Red Hat Learning Subscription (RHLS)

Red Hat® Learning Subscription (RHLS) delivers access to Red Hat online training resources in
a single, annual subscription. Watch videos, take courses, and complete hands-on labs online,
at your own pace. Customize your learning experience to access online training classes,
certification exams, or video courses by choosing your subscription tier. RHLS provides
convenient, on-demand access to the high-quality content of our traditional classrooms through
flexible cloud based labs.

This document provides you with a walk through of RHLS Standard web portal, from accessing
your course catalogs to navigating different sections of the online course contents, labs,
providing feedback, downloading course completion certificates and scheduling the certification
exams.

Accessing RHLS Standard Portal

Using a supported browser, connect to

Log on to the RHLS Standard portal using your username and password.

Red Hat Learning Subscription Home Page

After a successful logon, you will land on the Home page of RHLS portal.

You will notice information regarding the number of days left in your subscription and
the different tabs available.

Courses​ - This will list the courses you have enrolled, the course history and the course
catalog.

Learning Pathways -​ Pathways help you choose the right path in choosing the
courses, which will make you eligible for the related certification examinations.

Expert Seminars ​- Video seminars give you on-demand insights from Red Hat
instructors and SMEs that supplement existing course content. Expert seminars are
included in RHLS Standard Subscriptions only.
Once you select the “Learning Pathways” tab, it would change into “Catalogue” under
which you can choose the seminar of your choice by clicking on “Launch” button.

You can only view one Expert Webinar at a given point in time. You should close your
current webinar, before you can view another one.

When you “Launch” the webinar, it will be opened in a new tab in your browser.

under development.

You can choose to select the course in development and hit ‘Launch’ button to start that
course.

Course Catalog

After the successful login, the landing page will show you the Catalog Tab, listing your course
catalog. By default, it will show 10 courses from the catalog, but you can click and change to
view more by clicking the show courses drop-down menu.

Filtering the courses from the catalog

You can filter the courses by Curriculum, Modality and/or Languages available.

You can also search the courses by using “Narrow results” bar on the right side of the page.

Launching the course

Selecting the course

Select the course of interest, by clicking the ​Course Code: Name​ link.

For eg, ​RH254: Red Hat System Administration III

Choosing the Course Language

You can choose a different language from the ​TRANSLATIONS ​drop-down menu.

If there are multiple versions of the course available, you may choose the version of choice from
the drop-down menu.

Launching the course

Click the ‘LAUNCH’ button to start the course. This will take you to the introduction section of
the course. PLEASE NOTE: At this stage, your labs have not started and no lab consumption
hours are deducted yet.

Its suggested to start the cloud labs at this stage, as lab environments would take time to boot.
After you’ve completed reading the Table of Contents and course introduction, your labs will be
ready for practice. Select “YES, START IT” button to start the labs. If you do not want to do the
labs, then you can exit the page or click on “NOT RIGHT NOW”.

NOTE:

Select the “Table of Contents” tab to see the individual chapter and the sections from each
chapter.

If you want to change the language from the original selection, you can do so by selecting the
“TRANSLATIONS” green drop-down menu, on the right side of the page.

Jump to a particular Section of a Chapter

You can jump to any Section in any Chapter, by clicking the section link.

In the example above, the link would take you to Section 2.3 in Chapter 2.

Tracking the course progress

The progress grid at the top of the screen will display a (1) red mark indicating your
current location within the course. Course pages you have not yet visited will display in (2) light
blue, visited pages will display in (3) dark blue.

Accessing the Online Learning Videos

High Definition Videos are available for users in the RHLS portal, to supplement the
course contents. Scroll down to the video section and click play button to start the
webinar.

You can pause/resume the video in between, adjust the volume and make the video
fullscreen, if required.

Using bookmarks in Online Learning

You can bookmark a section and/or a lab by clicking the yellow star icon on the right side of the
page.

The existing bookmarks can be view by clicking the ‘Course Bookmarks’ blue star icon on the
right side.

Accessing the Online Lab

The Online lab can be access by clicking the ‘Online Lab’ tab.

If the labs are in stopped state, then you can start the labs by clicking the ‘START LAB’ button.

Since lab machine time is limited, we employ a timer, which is by default set to two (2)
hours, to shut down the lab systems. When the timer runs out of time, it will automatically shut
down the machines. The timer keeps an accidental oversight from consuming all of your
machine time.

You can reset the timer to as much as four (4) hours. Time can also be added to the timer, up to
four (4) hours, to keep the machines running, by clicking the ‘MODIFY’ button.

After you’ve finished your learning, remember to shutdown the labs by clicking
‘SHUTDOWN LAB’ button.

Accessing the Virtual Machine Console

Each virtual machine’s console can be accessed by clicking the ‘OPEN CONSOLE’ button.

The console of the VM will open in a new tab in your browser. Make sure that you have enabled

‘Show Keyboard’, ‘Ctrl-Alt-Del’ and ‘Paste Text’

Show Keyboard - This button will show a virtual keypad for you to enter the commands using
the mouse.

