It distinguishes between research methods, which are means of gathering data, and research techniques, which are specific types of methods applied to gather data. 2. The conceptual framework emerges from the methodological framework because the conceptual framework outlines the research idea and objectives, which informs the selection of an appropriate methodology. 3. Having an established conceptual framework is important before selecting a research methodology because it provides structure and guidance, helps researchers make informed decisions, and saves time versus having to rework frameworks.

End of Chapter Questions

1. Detail the distinction between research methods and research techniques.

Based on the review, research methods have some to do with the process of
gathering of data which are required in solving the problem of the study. According to
Singh, on his article or “Research Methodology”, research methods is elaborated as a
means to gather participant observation which involves some techniques like
“interactional reading”, possible used of tape recorders” and “photographic techniques.”
It is a helpful tool for the researchers to gather analytical informations needed for the
research. It is useful in the assessment of the correctness of the obtained findings.
On the other hand, research techniques is not that vaguer than research methods.
These are the specific types of methods which will be applied in the gathering of data and
informations. Observation, surveys, and interviews are some of the examples of the
research techniques. Research techniques discuss the procedures of handling the
systematic processes of those research methods.

2. Explain why the methodological framework emerges from the conceptual framework.

The conceptual framework is one of the integral parts of the research because it
discusses how the theories or concepts are being handled. Notwithstanding, the
conceptual framework is the umbrella of the underlying frameworks since it is constituted
from the research idea and the statement of the problem. It has the clear description of the
focus and the purpose of the study which allows the researchers to select the proper
framework in achieving the main objective of the study. The researchers have to draw the
conceptual framework first. In that way, it is easy to select the proper methodology to
pave out the way of solving the main objectives.

3. Explain the importance of having an established conceptual framework before selecting

research methodology.

As mentioned in the previous answer, if the researchers have properly drawn an

established conceptual framework, it will help them to select the research methodology
more easily and legibly. Less time and effort will be consumed instead of going back to
the main framework if mistakes are committed. Herewith, being resourceful helps the
researchers in selecting various ways how to deal appropriately with the research before
selecting appropriate methodology. Since research is a time-consuming field, having a
well-planned and structured conceptual framework helps a lot in saving time and energy.
It also enhances the critical thinking and decision-making of the researchers with
handling several data and informations.
4. Identify and elaborate at least eight research methodologies.

There are various types of research methodologies being used in gathering

significant data and informations. The examples follow; survey, it uses questionnaires in
gathering data either in oral, written, or online forms; and case study, which involves a
careful investigation of a person, group of people, a community or a unit that are deduced
throughout several variables, this enables researchers to simplify the complexities of any
problem or topic. The experimental design, which utilizes different variables when
conducting an experiment, in this type of method, researchers can manipulate the
independent variable to obtain more desired outcomes.
The ethnographic research, which observes different cultures from the data being
gathered, it helps researchers to define the specific changes that are happened during a
long period of time as the culture dynamically evolves from time to time; and action
research, which develops qualitative assessment of the subject’s actions or performances,
as a given example, researchers can investigate the correlation between the those students
working in their project with the help of their teachers and those who are not being
helped.
The grounded theory methodology, which assesses several data as substantial
sources of theoretical basis, however, this type of method does not include all the
literature reviews. This type of methodology helps researchers to identify and
contextualize deep-seated social trends and systems of any concerns.
Historical research is another type of method which criticizes both previous and
present occurrences. In this method, it is an interesting field of work which prompts
historical researchers to navigate the world with its unknown occurrences, likewise,
offers a friendly introduction in the world of publication. Lastly, discourse analysis,
which studies the effects of using language among individuals, both in written and verbal
forms. This type of method involves both writers and readers yet in fact, it is somehow
similar to document analysis in terms of the appropriation of valid and reliable fata and
informations.
These are only eight of the several research methodologies being used in the field
of research. These methodologies help several researchers to acquire substantial
informations to any chosen fields of endeavours.

5. Detail the difference between research methods and research methodology.

Research methods provide the specific tools or analytical means in the collection
and gathering of significant data and informations while research methodology discusses
the guidelines in the application of those particular tools. Those particular methods are
used in the definition, selection, processing, and interpretation of the data which helps
readers in the assessment of the relevance and significance of the study. It ensures all
procedures of how the data should be obtained and analysed. Research methodology
comes next after the literature review of the research. It is an important note that the basic
ideologies, methods of studies and techniques of data gathering should plays in harmony
for the coherence of the research.
6. List the research methodology you want to utilize in your study and describe why it is the
most suitable research methods for your research.

In the field of structural engineering, quantitative research is highly recommended

in the foundation of the project. One of the research methodologies that can be applied
prior to this type of field is the experimental design, likewise, engineering has something
to do with different variables being involved in carrying out an experiment or product
evaluations. For example, the researchers wanted to handle a research where a specific
type of substance [which is the dependent variable} is being added in the mixture in
building the structure of a house. Different tests would be applied to observe the effect of
the substance in the durability, texture, hardness, and resistance of the mixture.
Otherwise, when the researchers choose to deal with adversity quotient of several
engineers working in a specific region, the researchers can utilize attitude research to
assess their behaviour response when committing hardship in planning and building
several blueprints. Action research can also be applied when assessing their performance
within a specific period of time, however, when we are focusing on the feedback of
consumers with the houses being built by several engineers, the researchers can conduct a
survey research to collect informations about this. There are several research
methodologies that can be utilized in this field depending on the objectives of the
researchers.

7. Explain the parts of methodological framework.

In drawing a methodological framework, the researchers should be aware of its

integral parts. The integral parts of methodological framework follow; introduction, the
part where research methodology is being discussed including the sampling method and
the collection of data; research methodology, includes why the specific methodology is
being chosen for the study; population of the study, briefly explains the respondents or
experimental samples which are involved in the study; sample, explains the size and basis
of the chosen population; sampling method, details the process and elements how the
samples are being determined without showing statistical data; data gathering methods,
explains the data which are subjected for analysis and interpretations, issues of validity
and reliability, discusses acceptable methods being established; triangulation, gathers
different approaches for the consistency of the data and results; and lastly, ethics, which
one of the most important part, which discusses the ethical issues and standards in the
design if the research project should be executed.

8. Define the similarities and differences between discourse analysis and document analysis.

Discourse analysis has something to do with the study of the languages being used by
individuals in both verbal and written form. This type of analysis involves writers and
readers. It mostly focuses on the false informations being proliferated in different
sources. On the other hand, document analysis solely focuses on the study of the reality
of the present data and informations.
9. Explain the feminist method in relation to social research.

The feminist method highlights the female’s point of view in different

perspectives which usually deals with study biases, social change, biological diversity,
and researcher’s standpoint. Nevertheless, feminist method is highly related to a social
form of research in line with the social issues being resolved. Social research has a high
emphasis on person, group, community, or any unit of society prior to their ideas and
viewpoints about several subject matters.

10. Explain the term triangulation.

Triangulation is the usage of at least two different approaches in assessing

research questions. It is better to review more than one perspective in a particular study to
choose which relevant and significant data can be added in the existing research. The
gathered data will undergo proper analysis and comprehension, though consumes more
time, it redefines the foundation of the research supported by valid and substantial claims
and informations.
