A Home- made Healthy Drink

Tired of taking carbonated drinks? Why not make yourself a healthy
home-made drink? To begin, you will need to prepare some ginger (thumb
sized), three to five stalks of lemon grass and a cinnamon stick (about 5
inches long).
Before you start to prepare the main ingredients, put two litres of water into
the pot to boil. While waiting for the water to boil, scrape the skin off the ginger.
Once this is done, smash the ginger with the back of knife or a mortar and pestle.
Wash the lemon grass and peel off any withered leaves. Then, smash its bulb.
Smashing is done to ensure that its flavours are easily released while boiling.
Next, put the cinnamon stick through water to remove dirt on it. When the
water starts boiling, pour the smashed ginger, lemon grass and cinnamon stick into
the pot. Turn the fire down to low heat and let it boil for 20 minutes. If you prefer
your drink sweet, add in some rock sugar.
Turn off the fire once the rock sugar has been completely dissolved. Finally,
the drink is ready to be served. Traditionally, this drink has also been
recommended for people who have a prolonged cough.

Questions 25 to 34
Read the text below and answer questions 25 to 34.
LIVING ON AN ISLAND

Living on an Island is peaceful and restful. You and your family can lead a
comfortable and stress-free life unlike in the city. You will also be surrounded by
beautiful views of the blue sea, white-sand beaches and swaying trees. Island living is
good for the mind and body. There are many reasons to live on an island but there are
several disadvantages too.

When you live on an island, everything is close by. You can walk to the school, to
the beach or to the shops easily. However, when your ‘town’ is so small, it can get
crowded very fast. Traffic jams can happen often if everybody decides to drive. It can
also be difficult to get a parking space when your family drives to the supermarket or
restaurant. The situation can worsen during the holiday season. Tourists may flood the
island and it won’t be a peaceful island anymore.

Island living provides great views no matter where you are. You can watch the
sunset or sunrise from the beach or even from your bedroom. If you live close to the
beach, this is your view every day. Depending where you live, you can also wake up
every day to a view of the forest or hills. Therefore, island living offers an attractive view.

Island air is also fresh and clean. The water is not polluted. However, there can
be a lot of mosquitoes. You must take precautions because mosquitoes can cause
diseases such as Dengue Fever or Chikungunya.

The weather on an island is often warm and sunny. It is great weather to enjoy
outdoor activities every day. However, it can get very hot and humid on some days.
When these days come, you will be drenched in sweat just by walking a short distance.

A lot of items which you can buy easily in a city have to be shipped from the
mainland. Sometimes, essential items are not available at the supermarket or grocery
store. You may be able to get them after a long wait.
