    Upgrading an existing 5973N or 5973 inert MSD to be able to

    use the SIM/SCAN feature

    There are four (4) things which need to be looked at to see if the 5973 MSD can run
    SIM/SCAN.

    1- The 5973 MSD must have LAN communication; SIM/Scan is not supported on
    the GPIB communication platform. If your MSD is running on GPIB then the
    G1088A – 5973A Performance upgrade kit needs to be purchased. The
    upgrade kit converts the 5973A MSD Standard Electronics to Performance
    Electronics --software is not included within this kit, installation and
    familiarization is included.

    2- SIM/Scan requires G1701DA D.02.00 or higher versions of the MSD


    Productivity ChemStation software. Users can verify the software version by
    checking the “Review Revision History” located under the Help pull down
    menu item. If you do not see “Review Revision History” under the Help pull
    down menu item or if the product is G1701DA D.01.xx or earlier; then you will
    need to upgrade your MSD Productivity ChemStation software to G1701DA
    D.02.00 via the G1617DA - G1701DA MSD ChemStation Software Upgrade –
    installation and familiarization is not included with the upgrade kit.

    3- SIM/Scan requires the LAN Control Card 3+ (SmartCard3+) to be installed in


    the 5973N or 5973 inert MSD. There are two ways to identify the type of
    SmartCard which is installed in the MSD without taking the covers off.

    a- Power cycle the MSD, if the Local Control Panel displays "Smartcard 3+:
    100Mbit" then you have a SmartCard 3+
    b – Via the command line from instrument control type: scquery "config:info:sc?"
    If the reply is SC3P,40.0,32M,0K,64M -->> SmartCard3+ is installed
    If the reply is SC3B,40.0,32M,512K,4M -->> SmartCard3+ is NOT installed
    If you do not have a SmartCard3+ installed they you will need to order 05990-
    65430 – installation and familiarization is not included.

    4- Performance Electronics
    Press [Menu] until you see “[+ Version]”
    Press [Item] and the first prompt should be [Control Firmware]
    The firmware version should be 5.01.86 or higher, if the version is lower,
    download newer version from the instrument configuration program under the
    pull down menu item Help and select “Check Networking and Update MSD
    Firmware”.
    Press [Item] until you see [Log Amplifier]
    The version should be “LOG02”, if you see “LOG01” then you need to order
    G1088B

    G1088B - 5973N/inert Performance Upgrade:


    The 5973N/inert Performance Upgrade kit converts 5973N/inert MSD Standard
    Electronics to Performance Electronics – installation and familiarization is included with
    the kit.
