Sagdeev Potential

The document presents the derivation of the Sagdeev potential used to model plasma sheaths. It starts with an equation for the electric potential and integrates it using boundary conditions at the sheath edge. This results in an expression for the potential energy in terms of the electric potential and plasma properties. Setting this equal to the kinetic energy gives the Sagdeev potential, which defines the shape of the plasma sheath and can be used to determine the sheath thickness.

Multiplying this equation by  ' d = d and integrating from the edge of sheath into the sheath. With
boundary condition  0'  0 and  0 = 0 at the plasma sheath interference

From the equation (2) and (3), we get
 
V ( ) = − 1 + exp (−  ) +   i N i d −  Z d  d N d d
0 0

This gives sagdeep potential

The boundary conditions are𝜂 → 0 𝑎 → ∞, which measures the sheath thickness.
