SOFTWARE QUALITY is the degree of conformance to explicit or implicit
requirements and expectations.

Software profession are always pressured to identify and quantify factors such as
usability, testability, maintainability and reliability in software.
So in order to develop the high quality software, professional should have to follow engineering practices like:

1. Project Planning
2. Requirements Management
3. Development of formal specification
The Role of Process in Software Quality
Process, in the software engineering domain, is the set of methods, practices, standards, documents,
activities, policies, and procedures that software engineers use to develop and maintain a software system
and its associated artifacts, such as project and test plans, design documents, code, and manuals.

Software development process must evolve in a consistent and predictable manner using best technical and
managerial practices. Software should not be focused as whole and must support the sub process such as
design and testing.

Software testing is one of the phases of Software Development process, which includes:

1. Requirements analysis process


2. Product Specification process
3. Design process
4. Testing Process
Testing is related to two other processes called verification and validation.

1. Validation
2. Verification
Testing Definitions
Testing is described as a group of procedures carried out to evaluate some aspect of a piece of software.

Testing can be described as a process used for revealing defects in software, and for establishing that the
software has attained a specified degree of quality with respect to selected attributes.
Testing Activities
Testing covers both validation and verification activities. Testing includes the following:

● Technical reviews
● Test planning
● Test tracking
● Test case design
● Unit test
● Integration test
● System test
● Acceptance test, and
● Usability test
Testing can also be described as a dual-purpose process, as it reveals defects and evaluates quality attributes
of the software:

● Reliability
● Security
● Usability and
● Correctness
Why are Software Testing so Important?
1. Software testing will discover the defects and errors made during the development phase before it is
being delivered to the users.
2. Software testing will ensure the quality of the software product, thus gain a competitive market
advantage.
3. Software testing will keep away any hazards from users.
4. Software testing will ensure the customer’s reliability and his/her satisfaction in the software product.
5. Software testing will ensure an effective performance of software product.
6. Software testing will reduce the cost of fixing defects in the later stages of the software development.
7. Software testing will help businesses to get higher returns, enhance its reputation, and retain clients.
What is Software Testing?
Software testing is defined as an activity to check whether the actual results match the expected results and
to ensure that the software system is Defect free.

It involves execution of a software component or system component to evaluate one or more properties of
interest.
