Abstract
This essay aims to explore and meditate on the importance and benefits of the internet
in modern society and how it has transformed the way we relate and interact with each
other. Communication is considered as the basis of all forms of social structure and
starting from this assumption, the internet as a transforming phenomenon of
communication would constitute the new foundation of society and its development.
New societies are no longer limited by spaces of physical interaction and all people
would be communicated and have access to unlimited information.
Communication makes possible the existence of social structures and their economic,
social, political and cultural development. In the last century, the way we communicate
has evolved rapidly from letters and telegraph to mobile phones and social networks.
The internet is the mean of communication and social interaction that interweaves our
lives today. Despite being recent in its social form (the internet as we know is
constituted as such in 1994 with the creation of a browser and the world wide web) the
UN estimated that by 2018, 50% of the population would have access to the Web.
The internet has revolutionized the way we communicate, allowing the relationship
beyond the physical. Not only allows us to be in contact with our loved ones at anytime
and anywhere on the planet, but also, we can make contact with other people outside
our regular spaces of interaction through virtual communities. Virtual communities are
also communities, generate interactions and relationships within affinity and affection
networks, outside of traditional spaces.
The internet has radically transformed the media. Nowadays, we have access to
information about what happens in any part of the world, in real time. The flow of
information is continuous, massive and reaches more people which enables the creation
of new and better spaces for debate and reflection that allow us to create a global society
where different ideas can converge in harmony.
INTERNET AND COMMUNICATION
Today, it is almost impossible to find someone who does not have a cell phone with
access to the network. With the new technologies we are in contact with everyone at all
times and we are able to access an unlimited source of information and entertainment
whenever we want. This indestructible link between internet, communication and
technology has made us all up to date on the latest discoveries and technological
advances.
The internet is and probably will continue to be, the essential means of communication
in which new forms of human interaction are constructed. It is a phenomenon that
constitutes the new basis of societies and forms of interaction and communication built
from the access to information and human contact beyond physical boundaries
