01 EXAMPLE

Identify the mirror image of words

In this section, you'll have a question where some words will be given and we have to find the mirror image of
that word. Let's take an example,
G a y A T R I s u t r A is the given word. Which one of the following above images is the appropriate mirror
image of the word ?
Solution :
If we'll put a mirror beside the word given then A will be the first word and will appear as it is, since A's mirror
image is same.
The first letter G will become the last and will change its curve direction from right to left. And all the positions
will be reversed.

02 EXAMPLE

Identify the mirror image of numbers

In this section, the numbers will be given in the question and the mirror will be placed beside the number and then
you have been asked to identify the mirror image of that number from the given alternatives.

03 EXAMPLE

Identify mirror image of alphanumeric words

Alphanumeric words means the words which include both alphabets and numbers.
For eg : C A r 3 4 5 is the alphanumeric word.
In this type of questions, the alphanumeric word will be given to you, the mirror will be placed besides the
alphanumeric word and we have to find the mirror image of that word.

04 DEFINITION

Identify mirror image of the figure

The questions in this section will have certain figures like the images including circle, rectangle, triangle etc. and
beside the figure mirror will be placed. So, you have to find the mirror image of the given figure.

05 EXAMPLE

Identify water image of the words

This section includes the question where certain words will be given and you have been asked to identify the
mirror image of that word. It is same as mirror image where mirror will be placed down the word. For example

The word PLEDGE is given. Find the water image for the given word from the images given above.
Solution :

06 EXAMPLE

Identify water image of the numbers

This section contains the questions where numbers will be given and you have to choose the correct water image of
that number from the given alternatives.

07 EXAMPLE

Water image of alphanumeric words

This section will involve a question of the type, where alphanumeric words i.e. the combination of alphabets and
words will be given in the question itself. And you have to find the correct water image of the given alphanumeric
word. The images will be reversed from down.

08 EXAMPLE

Water image of the figure

In this section, the figure will be given in the question and you have to find the correct water image of the figure
from given alternatives.
The water image will be obtained by reversing the figure downwards.

09 DEFINITION

Identify the shape

This section contains the same questions as of above. The only change is,
figure will be given and you have to choose the shape from given alternatives which is a part of that given figure.

10 EXAMPLE

The shape completing the figure matrix

https://www.toppr.com/learn/class-11/logical-reasoning/images/concepts/ 3/13
11/23/2019 Toppr

This section contains question of the type where different figures will be there and they'll be related in some
manner. Relate the figures and then find appropriate figure which will be related to others in same manner.
For example
In the following question, three figures are given above and they follow the same pattern. How many circles will
replace the question mark.
Solution :
In figure 1, difference between stripped circle and plain circle in outer circles is equivalent to inner circle. i.e.
6 − 4 = 2 6−4=2

11 EXAMPLE

Combination of shapes and alphanumeric words

Here you'll be given the combination of shapes and alphanumeric words and they'll be related in some manner. We
need to relate them and have to find the missing term which will complete the figure matrix. Let's take an example
3C 27D 9E
7I 21K 3M
4D ? 7J
Find the missing term.
Solution :
In the 1st 1st and 2nd 2nd rows, multiple of number in first and third column is same as the number in second
column. i.e. 3 × 9 = 27 3×9=27 and 7 × 3 = 21 7×3=21
Letters in 1st 1st row differ by 11 in alphabetic series.
Letters in 2nd 2nd row differ by 22 in alphabetic series.
So, letters in 3rd 3rd row differ by 33 in alphabetic series.
https://www.toppr.com/learn/class-11/logical-reasoning/images/concepts/ 4/13
11/23/2019 Toppr

In third row, 4 × 7 = 28 4×7=28 and D + 3 = G D+3=G.

So, 28G will replace the question mark.

12 EXAMPLE

Shape completing the pattern

A problem figure is given whose one part/quarter is missing or left blank with some choices. You have to find the
missing part.
Solution :
In the following question, each part/quadrant of the figure contains half of the heart shape and a curve starting
from origin.
As we have to find the shape for the fourth quadrant, so the curve will start from origin and moves downward into
right direction.
It will be opposite to third quadrant.

13 EXAMPLE

Shape obtained after folding a paper once

https://www.toppr.com/learn/class-11/logical-reasoning/images/concepts/ 5/13
11/23/2019 Toppr

The questions of this section will be of the type

In above question figure, find the figure which resembles the pattern formed when the transparent sheet, carrying a
design, is folded along the dotted line.
Solution :
In above question figure, designed paper is given.
If it will be folded along the dotted lines, the line on the right sheet will become exact opposite when it will come to
left sheet.
So, we get the paper which contains two intersecting lines.
Hence the pattern formed after folding the paper is same as in answer figure.

