1.0 Introduction
The foundations are suitable for most soils excluding: Loose sand, Very soft clays and silts, Made ground or
fill, Peat and organic soils and shrinkable clay. The foundations shall comprise individual pad footings tied
by a reinforced concrete slab. Horizontal loads are resisted by the slab. Vertical loads are catered for by the
pads.

For low shrinkage soils, to take into account the effect of remote trees, the foundations should be to a
minimum depth of 750mm minus the reduction factor shown on the chart bellow. However the foundations
should not be shallower than 450mm due to frost heave.

1 Introduction
A folding door is to be included on the front gable of this building. This shall be
supported by means of a head runner spanning between the two columns on the end
frame, with vertical studs above and struts spanning between the header beam and the
rafters on the second portal.

2 Main Frame
As the gable frame under consideration consists of back to back sections, where the
typical frames already analysed are single sections, & it only carries ½ the wind &
imposed loads of a typical frame, by inspection it is concluded that the weight of the
folding door does not cause any strength issues to this frame. However, for smooth
operation of the door, deflection must be limited. A deflection of <10mm shall be taken
as acceptable under normal use.

Door Weight = 32Kg/m2


Door Height = 3m
Live Load = 0.942kN/m

Max deflection = 5.6mm < Deflectionadm = 10mm O.K.