‘Ctrl-Alt-Del’ - This button would send a ‘Poweroff’ instruction to the running VM.

‘Paste Text’ - This button would send text to the VM terminal for execution

Resetting the Virtual Machine

If at any point during the learning, you like to reset the VM to original state, you can use the
‘ACTION’ drop-down menu, then choose ‘Reset’

Downloading the Student Guide for offline reference.

RHLS users can download* the Student Guide in PDF format from the portal itself.
On the right side of the portal, click ‘Download Student Guide as PDF’ drop-down menu and
choose the language of your choice.

* A Subscriber may download eBooks associated with RHLS online courses, subject to the following
limits:
(a) a Named Participant may download no more than one (1) eBook per day;
(b) a Named Participant may download no more than ten (10) different eBooks during the subscription
term.

Course Completion Report

You can check the status of your individual courses in the ‘Completion’ tab, with the progress
mentioned in percentage.

Lab Hours Consumption Details

‘Lab Activity’ tab will show the number of hours of labs accessed for your individual courses,
with their last accessed time.

Contacting Red Hat Support

You can get help for technical issues or content-related questions by using the “Help”
tab in the RHLS portal.

Contact Support - Open a support case with Red Hat Customer Portal. This option is
not used commonly for RHLS related queries.

Talk to an Instructor - Schedule an appointment for “Instructor Office Hour” on a


particular course and subject. You can choose your start time and end time for the
interactive session based on your timezone. Please provide enough details on what
skills/knowledge you expect to earn from “Instructor Office Hours”

Existing Appointments - This will show you the existing scheduled appointments

Access to Beta Content

Being an active RHLS user, you will have advance access to course chapters and lab
environments under development. You can view the courses which are under
development by clicking the ‘Early Access’ tab.

Video Classroom

Red Hat Learning Subscription includes Video Classroom, which provides you access to our
most popular courses, presented by our most experienced instructors, and recorded in high
definition (HD) video. This gives you an interactive "in-classroom" setting at your own preferred
location and at your own pace.

To choose the video classroom, click on ‘Launch’ button to the right of Video Classroom section
in the selected course.

The video classroom will start with an introductory video showing the course title and name.

After the introductory video, you will be landing on the Introduction Video by your instructor.

You can select the navigation pane on top left corner, to display the day wise contents of the
course.

To go through the introduction from the instructor and the course, you can click on the Overview
Tab and click the PLAY button to the right of the INTRODUCTION video.

You can follow the video and audio by checking the ‘Sync Transcript’ screen on the right side
pane. If you don’t want audio to text sync, you may choose to turn it off by clicking the ‘Off’
button.

You will notice a control pane on the lower side which can help you customize the audio/video
speed, manage the volume and toggle the subtitle etc.

- Toggle between Sync Transcript On/Off, which will be showed on the right pane.

- Closed Caption to turn on/off subtitles for the speech.

On the top to the right side, you will notice additional icons

- Search for any word or phrase within the course

- Enter the virtual lab environment

- Download custom watermarked student guide for your personal use

- View your bookmarks

Searching for any word within the course

If there is a match for the search string, then you will be shown the Chapters and exact
timeframe in the video, where the string will be used by the instructor in the course. To jump to
that section, you can click the red icon on the bar

Enter the Virtual Lab Environment

Clicking the Lab icon would open a new tab, where in you can launch your lab
environment.

Click on ‘PROVISION LAB’ to start the leb environment.

Using bookmarks in Video Classroom

You can bookmark a Chapter by clicking the yellow bookmark icon to the left of Chapter Name.

The bookmarked chapters can be viewed by clicking the icon

Course Survey.

After completing 25% of the course, you will be prompted to provide feedback of the course.
The feedback/survey option will be available at the top of the course titled as “Tell us what you
think”

To provide feedback click “TAKE ME TO THE SURVEY” button. This will open a new tab in your
browser.

Once you have finished, you can submit the responses by clicking the “SUBMIT SURVEY”
button at the end of the page.

Course Survey in Video Classroom (VC)

Once you have finished 25% in Video Classroom (VC), the course evaluation option will be
available, to provide feedback on the course and instructor videos, illustrations and demos.
Proceed to the last day section of the course, in the below example, it’s Day 3. You will notice
“Course Evaluation” button. Clicking the button will open a new tab, asking you to provide your
valuable feedback. This window is similar to what you get in Red Hat Online Learning.

Course Completion Certificates


Once you have completed 75% of the course, you can request for a course completion
certificate.

“Certificate of Attendance” button will be visible after 75% of course completion. Clicking the
button would pop-up a window asking you to enter the name you want to display in the
certificate.

Click “CONFIRM AND DOWNLOAD” button, and a new tab is opened with your certificate.

Course Completion Certificate in Video Classroom (VC)


Once you have completed 75% of the course, “Certificate of Completion” button will be visible
while navigating to the last day of the course section. In the below example, it’s Day 3.

Click on “Certificate of Completion” and new tab will open requesting you to enter the details.

