a. First, watch the video and write sentence with simple present tense
(use the “Chemical engineering” vocabulary).

1. Chemical engineers have knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, and

mathematics to design chemical processes.
2. Chemical engineering has an application in the environment that it helps
reduce the volume of pollutants entering the air, waterways and soil.
3. Chemicals engineers are designing processes to transport, transform and
produce materials chemical.
4. The scale up reaction is important and is a main difference chemical
engineers and chemist.
5. The calculus classes in chemical engineering are similar to the calculus
classes of other engineering.
6. Chemical engineering offers large-scale production that is also
environmentally friendly, as well as discovering ways to produce materials
safely and efficiently.
7. Chemical engineers make chemicals like detergents, soaps, and cosmetics.
So they also make microchips and other computer parts.
8. Chemical engineers design facilities using enzymes and microorganisms to
create new pharmaceutical companies.
9. A chemical engineer can work in petroleum engineering at an oil refinery that
converts crude oil from the ground into diesel gasoline, fuel, heating fuel, etc.
10. Chemical engineer can convert chemical energy from a fuel into electrical
energy these can be seen in cars, planes, boats and more.
b. Defina qué es la “Chemical engineering”

Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering

responsible for the design, process control and
transformation of raw materials, producing them on a
large scale, with the aim of optimizing resources with
the use of technology.

c. Uso de la ““Chemical engineering”.

-Research and development of products and

processes.
-Chemical engineering designs chemical
processes for large-scale manufacturing and
focuses on the design of new materials and
technologies.
d. Write a glossary.
● CHEMICAL PROCESS: it is a set of chemical or physical operations
aimed at transforming initial substances into different final products.
● BIOTECHNOLOGY: Technology applied to biological processes.
● ENZYMES: They are organic molecules that act as catalysts for chemical
reactions, that is, they accelerate the reaction rate.
● MICROORGANISMS: They are organisms endowed with individuality
that have an elemental biological organization.
● CATALYTIC CONVERTER (CATALYST): It is a component of the
internal combustion engine that serves to control and reduce the harmful
gases expelled by the engine.
● CHEMICAL REACTOR: It is a team inside which a chemical reaction
takes place, designed to maximize the conversion and selectivity of that
reaction with the least possible cost.
● SEMICONDUCTOR: It is an element that behaves as a conductor or as
an insulator depending on various factors
● MOLARITY: It is the concentration of a solution expressed in the number
of moles dissolved per liter of solution.
● BEAKERS: It is a cylindrical container that is used to store, mix and heat
liquids in laboratories.
● CHEMICAL PROCESSES: Is a set of chemical and / or physical
operations aimed at transforming initial substances into different final
products.
● FLOW SENSOR: It is a device that, installed in line with a pipe, allows to
determine when a liquid or gas is circulating. These are of the on / off
type; they determine when a fluid is circulating or not, but they do not
measure the flow.
● FUEL: It is any material capable of releasing energy and heat when it is
violently oxidized.
● COOLING JACKET: The cooling jackets allow part of the pumped liquid
or the external liquid to circulate through the motor stator housing. This
absorbs excess heat through forced convection, ensuring sufficient
cooling of the pump.
● TEST TUBE: The test tube is part of the glassware from a chemistry lab.
It consists of a small cylindrical glass tube with one end open and the
other closed and rounded, which is used in laboratories to hold small
liquid or solid samples, although they may have other phases, such as
carrying out small-scale chemical reactions. They are kept in a laboratory
instrument called a rack.
● PRESSURE VALVES: They provide constant pressure in a system that
operates at a lower pressure than that supplied by production equipment.
● CHEMICAL REACTOR: A chemical reactor is equipment within which a
chemical reaction takes place, designed to maximize the conversion and
selectivity of that reaction at the lowest possible cost.
● BIOREACTOR: A chemical reactor is equipment inside which a chemical
reaction takes place that is catalyzed by a purified enzyme or by the
body that contains it.
