5 Terrain and Climatic Conditions, ULSB Mk III must be capable of operating in all types of terrains and
climatic conditions existing in the country,
6 Transportability. The equipment should be placed in a suitable case so that it can be transported over
long distances by air, sea and Para dropped and short distances in harness.
7 Environmental Specifications. The ULSB MK III will meet all environmental specifications as per L2B
table of the JSS 55555 less temperature range.
(a) Operating Temperatue. : - 20° to +45°C.
(b) Humidity : Not less than 95% at + 40°C + 2°C
8 Camouflage. ULSB MkIII must be coloured in the camouflage colours of the army to ensure proper
camouflage and concealment.
9 Earthing. The exchange will be able to work on field type of earthing. Earthing spike alongwith other
accessories will be provided to enable earthing of the equipment.
10 Ruggedisation. The equipment will be suitably customised for the tactical environment by ensuring the
following:-
(a) Storage device must be suitably ruggedised.
(b) Electrical connectors will be leak proof.
(c) Equipment must sustain cross-country movers. The switch may be carried in vehicle / Man pack / Animal
transport over rough terrain.
(d) All connectors and MDF will be sufficiently hardened so as to sustain rough handling under field
conditions.
(e) Efficient thermal management.
(f) Function in poor light conditions/darkness.
(g) The modules and cards of the exchange should be secured to the slots so that there is no dislocation of
the cards during move/transportation.

PART III - OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS
11 The ULSB Mk III will incorporate the following Features:-
(a) Modular design. Must be totally modular in design. Modules will be stackable to meet any expansion
reqirements.
(b) Non Blocking. The switch should be a totally non-blocking, even when the switch is loaded to its
maximum capacity.
(c) Switching. Must be capable of carrying out local as well as transit switching of all trunk circuits.
(d) Networking. Must provide support for networking on features of the Q-SIG protocol over the network.
(e) It shall be possible to use the exchange as a stand alone exchange or it should be possible to network
these exchanges.
(f) Power Management. Must be capable of working on AC mains with a input range of 150 V to 300 V AC as
well as DC (12/24/48 V, 75 AH ) with automatic changeover. The DC connectivity to the switch shall be on
float charge.
(g) BITE. Must have a capability of conducting card level system Diagnostics through MMI (Power on Self
Test, On-Line and Off-Line Diagnostics).
(h) Universal Slots, All insertion slots for subscriber ports should be universal type.
(j) Optical Interface . Direct optical fibre termination will be provided on ULSB Mk-III for E1 terminations. It
should support a distance of at least 20 km on monomode OFC.
(k) Data Card. ULSB Mk-111 will provide a data card with following facilities:-
(i) The data card should have four ports with Ethernet terminations.
(ii) It should be possible to bifurcate each E1 stream coming into ULSB Mk-III into two blocks of (n and 30-
n)x64 kbps. One block would cater for n voice channels of 64 kbps while (30-n)x64 kbps would be mapped
to one of the four ports of data card.
14 Loop Resistance. The subscriber cards must support a loop resistance of at least 1800 Ohms.
Network Management
15 Network management port will be provided for local and remote management of the exchange. Network
Management terminal / MMI based on a ruggedised note book computer will be provided. The ruggedised
note book computer should work in Indian field conditions and should comply to MIL STD 810F, IP54 and
MIL STD 461D. It will facilitate fault detection, trouble shooting, configuration and provisioning etc. User
friendly GUI will be provided.Ruggedised Notebook should be offered with following configuration.
(b) The repair philosophy envisages field afld Base level repairs by EME.
22 Literature. The following publications conforming to JSS 0251-01 will be made available:
(a) User Hand Book.
(b) Technical manual along with circuit diagram.
(c) Complete Equipment Schedule.
(d) List of components.
(e) Detailed drawing with all information for cataloguing and documentation.
(f) Complete station list.
(g) Dos and Don'ts for the operator.
(h) CBT(Computer Based Training) package for training.
USER PROFILE

Personnel of all Arms and Services will man the ULSB Mk III
24 Adjustments/Calibration. Adjustments/Calibrations of any type should not be required.

1 Dual microprocessor controlled TDM exchange.
2 Provides automatic switching for subscribers, Grid Trunks and Universal Junction.
Capacity
3 Can be configured to initial capacity of 40 subscriber, 6 Grid trunks and 6 Universal junctions. This can be
expanded in similar steps upto 160 subscribers, 24 Grid Trunks and 24 Universal Junction.
