Q14. A current through a 25mH inductor shown in figure 2 changes from 12 A to


27A in 125ms. Calculate the following

(i) Magnitude of induce emf

(ii) Direction of the induced emf in relation to the current

Q15 Calculate the capacitance of parallel plate capacitor whose plates are air
separated by 2.15mm and have an area of 0.525 m2,

Q16. A capacitor has Parallel plates with area 5cm x 10cm, and has a separation of
2cm. If the space between the plates is filled up with a dielectric with a constant
K = 4.7, calculate the capacitance

Q17. Use Kirchhoffs laws to calculate currents I1, I2 , and I3 in figure 3

Q18 Use Thévenin’s to calculate the current through load resistance R L in Figure
4. Your answer should show the following value results only

(i) Thevenin’s Voltage (Vth )

(ii) Thevenin’s equivalent resistance (RTh )

(iii) Current through load resistance 2Ω Resistor ( IL )

Q19. Use Norton’s theorem to calculate current which will flow through the 5Ω
resistor in the circuit below (figure 5). (You may use loop currents shown to calculate
your solutions)

Your answer should show Values only of the following;

(i) Nortons current ( IN or short circuit load current)

(ii) Nortons equivalent resistance (RN )

(iii) Current through 5Ω resistor ( I5Ω )

Q20. Very briefly, define maximum power transfer and explain one typical
application of this concept. Your answer should show the following:

a. (i) Definition of maximum power transfer

(ii) Typical application and why

b. Determine value of load resistor which will dissipate maximum power


transfer and calculate maximum power transfer for the circuit diagram shown
below in figure 6, your answer should show values only of the following;

(i) Resistance across identified load terminal or Rth

(ii) Voltage across load branch or Vth

(iii) Maximum power transferred to the load Pmax

Q22. Use Superposition theorem to calculate the value of current which will flow
through the middle branch with 30Ω resistor shown in figure 7. Your answer should
indicate the following

(i) Current through 30Ω due to the 50V source

(ii) Current through 30Ω due to the 20V source

(iii) Total current through 30Ω due to both sources
