    DELTA4000, FW Upgrade procedure


    Introduction
    The Delta4000 software suite:
    • Instrument software (Firmware)
    • PC software: Delta Control Software, including Delta API
    • PC software: Windows based PowerDB
    • Maintenance Software: MIX for upgrades and calibration called
    The Instrument software can be upgraded using a PC/Laptop communicating with the Delta 4000
    unit via USB communication (not Ethernet) and the MIX software. This document will guide you
    through the steps on how to upgrade your DELTA4000 Instrument Software
    This procedure requires that you have MIX version 1.0.317 or greater. For more information about
    downloading and installing MIX, please contact a Megger representative.

    Preparing your DELTA unit for FW Upgrade


    Depending on what is included in the bin-file some preparation may be required. It is very important
    that you have the correct units connected when you perform the FW upgrade.

    • Most of the bin-files include FW for the HVU as well as the Control Unit. This means that
    you need to connect the HVU unit to the Control Unit before you continue with the FW
    Upgrade. If you are unsure what type of bin-file you have this is probable how you should
    connect.
    • If you know that the bin file is intended for the DELTA calibration box. Please connect the
    Calibration box to your DELTA unit before you continue with the FW Upgrade.

    Upgrading the FW using “.bin” file


    • Download and save the upgrade .bin file on your hard drive or USB memory where you
    can locate it easily.
    • Connect the USB cable to the DELTA unit and your computer.
    • Wait for the drivers to be installed successfully. Progress of the installation usually appears
    in the lower right corner of the screen.
    • Start the MIX software. It will automatically start looking for the DELTA unit.

    • Wait for MIX to detect the DELTA unit (this may take a while depending on how many
    COM/RS232 ports you have on your computer)

    • Some of the buttons are inactive until an instrument is connected.

    • When the DELTA unit has been detected. Click on the Maintenance tab

    • Click on the Update firmware button.

    • Follow the instructions carefully! When asked for it, locate the .bin file that you saved in
    step 1 above.
    NOTE: Restart the DELTA unit ONLY when prompted by the software!
    • If you encounter any problems during the upgrade make sure you have made the correct
    unit connections (described in the section above) or contact a Megger representative.

    NOTE:
    Restarting the DELTA unit at any time during the upgrade process when not asked to restart
    may result in a corrupted system and a unit that cannot be used.
    If this happens, you will have to send it back to the factory for repair.
