—Shun Unrepentant Wrongdoers

[PLEASE NOTE: This talk includes a video]

JEHOVAH’S JUDGMENTS ARE BENEFICIAL (4 min.)

Jehovah lovingly gave to Moses the Law, which protected God’s people
from corrupting influences, both physical and spiritual
Some of the laws tested the Israelites’ loyalty (De 13:1-11)
Likewise, since the first century, Jehovah has commanded that we “stop
keeping company” with unrepentant wrongdoers [Read 1 Corinthians
5:11-13]
Some in Satan’s permissive world may view disfellowshipping as
extreme; however, it is beneficial (w15 4/15 29-31)
It helps keep Jehovah’s organization morally clean and his name
free from reproach
It protects us from bad associations
Associations include messages that apostates and others have
used to spread wrong ideas (2Jo 10, 11)
Disfellowshipping the sinner may help him to return to Jehovah
Loyal Christians would not associate with “anyone called a brother”
who is practicing serious sin
This is true even if no congregation action has been taken, as may be
the case with an inactive one (w85 7/15 19 814)
This can be a real trial when a family member is involved
We must not allow strong family ties to lead us to compromise loyalty
to Jehovah and his organization (w13 1/15 15-16 816-20)
In the dramatization that follows, note how loyalty results in a
blessing

JEHOVAH KNOWS THE PAIN OF LOSING A FAMILY MEMBER (2 min.)

Jehovah’s reaction to Israel’s rebellion gives us insight into how
he may have felt when some of his spirit sons joined the Devil in
rebellion (Ps 78:40, 41; w07 1/15 17-18)
Yet, Jehovah is not controlled by sentimentality
He severely disciplined the Israelites (Ps 78:60-62)
He took action against the wicked spirits to protect the rest of
his spiritual family (Jude 6; Re 12:7-9)

RESPECT JEHOVAH’S ARRANGEMENT FOR DISCIPLINE IN YOUR LIFE (1 min.)

Disfellowshipping can be painful discipline, but it yields the fruit
of righteousness to those trained by it [Read Hebrews 12:11] (w12
4/15 12 816)
Let us be resolved not to undermine the effectiveness of Jehovah’s
discipline
But what should we do when someone repents and changes course?
Brother will now consider the final part of this symposium,
“Loyally Uphold Jehovah’s Judgments—Be Forgiving”
