Theme A: Personal Information
We have managed to get 3 interviewees to be our respondents. There are from the faculty of
Education and Social Sciences (FESS) majoring in Bachelor in Islamic Studies. All 3 of them
are now currently in their 8th semester. We have adapted an interview questions from
(Paweena Chatsungneon 2015) to find out what are their opinions on particular skills in
English that is needed to be focused on when it comes to Technical English class. The

Based on the first and second questions, The researcher found that these students are having
difficulties especially in speaking in English. When we asked them why, our first respondent
said that she rarely speaks in English because she is not used to the language. Her family,
friends all uses Bahasa as a medium to communicate so she does not feel the need to speak in
English. One of the respondents stated that he refused to speak in English because he
somehow feels like the word used in English are really hard to pronounce especially when it
comes to accent. Lastly, Our respondents stated that he choose not to speak in English
because he does not have much knowledge about grammar and vocabulary.

Moving on to the forth questions, researchers asked them on how do they think they
can improve their speaking skills. Respondent 1 that she always has been using songs and
movies as a platform to learn, so she stated that she will try to use them efficiently to improve
her language. As for the 2nd respondent he stated that he need to practice consistently and try
to learn in a more fun away. Our last respondent stated that he need to do a lot more revision
To improve the quality of the syllabus, we have asked all of the interviewees on what
are their opinions about the content that should be in their English Technical class.
Surprisingly, All of our respondent A, B and C mentioned that the syllabus should create
The last 4 questions that were asked are regarding on what do they wish to have in
their English Technical class. Based on the interview session that was carried out, it shows
that respondent 2&3 prefer a group task activity, however as for the 1strespondent she said
that she prefers an outside classroom activity and a role play should be involved in technical
We did asked all of our respondents on how many hours do they think are sufficient
enough for their technical English class, Respondent 1&3 agreed that 2 hours per week is
enough for them. As for our 2ndrespondent, he stated that 3 hours is the sufficient time for his
technical English class. Lastly, we would like to know on what are their perceptions towards
their lecturer during Technical English class, Our 1st respondent mentioned that her lecturer
uses worksheet during the lesson. Respondent A and B stated that their lecturer are very
straightforward and this is actually helping them a lot in understanding the content.
4.3 Language Analysis On Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary and Sentences.
Structure
Based on the questionnaires, the data that was collected was then were analyse using the
qualitative method. Then, the researchers conducted an interview session to observe their
proficiency in the English Language. Throughout the interview session, researcher found that
the interviews tend to make a lot of error when speaking.
4.3.1 Pronunciation

Respondent 1 mispronounce the word The right pronunciation is; /əˈbʌv/
“above”
Respondent 2 mispronounce the word The right pronunciation is; /aksɛnt/
“accent”

4.3.2 Grammar

Respondent 1 said Respondent forgot to add the word “it” in
“Not used to and rarely talk in English” her sentences.
4.3.3 Vocabulary

Respondent 1 stated that It would have been better if the respondent
replaced the word talk with speak.
“not used to and rarely talk in English” So the sentence would be “not used to it and
I rarely speak in English”
Respondent 2 mentioned that The word “compact” used in this sentence
does not really help in describing the way
“simple and compact” someone is teaching. Looks like the
respondent is just direct translating the word
from his native language.
Respondent 3 said Misused of vocabulary
“by doing some revision, replay, research The word “replay” should be replaced with
and…” role play. So the sentence would be
