The Cykey Multimouse.: Cykey Chording Technology Cyfist With Thumb-Trackball

The CyKey MultiMouse is a single input device that serves as both a mouse and keyboard using Cykey chording technology. It resembles a wider computer mouse with additional buttons on the sides and a trackball in the center for cursor movement. The trackball can also function as a scroll wheel. The device uses different button combinations and modes to perform mouse functions like clicking, scrolling, and cursor movement as well as keyboard shortcuts. This allows it to replace both a mouse and keyboard for portable use without a surface to operate a regular mouse.

The CyKey MultiMouse.

The Cykey MultiMouse is a proposal to use Cykey chording technology to create a single computer input device that serves as both mouse
and keyboard. My personal inclination is now towards a hand-held peripheral such as a Cyfist with thumb-trackball.
As can be seen from the illustration, the device resembles a
computer mouse approximately 50% wider than usual. The
increased width can be exploited to create better support for the
hand and wrist. The device has two rectangular side-buttons on each
side, five oval buttons, an amber button and a “mouse” button. The
device can be set for either left or right-handed operation. Right-
handed operation will be assumed for the rest of this description.
The lowest side-button on the left corresponds to the
Thumb button on a standard CyKey keypad. The button above is
the Command/ Caps button and the leftmost oval button is the
Numbers key. The other oval buttons correspond to buttons 1 to 4.
The right-side side buttons can be programmed to function as
“repeat” and “delete”. LED lights indicate when conditions such as
Capslock. Num-shift or Extra-shift are active.
The mouse button is between buttons 2 and 3. This will
probably be a friendly colour such as green or blue on the final
version. This is an LED toggle switch for switching between keypad
and mouse modes. It can be easily operated by the second or third
fingers of a right-handed user or the first and second of a left-
hander.
The amber button is in fact not a button but a trackball
control for fine movement of the cursor. By typing V when in
mouse mode (buttons 1+4) it can be set to behave as a scroll wheel
and only move the cursor vertically. This setting is unlocked by
typing V again or typing U (button 4).

The cursor can be moved by either using the trackball or by selecting mouse mode:
Moving the entire control as a mouse.
The cursor can be moved by switching to mouse mode and moving the whole device.
Type X (T234) in mouse mode and mouse movement is translated only as horizontal cursor movement (useful for some games).
Type Y (T23) in mouse mode and mouse movement only produces vertical cursor movement.
Reset to normal X & Y operation by typing Z (T14) or by retyping X or Y when in mouse mode.
By the Trackball.
By typing V (1+4) when in mouse mode the trackball can be set to behave as a scroll wheel and will only move the cursor vertically. This
setting is unlocked by typing V again or typing U (4).
The option of having a trackball on the mouse will prove useful when the input pad is used with a laptop in situations when there is not a
surface to operate a conventional mouse on.
Using button combinations when in Mouse Mode.
When in mouse mode typing certain button combinations will move the cursor or cause a page to scroll. Pressing these button combinations
in mouse mode may produce different effects to when they are used in keyboard mode.
Buttons 1 & 2 “A” moves cursor up/scrolls up.
Buttons 2 & 3 “N” moves cursor down/ scrolls down.
Buttons T & 1 “I” Moves cursor left.
Buttons 3 & 4 “G” Moves cursor right.
Button 1 “E” serves as Left Click while in mouse mode –capable of double or triple clicks.
Button 2 “O” serves as Middle Click. “Open in New Tab” “Close Tab” Middle click also switches to page scroll mode, allowing the page to
be scrolled by mouse movement.
Button 3 “S” serves as Right Click while in mouse mode.
Button T & 2 “C” acts as Shift-Click mode.
Button T Works as spacebar in mouse mode too. This will be useful for navigating games and ebooks.

E-Shift “C” (E-Shift, T2) : Copy selection.

E-Shift “P” (E-Shift, T1234) : Paste Selection
E-Shift “X” (E-Shift, T234) : Cut Selection.
E-Shift “Z” (E-Shift, T24) : Undo last action.
E-Shift “Y” (E-Shift, T23) : Redo undo.
E-Shift “S” or “L” (E-Shift, T3 or T14) –Zoom in or Out . This can also done with Command-Trackball.
E-Shift, “B” : Toggles Bold of selection. (equivalent Ctrl+B)
E-Shift, “I” : Toggles Italic of selection. (equivalent Ctrl +I)
E-Shift, “U” : Toggles Underline of selection. (equivalent Ctrl +U)
Command keys work the same in mouse mode as in Keyboard mode. Typing apostrophe, Z, K and F while also depressing the
Command key while in mouse mode will act like the arrow buttons of a keyboard. You can also toggle Insert, Tab, Del, Esc, Page Up/
Down, Home, End etc.
