate is a range of values that may contain the parameter of a


population.

APPLICATION

Situation: A researcher, conducted a survey among 50 randomly selected tourists


who ate Ayungin. Below is the number of pieces of Ayungin eaten of every individual in
an hour. What is the average number of Ayungin eaten by a tourist?

IV. Evaluation

Directions: Find the point estimate of 25 randomly selected students who took a 20-
item quiz in Science. Below are the scores of the students.

Note: Application and Evalaution will be printed and will be given to the students for them to answer at