Enter your Name, e-Mail, Red Hat login, Course and Date of Completion and press “Submit”
button. The certificate of completion will be e-Mailed to you by the support team.

Scheduling Exams

Creating the Eligibility for exams in RHLS Portal

Eligibility for exams can be done within the RHLS portal in two ways.

1) Learning Pathways

To schedule an exam, ​Click on “Learning Pathways” Tab.

From the available lists, choose the pathway of your choice.


The below example show “Red Hat Certified Architect: Cloud”.

The next page shows all the courses and exams in the “Red Hat Certified Architect: Cloud”
Learning Path. You need to first create the “Eligibility” for the exam, before you can schedule
the examination using​ ​Red Hat Scheduler

Click on the examination you want to create eligibility.

Click on the “View” button which will take you to a fresh page containing information about the
examination like, objectives, format and pre-requisites.

Click on “Enrol” to complete the enrolment process. Once the enrolment is done, a “Launch”
button would show up. Please click on the “Launch” button to create the eligibility and schedule
the exam using​ ​Red Hat Scheduler

Note: It would take 30 minutes for RHLS Portal to create an eligibility for the exam at ​Red Hat
Scheduler.

2) Via Courses -> Catalogue

You can schedule exams by going to Courses -> Catalogue , then choosing Individual Exam or
Exam from the “Type” drop-down menu.

Type the exam of your choice into the “Courses Name or Keyword” field and chose “Individual
Exam” in the “Type” drop-down menu. For example, in the below screenshot, EX310 is shown.

You can now click “Enrol” button and the rest of the process is similar to what is described in
“Learning Pathways” method.

Scheduling Exams at Red Hat Scheduler Portal

The URL for Red Hat Scheduler is ​https://rhtapps.redhat.com/individualexamscheduler/

Use the same username and password which you used in Red Hat Learning Subscription portal
to log on to Red Hat Scheduler Portal.

Once logged in, you will be taken to the Red Hat Scheduler landing page, showing your profile
information and scheduled exams.

You can expand the side pane to see different options.

How to schedule an exam

To schedule an exam, Select My Exams , then the exam you want to schedule.

Then below, Under “My Exams: All Exams” select the exam

When you click on the exam, a new pop-up will show up, asking you to choose the
Country from the drop-down menu, matching your Government Issued Photo ID.

Choose Japan as the country and then upload your photo ID proof.

Click the upload icon to upload your Country Photo ID

At this point candidate has to wait until someone from Red Hat approves the ID.
Candidate will receive an email once the Photo ID is approved. Candidate need to
bring the same ID on the exam day.

Once ID is approved, you need to follow the below steps, after having followed the
earlier steps.

Choosing the country will enable the schedule button on the right side.

Click the schedule button and it will take you to “Locate Center” page, which by default
will show centres based on your current location.

You can search for a different location in the “Search Location (min. 3 characters)” field,
which will show available centres.

For example, if you type “melbourne”, it will show all centres from Melbourne region.

On all the locations which are shown, you can move the mouse over below buttons to
get information on their exact location, types of keyboard layouts supported and timings
that centre will be available.

Choose the location of your choice and click on “Schedule Exam” button to see the
available dates and times to schedule your exam.

In the subsequent page, you will see the dates and time slots which are available at that
centre from the current date to next one week.

You can choose a different date to see the available slots from that day to next one
week.

Choose the date and time which suits you and click on the timeslot.

Once you click on the timeslot, it will take you to a fresh page with “RESERVE” button.

You must update your Personal Information with your phone number and agree to Terms and
Conditions by checking the “I Agree” checkbox.

You can now press “RESERVE” to reserve the date and timeslot for the examination.

You will see a pop-up confirming your reservation.

Hitting the “OK” button would take you to the Red Hat Scheduler landing page, where you would
see your scheduled exam with date and time mentioned on the top corners.

You will also get an e-Mail notification about the confirmation of your Red Hat Individual
Examination session.

You can access your scheduled exam by navigating to the left panel and choosing “Scheduled
Exams”

Rescheduling or Canceling a scheduled examination.

You can reschedule or cancled your scheduled exam by navigating to the left panel and
choosing “Scheduled Exams”, then clicking on the exam you wish to reschedule/cancel.

When you choose the examination, you need to provide the country for the Government Issued
Photo ID. Once the country is selected, you can see the Reschedule and Cancel buttons
available to the right side.

To Reschedule the exam, click “Reschedule” and follow the steps mentioned under “How to
schedule an exam” section of this document. After choosing the new date, you will get an e-Mail
confirming the reschedule of your Red Hat Individual Examination session.

To cancel the exam, Click “Cancel Exam”. Once you hit “Cancel Exam” it will prompt you to
confirm the cancellation.

You can click “Cancel Exam” to proceed with the cancellation. If you don’t want to cancel, you
can click “Not Sure”.

Once you hit “Cancel Exam”, you will get a confirmation screen of the cancellation.

You will also get an e-Mail notification confirming the cancellation of your Red Hat Individual
Examination session.