14 DEFINITION

Shape obtained after folding a paper twice

In this section, instead of folding the paper once it will be folded twice along the dotted lines. And the figure
obtained after folding twice will be the answer figure.

15 EXAMPLE

Unfolded paper cut from various places

Instead of cutting at one place, this section contains the question where the paper is being cut from various places.
We have to unfold the paper and obtain the require figure.

16 EXAMPLE

Same dot pattern as in the given figure

In this section, the dots will be given in the figure where the dots follow certain pattern. We have to understand
that pattern and identify the figure which follows the same pattern. Let's take an example

From the figure A, B, C and D find the figure similar to above figure.

17 EXAMPLE

Group of figures following the same pattern

This section contains the group of figures.

Different figures will be given, from which we have to group the figures in such a way that every figure in a

https://www.toppr.com/learn/class-11/logical-reasoning/images/concepts/ 7/13
11/23/2019 Toppr

particular group should follow the same pattern.

Let's see an example
In the adjoining matrix given above, group the given figures into three classes using each figure only once.
Solution :
First group will contain the figure 1, 4 1,4 and 77 in which every figure has four sides.
Second group is 2, 5 2,5 and 88 in which every figure is 33 dimensional.
Third group contains 3, 6 3,6 and 99 in which every figure is a type triangle.
Hence 1, 4, 7 1,4,7 : 2, 5, 8 2,5,8 : 3, 6, 9 3,6,9 are the groups of figures.

18 EXAMPLE

In this section, we have to group the figures into classes using each figure only once. For example
Group the given figures into three classes using each figure only once.
Solution :
From the above figure, 1,2,7 will be in one class as they contain only one shape.
3,5,9 will be another class as they contain two shapes one inside another.
4 6 8 will be in one class as they contain two shapes one adjacent to other

19 EXAMPLE

Group of shapes making a square

https://www.toppr.com/learn/class-11/logical-reasoning/images/concepts/ 8/13
11/23/2019 Toppr

In this section, we find the group of shapes which together form a square.
It'll have the question of the type
There are four figures, three of which would form a complete square. Choose the three from among the alternatives.
(A) bcd
(B) abc
(C) acd
(D) abd
Solution :
The shapes a, b and c combined will give a complete square.
So, abc is the group of shapes which when combined together will form a complete square.

20 EXAMPLE

The shape and given figure completes the sqaure

21 EXAMPLE

The shape and given figure completes the equilateral triangle

https://www.toppr.com/learn/class-11/logical-reasoning/images/concepts/ 10/13
11/23/2019 Toppr

It contains the type of questions

In this question, which of the following p, q, r and s is required to complete the given figure into an equilateral
triangle.
Solution :
In the above figure, if we combine either of the q, r and s it will not a triangle.
But when we combine figure p with the given figure, it will result into an equilateral triangle.
So, p forms an equilateral triangle when combined with the given figure.

22 EXAMPLE

Shape formed after combining several shapes together

In this section, the different figures would be provided in the question itself.
We need to combine those figures and form certain shape. Then choose the appropriate shape formed from the
given alternatives. Let's take an example

In the following question, two problem figures(A, B) are given above. Find which of the following alternatives(1,
2, 3 or 4) figures would be formed, if the first figure is superimposed on the second figure.
Solution :
In both the figures certain things are common.
So, placing the dots at correct position and emerging the two images we get the shape as in option 1.
Hence, shape (1) is formed after combining the images together.

23 EXAMPLE

Figure containing specified components of the given figure

https://www.toppr.com/learn/class-11/logical-reasoning/images/concepts/ 11/13
11/23/2019 Toppr

This section contains the questions of the type

In which answer figure(A,B,C,D) all the specified components of the key figure(above figure) are found?
Solution :
If we look at the figure A, black dots are missing.
In figure B, small circle is missing.
In figure D, black dots are missing.
So, figure A, B and D does not contain all the components of the main figure.
Whereas C contains all the components of the main figure.

24 SHORTCUT

Counting number of lines

In this type of questions, an image will be provided in the question and you will be asked to count the number of
straight lines in it.
Such problems are to be solved by first naming all the vertices and intersections, if any.
Then count the lines by naming them, starting from either the left or right side.

25 SHORTCUT

Counting closed figures (2D)

In this type of questions, an image will be provided in the question and you will be asked to count the number of
closed figures in it.
Such problems are to be solved by first naming all the vertices and intersections, if any.
Then count the figures by naming them, starting from either the left or right side.
