List of test: CPC100/CMC356

CT Test:

1. Current Transformer Testing: CT ratio (with burden) up to 2000A

(i) To check the accuracy limiting factor
(ii) To find out that the CT has the right ratio corresponding on its rated current in primary and
secondary
2. CT burden up to 6 AAC | secondary
(i) The burden of a CT is the total impedance in ohms on the secondary output terminals
(ii) To check that all the connections are tight
(iii) No open circuit in the secondary
3. CT excitation curve (knee point) up to 2 kVAC
(i) To confirm the magnetization characteristics of CT with nameplate specification.
(ii) The greater the better for protection class as lower is better for metering class.
4. Insulation resistance test
(i) To check the condition of the insulation between high to low, high to ground & low to
ground
5. CT winding resistance test up to 6 ADC
(i) Winding resistance measurement allows to calculate the accuracy limiting factor (ALF) for
protection circuits and the instrument security factor (FS) for metering circuits
6. Power/dissipation factor test up to 12kV/15kV, 300mA
(i) Bushings and the overall insulation of CT can be investigated by measuring the capacitance
and dissipation factor, also known as the tangent delta, or power factor.
(ii) The lower the factor, the better is the insulation quality.

VT Test:

7. VT ratio up to 2kVAC | polarity & burden

(i) To check the VT accuracy
(ii) To find out that the VT has the right ratio corresponding on its rated voltage in primary and
secondary
8. VT burden up to 130 VAC | secondary
(i) To check the total secondary circuit impedance in terms of ohm.
(ii) To check whether all the secondary connection is okay or not.
9. Insulation resistance test
(ii) To check the insulation between high to low, high to ground & low to ground.
(iii) The insulation should be high.
10. Power/dissipation factor test up to 12kV/15kV, 300mA
(i) Bushing and the overall insulation of CT can be investigated by measuring the capacitance
and dissipation factor, also known as the tangent delta, or power factor.
(ii) Tandelta value should be lower.

Power Transformer Testing:

11. DC winding resistance up to 100 ADC
(i) To check the 𝐼 2 𝑅 loss in transformer
(ii) To check whether the transformer has shorted turns, loose connections, or deteriorating
contacts in tap changers
12. Transformer turns ratio (TTR) per tap up to 2kVAC | including polarity & excitation current |
(i) To check the ratio error which results in voltage & current error.
(ii) To check the polarity of the transformer.
(iii) It aslo gives the excitation current measurement.
(iv) It is useful in determining whether a transformer has any shorted turns or improper
connections and, in acceptance testing, verifying nameplate information.
13. Leakage reactance / short circuit impedance up to 6 AAC
(i) To determine how much flux is wasted
(ii) Lower value is acceptable.
14. Transformer, bushing: power/dissipation factor + insulation capacitance up to 12kV/15kV, 300 mA
| frequency from 15 Hz to 400 Hz|
(i) To check the insulation & bushing health condition.
(ii) Lower the value, healthier the insulation of the transformer winding & bushing.
15. Frequency response to stray losses (FRSL)
(i) This test is able to detect the winding deformation.
16. Insulation resistance test

Switchgear:

17. Circuit breaker Tripping test with current injection

(i) This test is necessary to check the tripping current of the CB with the primary current
injection.
18. Insulation resistance test
19. Contact resistance of 33kV & 11kV circuit breaker

(i) To measure the watt loss in the contact due the respective contact resistance.

(ii) To check whether the relay is following the curve or not.
26. Testing of the entire protection chain by primary fault current injection & lice CB tripping
