TP11 345b PDF

This technical publication provides guidance on addressing error codes E542-8002, E500-0001, E5F1-8000, and jam code 1320 that may occur in certain Canon finishing devices. The errors can be caused by inadequate insulation on the connecting pins of a path sensor PCB, allowing a short circuit. For devices in production, the insulation thickness was increased. For devices in the field, replacing the path sensor with an updated photo sensor assembly is recommended. Proper handling of the sensor to avoid puncturing the insulation is also described.

DETAILS:
Due to inadequate insulation, it is possible for the connecting pins of the Path Sensor PCB [1] (FM2-4254-
000) to make contact with the Path Guide [2], creating a short in the sensor’s circuit. Depending on which
pin makes contact to the Path Guide, the following may occur:
• Pin1 - GND: Nothing
• Pin2 - Sensor Signal: Jam Code 1320 (Power-On Jam)
• Pin3 - Sensor Light Volume Control: Jam Code 1320 (Power-On Jam)
• Pin4 - 5V: E542-8002 (Error in the Lower Tray Area)

SERVICING PROCEDURE:
Factory:
For those devices still in production, the thickness of the protective sheet between the Path Sensor PCB and
Path Guide has been increased from 100um to 200um.

Field:
If the Error Code E542-8002 or Jam Code 1320 occurs, replace the Path Sensor with the new Photo Sensor
Assembly (FM2-4254-010).

Do not handle the Sensor as indicated in the subsequent image. If the Sensor is handled as shown, the
pressure from your fingers can cause the sharp components on the Sensor PCB to puncture the Protective
Sheet. This can result in the Sensor shorting to ground.
